The Danny Kramer Dance Band has been chosen as the Best

prestigious Canadian Wedding Industry Awards. His band was one of
only four finalists from across the country for the title of Best
Entertainment Act in Canada. The judges were made up of some of the
top industry leaders from across North America.
With almost 900 songs in their repertoire they are able to entertain
any audience with the hits of the 1940’s, to Motown, Swing, Disco,
80’s, Rock, Pop, right up to the current hits of today from artists like
Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, American Authors, Katy Perry, and
many more.
The Danny Kramer Dance Band will absolutely pack your dance
floor!
Here is a testimonial from a wonderful Bride:
“The Danny Kramer Band was such an important part of our wedding. They helped set the tone of the evening right from the start of
the ceremony to the very last song. They played beautiful music leading up to the ceremony, during cocktail hour and then throughout the
evening. We had some strange requests, like learning an instrumental
version of Under Pressure for the processional and for the bride to sing
a surprise song for the groom after the speeches. Danny was so
accommodating and an absolute pleasure to work with, not to mention super talented! In order to practice the surprise song, he let me
come to an open mic night that he participates in so
I could try it with the band before singing in front of
a couple hundred people on the wedding night. He
then encouraged the groom to rap a song he did for
a junior high talent show! All the guests had such a
great time dancing the night away and loved all the
personalized touches that Danny helped bring to
life. I’ve never seen so many people stay until the
very last song at a wedding and beg for more!”

Planning a
Fall Wedding
Fall is a gorgeous time of year to tie the
knot. Here are some tips for planning an
affordable fall wedding.
The Venue
Traditional wedding venues fill up fast,
so book early. While spring and summer
are popular times of year to get married,
fall wedding are on the rise. For the best
deals, book your wedding later in the fall
season. October and November rates are
usually lower than September.
Consider having an outdoor ceremony in
a beautiful setting. The changing leaves
make a gorgeous backdrop for any ceremony, so choose a place where guests can
take in the views. Since nature is doing the
decorating, you’ll spend less on flowers
and accessories for the ceremony. Outdoor
venues tend to cost a lot less than traditional venues, and in many public spaces,
all you’ll need to do is get a permit to use
the area. Consider regional parks or lakes,
which are known for their changing leaves
and breathtaking views.
The Food
Caterers are usually the busiest during
summer where people are throwing parties
and outdoor events, and the winter holidays, when companies are hosting large
parties. Take a advantage of the fall season
to get a great rate for your catering. Plan a
menu that uses seasonal ingredients that
are available during the fall months. Think
of harvest vegetables like pumpkin, butternut squash, root vegetables. Discuss possible ideas with your caterer and they will be
sure to plan a fall menu that fits your taste
buds and your budget.
Another tip is to have one caterer make
the food for the rehearsal and the reception, and also make the wedding cake. You
can usually get a better deal since you’re
grouping your food costs under one bill.
The Flowers
Ask your florist to use in-season flowers
that are local to your area. You’ll save
money on your flowers because these
flowers are widely available and cost less
when they are in peak season. Here are
some flowers that are available for fall:
Dahlias come in a wide range of colors
from warm yellow to hot red. They make a
colorful addition to wedding centerpieces
and bouquets.
Hydrangeas are still available during fall
and come in colors ranging from pink to
blue. Hydrangeas can also be painted
using florist’s paint to match any color you
can dream of.
Chrysanthemums peak season is in the
fall. Commonly known as ‘mums’ these
flowers come in a wide range of sizes and
colors. They make a great “filler” flower.
Colors & Textures
With so many bright colors occurring in
nature this time of year, it makes sense to
incorporate traditional “Fall” colors into
your wedding. The color pallets like
chocolate-brown, with teal, navy, lime-yellows, golds, coral reds, and bright orange
are popular. Pull your inspiration from
nature and get creative with your decorations.

Your Spring Wedding
The Wedding Veil
The veil dates
back
to
the
ancient Greeks
and
Romans.
They were wary
of evil spirits and
demons,
and
bright
colors
were believed to
scare off these
unwanted spirits.
Occasionally, a Roman bride was completely
covered in red veils to protect her from evil
spirits. Others believe wearing the veil stems
from the time of arranged marriages. The
father of the bride may have feared the groom
would not want to marry his daughter if he
found her unpleasant to look upon, so the
bride would be heavily veiled and she would
not be revealed to the groom until after the
ceremony.
Many believe the tradition of the ‘unveiling’
stems from Biblical story of Jacob and his two
wives. Jacob’s father-in-law, Laban, tricked
him into marrying Leah instead of his true
love, Rachel. Leah was heavily veiled and
Jacob did not realize he had married the
wrong woman until after the ceremony. Thus
the Jewish tradition of Bedeken was born,
where the groom lowers the veil before the
ceremony and raises it prior to the kiss.
The veil became popular in England during
the 1800’s and signified modesty and chastity.
In the Christian tradition, the veil is lowered
by the father before the processional and is
raised by the groom prior to the kiss.
In some Eastern ceremonies, the bride is
veiled throughout the entire ceremony and is
not unveiled until after it is over.
The wedding veil has evolved over the centuries, and has signified youth, virginity and
modesty. Roman brides were married in
swathes of brilliant red or yellow, while Viking
queens wore metal skullcaps. Many Japanese
brides still wear the traditional tsuno-kakushi,
a white hood that supposedly hides the horns
of jealousy. Veils made of lace were made
popular in the United States by Nelly Curtis,
the adopted daughter of George Washington.
Legend has it that Major Lawrence Lewis, her
father’s aid, saw Nelly standing behind a filmy
lace curtain and he was so taken by her beauty that he asked for her hand in marriage. She
then wore a lace veil on her wedding day in
order to preserve the effect for her groom.

Spring is one of the most beautiful
times to have your wedding.
Flowers are in bloom, temperatures
are mild, and the world seems to be
reawakening after the winter season.
Here are four easy tips for ways to
save money on your spring wedding.
Tip #1: Use Nature as Your Backdrop
– Plan a Garden Wedding
Finding an affordable venue is an
easy way to cut your spring wedding
expenses.
Consider holding your ceremony
and reception in a garden setting to
take advantage of the warmer spring
weather and the beautiful blossoms
that appear on plants and trees.
Many towns, universities, and
parks have beautiful outdoor spaces that can be reserved for a small fee or sometimes
for free. Consider outdoor wedding locations that offer a pavilion, gazebo, or clubhouse, so you can provide shade on a hot day, and shelter in case of rain.
By holding a garden wedding you can also save money on decorations like flower
arrangements, because your garden backdrop will provide plenty of vibrant color
and visual interest.
Tip #2: Have a Casual Rehearsal Dinner at home
If you’re open to a more casual rehearsal dinner, you may consider holding the
event in your home or even in the backyard.
A simple, low-key get together is a great way to keep costs down. Your home can
provide a more intimate setting for the dinner, giving you a chance to spend more
time with your guests than if you held the event in a ball room or restaurant. Even if
you have the dinner catered you’ll still save a bundle on the venue costs.

Wedding Seating Chart
Do I need a Seating Chart?
If you have a small, informal reception, you
may not feel you need a plan. However for
larger numbers, or a sit down meal, both you
and your guests may benefit from a seating
chart.
Guests are saved from a mad panic of trying
to find a seat on a table with their friends/
family and you can place people where
they’ll be happiest!
The wedding meal may last for 2-3 hours
and is a significant part of the day. If your
guests are sitting with people they get along
with, it will make a big difference to their
overall enjoyment of the day.
There are a number of options for the seating plan:
No plan at all – best for stand up buffets or
small and informal events.
Assign guests to tables – you allocate guests
to tables but the choice of seat is theirs.
Assign guests to seats – you specify the seats
at which each guest will sit.
If you remember only one thing… Do what you think would make
you and your guests most comfortable.
The Head Table Dilemma
While the traditional head
table (Bride and Groom seated
at a long table flanked by the
wedding party) is still favored by
most, alternatives are often
being used.
The traditional layout is as follows:
Groomsman - Bridesmaid Best Man - Bride – Groom –
Maid of Honor – Groomsman Bridesmaid.
There are alternative arrangements – such as including parents/godparents or clergy on the
table.
Or you might want to include
partners of the bridal party.
Alternatively, you may want to
avoid the top table altogether
and have a romantic table for
two.
Top Tips for Other Tables
Seating tables with just one family group will let them relax, but
won’t do much to encourage mingling. However, a table where no
one knows anyone else might be a bit daunting for most people!
Try and arrange a mix on each table – so everyone knows a few people. By thinking about guests’ ages and interests you can make sure
that each table is likely to get on and have fun!
Where to sit singles can also create a dilemma. On one hand you
might want to try out a little matchmaking, but on the other, this could
be rather uncomfortable and awkward for your guests (it might be very
obvious too!).
Certainly avoid a ‘singles’ table but generally do whatever you feel
is best for your guests.
If you are using round tables, the general etiquette is to seat males
and females alternately around the table. If you are using long tables,
seat couples opposite one another and then alternate male/females
along the table.
The tables closest to the Bride and Groom should be reserved for the
closest friends and family.
Give each table a name or number. Table names could be themed for example people, objects or places that are relevant to you as a
couple. You should create a name card for each table so that guests
can easily find their table.
If you are assigning guests to specific seats you should create name
place cards.
These could also show menu choices (if you are offering them) or
indicate vegetarians.
The waiting staff will really appreciate this and it will allow them to
give a more seamless service. You should also give a paper copy of
your plan to the venue so that they can see where people are seated.
Creating the Chart
Arranging the chart can take a long time and might involve numerous revisions. Many people cut up pieces of paper for each guest and
table and use these
to try out different
layouts.

Summer Wedding Trends
Money is not the be-all end-all when planning a great wedding. While wedding budgets may
be tight, couples are getting more and more creative with their wedding plans and aren’t afraid
to branch out and be different. Here are a few hot summer wedding trends that are sure to be
seen in the summer wedding season.
Laid Back Atmosphere
Many couples are opting for a laid back summer wedding instead of an all out bash. Summer
is a great time to kick back and relax, so why not bring that vibe into your wedding plans.
Maybe serve mai tais or another tropical drink to help your guests get into the spirit of things.
You may also decide to throw the formal wear out the window in favor of a more casual look,
like flip flops instead of stilettos! Have fun with your laid back wedding and don’t take things
too seriously. This is about making things fun, not perfect.
Casual Wedding Dresses
Many brides are toning down their wedding look for summer and are opting for a simple
dress by one of their favorite designers rather than a formal gown that might set them back
thousands of dollars. Spending less on the dress allows brides to save a large chunk of the budget and spend it elsewhere, such as on food or entertainment.
Homemade Wedding Favors
Wedding favors can get expensive, especially if you have a lot of guests. But it’s important to
show your guests that you appreciate them being there for your big day. Homemade wedding
favors are definitely becoming more common.
These homemade favors add a special personal touch to the occasion. From handmade stationary sets to homemade truffles, couples are finding creative ways to say “thanks!”
Un-Matched Bridesmaid Dresses
For years, brides have been selecting a dress designer and a color swatch, then letting their
bridesmaids choose from similar styles that work with different body types. But for summer,
brides are taking that idea even further.
Now brides are simply choosing a color and letting their bridesmaids find a dress from anywhere they like.
While the colors won’t match exactly, they’ll all be of the same color family, which can create a cool effect. This takes a bit of pressure off the bride, and allows the bridesmaids to find
a dress they like, and one that they might actually wear again.
Just be sure to specify how formal the dress should be and give the bridesmaids a color range
to use for comparison.
Weddings at Home
Getting married at home is a way that couples are making their wedding more intimate and
personal. Home weddings can be understated, casual, and down to earth. While this is not
ideal for all couples, it works well for a couple that wants a smaller wedding with close friends
and family. Summer is the perfect time for a backyard wedding. Just make sure your house/yard
can accommodate the number of people you expect.
Cup Your Cake, and Eat it Too!
Cupcakes are becoming increasingly popular at weddings, and summer is the perfect time to
bring out these tasty
little
treats.
Cupcakes are easy
to eat and they’re
portable - no plater
or utensils needed.
You don’t have to
pay for the caterer to
cut and serve cupcakes as you would
with a traditional
cake, which makes
them a great alternative for the budget
savvy bride and
groom.

Citrus Centerpieces
Fruit can make a
beautiful and unexpected display for
the tables at your
reception.
Pick
hearty fruits that
work with your
color scheme, like
lemons, limes, or
oranges. Avoid delicate fruits that might
not hold up in the
summer heat.
Winter Wedding Ideas
Winter is truly a wonderland when it
comes to inexpensive and creative ideas
for your wedding.
There are so many fun wintery elements
that you can incorporate into your décor to
really make your wedding unique.
Winter has many possible themes,
whether your wedding is centered around
the excitement of the holidays or the quiet
peacefulness of nature as it goes dormant.
Below are some great winter wedding
ideas that will make your big day an event
to remember.
Table Settings and Center Pieces
Since few plants flower in the winter,
why not utilize what mother nature gives
you.
Choose pine cones, twigs, and berries to
use as a part of your center piece.
They can be painted white, silver, gold,
or red to really make them stand out.
Cocktails and Meals
Plan to serve some special wintery cocktails to get everyone feeling warm and
toasty.
Hot Toddys, cinnamon martinis, or irish
coffee are great drinks to warm the soul.
Coordinate with the vendor who is providing your bar and see if they can help
you choose some seasonal cocktail options
to offer your guests.
For your meal, consider fare such as
game, fowl, or roast rack of lamb.
Serve with harvest-type vegetables like
squash and root vegetables.
You may also want to serve a hearty soup
such as pumpkin or butternut squash.
Setting the Mood
For an intimate atmosphere, use lots of
candles at each table but keep the overhead room lighting low.
This will really warm up the room and
enhance the mood of your celebration.
For a brighter and lighter atmosphere, try
using white lights or paper lanterns to illuminate the room in a wash of light, which
will give everything a magical feel.
Winter Wedding Color Palettes
Winter is the time of the year when
nature goes dormant, so this should be
reflected in your color palette.
Stick with various shades of white along
with cool and neutral colors for your wedding color palette.
Creative accents can add a splash of
color against the neutral background.

A Guy’s Guide to Selecting the Perfect Engagement Ring
Getting engaged is a very personal and intimate experience for a
couple. But for many guys, the purchase of the can be a bit overwhelming.
Color, clarity, cut, carat weight - there’s a lot to consider!
But by understanding the basics of diamonds and keeping the future
bride in mind, guys can find the process of selecting a ring much less
daunting.
Know the 4Cs
Men should always consider the color, clarity, cut and carat weight
of a diamond. Color and clarity, less commonly understood, are critical to the quality of the stone. Choose a diamond valued higher on
both the color and clarity grading scales to limit the presence of color
and unwanted inclusions. Carat and cut, on the other hand, are personal preferences. Keep the bride’s personality in mind to select a size
and a shape that will complement her style.
Get certified
To guarantee the diamond’s authenticity and quality, be sure to purchase a diamond that is certified. The diamond’s certificate outlines all
the individual characteristics of the stone, including the 4Cs, serving
as proof of the diamond’s identity and value.
Be unique
For many women, an engagement ring is their most treasured piece
of jewelry, so it’s important that it is special and unique. A rose gold
band or colored side stones, for example, can accent a traditional ring
with a touch of color. To personalize the piece further, consider custom designing a one-of-a-kind ring tailored to the bride’s individual
style.
A final piece of advice: Remember what the ring signifies. With so
much to bear in mind, it can be easy to lose the romance of selecting
an engagement ring. Although it is valuable to know the basics of a
diamond, what’s most important is for men to remember the reason
they’re buying it.
Tallpine Lodges, a great place for a well-deserved break
By REBECA KUROPATWA
As the traditional winter holiday time of spending time with family
and friends winds down, some couples may be looking for a more intimate setting.
A great place for just that is Tallpine Lodges.
Less than two years ago, in the summer of 2013, Sacha and TJ
Harder became the new owners of Tallpine Lodges.
Tallpine Lodges was one of the first resorts in Manitoba to acquire
the distinction of a couples-only resort. Today, one or two
other exclusively couples resorts have been established.
Giving a snapshot of what the Tallpine Lodges experience
is like, Sacha said, “Lodges are designed to comfortably
accommodate two people. It’s very quiet. You feel like
you’re in the middle of nowhere, even though you’re right in
West Hawk.”
Situated just two minutes from West Hawk Lake, Tallpine
Lodges provides guests with ample opportunity to spot a
variety of wildlife – from deer to birds, squirrels, and even
foxes.
Visitors to the lodge range from couples in their late teens
all the way up to those in their 90s.
“It was a 65 year anniversary, which was cool,” said Sacha.
“We get a lot of people who come here for honeymoons and
anniversaries, or those wanting to escape the city and come
where it’s quiet.”
Each lodge offers a private Jacuzzi and sauna, a kitchenette, and all the other special amenities you would expect
to find at a hotel. In the summer, there is a heated pool on
site.
“We offer bikes and canoes, and are hoping for some
kayaks this summer,” said Sacha. “We also have cross-country skis and snowshoes, free for our guests to use.”
For an additional cost, guests can rent jet skis and snowmobiles.
Other attractions in the area include ice fishing, horse stables, a ski hill, hiking/snowshoe trails, cross-country ski
trails, and all that West Hawk has to offer.
The Harders are currently working on putting together
honeymoon and anniversary packages in time for the summer. “We’ll have romantic chocolates and candles lit in the
cabin when you arrive,” said Sacha.
Rates range from $140-to-$180/night, depending on the
selected lodge and day of the week. Weekends are generally busier than weekdays, especially during the off-season.
There is a peak rate for long weekends.
