Rotterdam is the city with the smartest port in the world. It is a mediagenic
metropolis with an ever growing skyline full of modern architecture. It is also home to
600,000 Rotterdammers representing more than 170 different nationalities, each
having their own story. They make Rotterdam a bustling metropolis, with a lot of
room for new initiatives.
The port of Rotterdam is the largest logistics and industrial hub in Europe. In 2014
Rotterdam saw the transhipment of almost 445 million tonnes of goods by approximately
30,000 vessels, making it the largest European seaport. The Rotterdam port area is the only
one in northwest Europe that offers unrestricted access to the most deep-drafted vessels.
The construction of Maasvlakte 2 has provided the port with room for further growth.
The city and port of Rotterdam are constantly in motion: the economy demands sustainable
transition in bio-based and circular business operations. Businesses in our region are in the
vanguard of this transition. The world of vessels, containers and hard workers is
progressively becoming a world of digital communication, chips and sensors. According to
economist Jeremy Rifkin, the gateway to Europe is a testing ground for people, data and
‘the Internet of things’. Rifkin predicts that in 2030 the Rotterdam mainport will be a selfthinking, fully automatic transit machine that runs on an unmanned super Internet.
The Municipality of Rotterdam and the Port of Rotterdam Authority cordially invite you to
attend a seminar on Food Logistics. We would like to show you what the Rotterdam region
has to offer as an innovative port for the food industry. Rotterdam-based businesses are
busily engaged in creating new markets. For this reason we are seeking new trade partners.

West Africa who are active in the fruit, flower, fish and/or meat industries. During the
seminar we will try to match these businesses with importers, coldstores, multinationals,
retailers, trade organisations, carriers and logistics service providers in Europe.
