GO WITH REPUTATION NOT SPECULATION
Darrell Cox began cylinder head development on the pre-production Dodge SRT-4’s with DaimlerChrysler to find
performance. While working with the engineers, several of Darrell’s suggestions were implemented to the SRT-4 cylinder
head by the time it hit production in 2003. Due to cost restraints and timelines, a few of Darrell’s suggestions did not get
implemented. When purchasing a cylinder head from Darrell Cox Racing every aspect of the cylinder head is addressed and
fulfilled. Although extreme or exotic for a factory fit but this is exactly what will pick up an amazing amount of horsepower
in your SRT-4 without compromising durability. Almost everyone in the industry offers some sort of ‘fluff and buff’ hand
port job. Darrell’s signature port jobs are machined to exact tolerances and are at least 10cc’s larger than all competitors’
‘fluff and buff’ to take the 2.4L cylinder head to the level your SRT is screaming for.
All cylinder heads are cleaned, inspected and pressure checked before the extensive machining processes begin. All cam
caps are stamped and tagged each head to ensure proper location. Each cylinder head then is ‘jigged’ for the port machining
processes. During the intake port machining all ports are sized to the appropriate cc volume and shaped to DCR spec for the
most in flow, velocity, fuel suspension and atomization. This also ensures port location to be center lined with each cylinder
as most ports deviate from the O.E. casting process. After a few hours of machining, the cylinder head is ‘jigged’ for the
exhaust port machining. During the exhaust port machining all ports are sized to the appropriate cc volume and shaped to
DCR spec for the most in flow and velocity. DCR Basic Cylinder Head exhaust shape inhibits exhaust gas reversion during
the valve overlap. DCR Pro Series Cylinder Head ‘B’ shaped exhaust port with its added anti-reversion feature offers the
most in performance. If you opt for the DCR Pro Series Cylinder Head, then the head is “jigged’ for combustion chamber
machining for the spherical design.
For the most in performance gains, the stock combustion chamber shape has to be changed to the DCR design. This
spherical chamber improves flow from enshrouding the valves while offering the best shape for producing horsepower while
minimizing the chance of spark knock. After all machining processes, the cylinder head ports are abrasive rolled to select grit
finish to ensure proper flow and fuel suspension.
DCR designed cylinder head pinning for the SRT-4 to reinforce and to support combustion chambers under high
horsepower. DCR adds camshaft oil journal chamfering which increases the longevity while preventing unnecessary wear
and tear of the camshafts and journals. DCR head chamfer involves chamfering the oil passages to add lubricity to the cam
journals while freeing horsepower. Within, the packages you will notice 2 different valve jobs available; DCR ‘5’ Angle
Valve Job or DCR Serdi Patented Valve Job. While competitors ‘fluff and buffs’ offer the tradition ‘3’ Angle Valve Jobs
which is the same as stock, DCR’s Basic Cylinder Head comes standard with the ‘5’ Angle Valve Job for flow improvement.
DCR only offers the patented Serdi valve cutter in the DCR Racing and DCR Pro Series Cylinder Head. This patented
profile full radius valve job is worth more gains in performance alone than competitors’ port work combined with the
traditional ‘3’ Angle Valve Job. The Serdi valve job matched with the DCR valve back cut enhances the valves low lift flow.
DCR Valve Springs are made by Crane Cams with a custom fit from DCR.
In the DCR Racing and DCR Pro Series Cylinder Head, the valves are a one piece forged stainless steel with hard
chromed stems. These offer simply the best ductility, longevity and reliability when upgrading valves. DCR’s custom
designed light weight retainers are used in all cylinder head packages to surpass titanium and steel retainers performance and
durability. Each cylinder head package provides new O.E. specific valve seals and valve keepers. The DCR Racing and DCR
Pro Series Cylinder Heads are topped off with the DCR Oil Flow Modifier (patent pending) which controls the oil flow
linear volume and pressure to keep the lifters from over pumping throughout the entire RPM range. Each Cylinder head
deck is precision machined ‘resurfaced’ to ensure flatness and tolerance from end to end while maintaining the RA (finish)
for proper head gasket seal. Each DCR Cylinder Head is completely assembled prior to shipment.
There is no other cylinder head in the market the is comparable to Darrell’s intake and exhaust porting combined with
his complete suggested package for each head. DCR cylinder heads offer you nothing but the best. If you are looking to
do your cylinder head once and want the best gains for the value, then you are in good hands.
