Set your calendars now as
Spartan will fire
the gun on the
starting date,
projected to be
around the 3rd
week in March,
just as soon as
it’s known and
safe for us to
get to work.
To bring you up
to speed on new
clubhouse construction. By
the time you
read this missive, the roof
should be on;
the pool area
will be both
filled and dug;
the electricians
and plumbers
will be hard at it; some of you
may have consumed “bangers
and mash” and enjoyed it.
Hope everyone had a safe and
happy Mardi Gras. I know I did and
for me, highlight of the festivities
was parading down Bourbon Street
accompanied by two [2] most captivating “Diva’s” in the image of
Cathy Deano and Becky Conner,
while assisted by a pair of credible
looking “Elvi” in the shape of Jay
Conner and Walter Mader. The
home crafted, beaded “bustiere”
costumes were really quite splendid
as was the Krewe’s self descriptive
mission statement “Divine Protectors of Endangered Pleasures”.
pable of producing when they have
Brent as their technical consultant
and supervisor!
Some of you may have noticed, Ian
and I have been spending a lot of
time together recently. Well, that’s
because there’s a lot going on.
Firstly, the regular Monday meetings with Architects/Builders and
there again, the swimming pool
R&D, plus there’s the $130K of
excluded [to Spartan’s contract]
items to sweat over. But not only
that, we have just spent several days
hard labor finishing off the south
dock project started by the U,S.
Sailing Symposium volunteers.
Take a look at the workmanship

Just cruise around the

[contributing] friends.
My point is, it’s all about the volunteering spirit and that’s what we
are going to need a lot of these upcoming 2-3 months. If you haven’t
done so already, please identify
your particular skills and sign up
with the following team leaders:
Ian Prosser – team leader
coordinator
Jeff Bishop - fencing
ing
Vaughan Sollberger &
John Williams [co-leaders] – carpentry, bar and kitchen.
Gene Wanless – systems

Or, be like me and Just show up!
in the expectation someone will
take you on.
Again, all volunteers please.
You will have the opportunity
to make history and earn bragging rights, for ever.
Yours for ever,
Kelvin

Social Scene - Bridget Jarvis
First, a thank you to all those who keep
the kitchen humming in our little doublewide. Kelvin and Janie did a fine job
with the Crawfish Julie. Erin Powell and
Bev Toebben did a fabulous job organizing grill night, and both Faith Albert and
Nancy Wyllie made some wonderful
soups for us. THANK YOU ALL!
This is a reminder that the Social Calendar is hung up in the Club, please feel
free to sign up to do an event. We promise, you can’t be fired from this job!
quite interesting!! The menu and the
music details are in the works. We will
need “all hands on deck” to help sell tickets, serve food, etc. so please call me
(626-1751) or e-mail
([email protected]) me to volunteer.
As the weather gets warmer come spend
some time at the Club.

From the Vice –
The Bylaws Committee is involved in the ongoing process of
updating the club’s bylaws/
charter as necessary, due to
changes in membership regulations, financial condition, physical plant, and legal or insurance
requirements. The last major
overhaul of the bylaws was completed in 2004; the 2007 revision will be available upon Board
approval of the changes recommended by the committee. In
the meantime, new additions to
the bylaws are being approved
and presented as usual. The latest addition appears below and
will become effective on March
21, 2007.
Section 5, Article H
“In the event the club initiates
legal action against a member
in order to recover monies
due, said membership may be
revoked at the discretion of the
board. Former members who
have previously been named by
the club in such actions will not
be allowed to re-join the organization or be allowed on the
premises as the guest of a current member under any circumstances.”
On another note, the club hopes to
host a silent auction/dinner this
month or in April to raise funds for
Jeff
Lindheim
and
crew,
who
have
qualified to
attend
the
Melges
Worlds in California in May.
So – if you have items to donate,
or come across any good stuff
while doing your spring cleaning,
please deliver to the club or my
home (270 Lafayette St., Mandeville). Additional information will
be sent via PYC Events.

The one design season is getting underway with the
Leukemia Cup regatta on March 17 & 18 and the LPMR
multihull regatta on April 13-15. We will need help on
and off the water, so contact me if you would like to help
in some way; I will post a sign up list on the board at the
club.
The sugar bowl regatta was sailed in N.O. in December
with Jeff Lindheim skipper with David Bolyard sr. and

told he did a great job. It is great to see our new juniors
out getting involved in racing so if you believe you child
may be interested in sailing at Capdevielle events please
contact me and I will get them out and racing as soon as
it warms up on the water.
The Mardi Gras regatta will be sailed on March 10-11 in
N.O. for PHRF and 1-design boats so lets get out there
and bring our new boats out and continue our winning
ways!

Race - Terri Hamilton
Race season has started at
PYC. For those of you who
missed it, we held our first
race on Sunday, February
11th. This was a PHRF race
and 7 boats, complete with
skippers and crew, participated. Two new boats were
on the starting line; Jigawatts skippered by Gere
Berndsen, and
French Kiss, skippered by
Don Osborne. Only one
race was completed as
the race committee was too
cold to stay out and race another. Frigate won the race
followed closely by the trimaran skippered by Bob
Hodges.
Plenty of races are planned
for the Spring Series. No

Membership - K. Vaughan Sollberger, Jr.
The Membership Committee has been busy interviewing prospective
members. In addition to Rick and Lori Murphy, Buck Abbey, Chris and
Kim Lopez, Gerard and Joy Berndsen, the Membership Committee has
become familiar with Mandeville Resident member candidate Bill Haake,
CFO / Investor Relations with Metairie Bank.
Steve and Connie Attard of Temperance, Minnesota are seeking to join
as Non-Resident members. Steve, a pilot with Northwest Airlines, is
originally from Mandeville and still makes time to crew in GYA events and
sail his Hobie.
We are also working on a new member packet. This packet will contain
information about our club and its history, a current Chart, volunteer
opportunities, and schedule of events, as well as contact information and a
few other goodies!
As Always, if you wish to share your views, please fell free to contact
anyone from our Membership Committee : Chuck Wyllie, Celeste
Thorson, Phyllis Danielson, Tom Quinlan, Bob Lipscomb and myself.
