ICES March 2015 Integrated Community Equipment Service ICES News Pressure Reducing Equipment Update Several of our old lines of alternating pressure reducing mattresses are coming to the end of their natural lives. We have now made the decision to quarantine the remaining stock, removing them from the standard stock lists and replace with the new alternating mattress ranges. Rising costs of service and repair, and lack of spares available have meant that to continue to use the remaining stock is becoming unviable. Though the older mattresses will continue to be used in the community, we are hoping that over the next year or so that these will steadily be replaced. The update to more modern PR mattresses also mean that we have changed our service program in line with the manufacturers recommendations, reducing both distress to patients and work for clinicians. Premier Active (2) mattresses (PREMACT/ PREMACT2) do not require servicing AutoLogic mattresses 110 (LOGIC110), Dual Professional mattresses (DUALPROF), Aura Cushions (AURA) & Dual Cushion (DUALCUSH) will be serviced every two years. Quattro mattresses (FDP7000) and Nimbus3 mattresses (NIMBU03) require annual servicing (though these are still available to order via ELMS, they are due to be phased out over the next year). Service due labels will be changed when equipment is returned to ICES. If you have a mattress issued prior to Feb 2015 please note that the service due date will be incorrect. If you are concerned a mattress/cushion may be due a service please call ICES to check before arranging collection. Remember all Premacts no longer require servicing so any service due labels can be ignored. Note also that Dual Professional mattresses and cushions are still part on an ongoing appraisal project. A short evaluation form will need to be completed 2 weeks after issue of these pieces and returned promptly. Also to avoid unnecessary costly and distressing equipment exchanges attached to this months ICES news is a handy trouble shooting guide for mattress faults, though not exhaustive it covers the main issues that can occur leading to mattress failures which are easily fixed in situ. See Dates for your Diary section for further practical training sessions on our range of Pressure Reducing equipment. ALPHAX, ALPHARES, QUATTRO & AUTOEXCEL are being replaced with PREMACT/2 & LOGIC110 PEGASUS & NIMBUS3 are being replaced with & DUALPROF Pressure Mattress Troubleshooting Guide Allow time for mattress to inflate fully —this can take up to 30 minutes. Indicator lights will go out once mattress is fully inflated and desired pressure is reached. Alarms can occur for different reasons, for example: Low/High pressure; Internal Motor Faults & Power Failure. Alarms can be silenced temporarily by pressing the MUTE button. An alarm condition can be reset by switching the motor off and then on again. AutoLogic110 spanner light has two phases: Continuously lit = mattress is functioning normally, but service is due; Flashing = pump has detected an internal fault, please call ICES. Before calling ICES please CHECK: Motor is switched both on unit and at mains plug, and the mains lead is connected securely to the motor. Mattress is positioned correctly on bed with motor at foot end. Patient weight controls are set for appropriate patient weight. Mattress connectors (tube-sets) are not kinked or twisted. CHECK connections are securely fitted to motor and mattress. Push connectors in until they ‘click’ which signifies a secure connection. Connect Pegasus Cairwave mattress hose to motor by aligning the white dot marker on connector, pushing in at the white arrow on the motor. Rotate the connector to line up the marker with the green dot. CPR connections are fitted correctly, not open and CPR stoppers are securely inserted. (NB, Mattresses are delivered with the CPR plug out). To access the Dual Professional mattress CPR plug undo top cover by the CPR tag and part the mattress cells to locate the CPR latch. Firmly push the CPR latch into the four holes. Open Closed Dual professional CPR plug, NEVER use electrically heated under-blankets on or under the overlay. DO NOT attach replacement mattress directly to bed frame. DO NOT use overlay directly on bed frame.
