Prayer: Part I
Luke 11:1 And it came to pass,
that, as he was praying in a
certain place, when he ceased,
one of his disciples said unto
him, Lord, teach us to pray, as
John also taught his disciples.
Prayer
Matthew 6:5, "And when
thou prayest, thou shalt not
be as the hypocrites are: for
they love to pray standing in
the synagogues and in the
corners of the streets, that
they may be seen of men.
Verily I say unto you, They
have their reward."
Prayer
Matthew 6:6, "But thou, when thou prayest, enter into
thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy
Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in
secret shall reward thee openly."
Prayer
2 Kings 18:13, "Now in the fourteenth year of
king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria
come up against all the fenced cities of Judah,
and took them."
Prayer
2 Kings 18:28-30, "Then
Rabshakeh stood and cried
with a loud voice in the Jews'
language, and spake, saying,
Hear the word of the great
king, the king of Assyria: Thus
saith the king, Let not
Hezekiah deceive you: for he
shall not be able to deliver you
out of his hand: Neither let
Hezekiah make you trust in
the LORD, saying, The LORD
will surely deliver us, and this
city shall not be delivered into
the hand of the king of
Assyria."
Prayer
2 Kings 18:33-36, "Hath any of the
gods of the nations delivered at all his
land out of the hand of the king of
Assyria? Where are the gods of
Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the
gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?
have they delivered Samaria out of
mine hand? Who are they among all
the gods of the countries, that have
delivered their country out of mine
hand, that the LORD should deliver
Jerusalem out of mine hand? But the
people held their peace, and answered
him not a word: for the king's
commandment was, saying, Answer
him not."
Prayer
2 Kings 19:1, "And it
came to pass, when king
Hezekiah heard it, that he
rent his clothes, and
covered himself with
sackcloth, and went into
the house of the LORD."
Prayer
2 Kings 19:14-16, "And Hezekiah
received the letter of the hand of the
messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah
went up into the house of the LORD, and
spread it before the LORD. And Hezekiah
prayed before the LORD, and said, O
LORD God of Israel, which dwellest
between the cherubims, thou art the God,
even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of
the earth; thou hast made heaven and
earth. LORD, bow down thine ear, and
hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see:
and hear the words of Sennacherib, which
hath sent him to reproach the living God."
Prayer
2 Kings 19:19, "Now therefore, O LORD our God,
I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all
the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art
the LORD God, even thou only."
The Answer !
2 Kings 19:20-22, "Then Isaiah the son of
Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith
the LORD God of Israel, That which thou
hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king
of Assyria I have heard. This is the word
that the LORD hath spoken concerning
him; The virgin the daughter of Zion hath
despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn;
the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her
head at thee. Whom hast thou reproached
and blasphemed? and against whom hast
thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine
eyes on high? even against the Holy One of
Israel."
The Answer !
2 Kings 19:32-34, "Therefore thus
saith the LORD concerning the
king of Assyria, He shall not
come into this city, nor shoot an
arrow there, nor come before it
with shield, nor cast a bank
against it. By the way that he
came, by the same shall he return,
and shall not come into this city,
saith the LORD. For I will defend
this city, to save it, for mine own
sake, and for my servant David's
sake."
The Answer !
2 Kings 19:35, "And it
came to pass that
night, that the angel of
the LORD went out,
and smote in the camp
of the Assyrians an
hundred fourscore and
five thousand: and
when they arose early
in the morning,
behold, they were all
dead corpses."
The Prayer !
Matthew 6:7-8, "But
when ye pray, use not
vain repetitions, as the
heathen do: for they
think that they shall be
heard for their much
speaking. Be not ye
therefore like unto
them: for your Father
knoweth what things
ye have need of,
before ye ask him."
The Vain Prayer !
• 1 Kings 18:25-26, "And Elijah
said unto the prophets of Baal,
Choose you one bullock for
yourselves, and dress it first; for
ye are many; and call on the
name of your gods, but put no
fire under. And they took the
bullock which was given them,
and they dressed it, and called
on the name of Baal from
morning even until noon,
saying, O Baal, hear us. But
there was no voice, nor any that
answered. And they leaped upon
the altar which was made."
The Vain Prayer !
1 Kings 18:27-29, "And it came to pass at
noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry
aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or
he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or
peradventure he sleepeth, and must be
awaked. And they cried aloud, and cut
themselves after their manner with knives
and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon
them. And it came to pass, when midday was
past, and they prophesied until the time of
the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
there was neither voice, nor any to answer,
nor any that regarded."
The Simple Prayer !
1 Kings 18:36-37, "And it came to
pass at the time of the offering of
the evening sacrifice, that Elijah
the prophet came near, and said,
LORD God of Abraham, Isaac,
and of Israel, let it be known this
day that thou art God in Israel, and
that I am thy servant, and that I
have done all these things at thy
word. Hear me, O LORD, hear
me, that this people may know
that thou art the LORD God, and
that thou hast turned their heart
back again."
The Simple Prayer !
1 Kings 18:38-39, "Then the
fire of the LORD fell, and
consumed the burnt
sacrifice, and the wood, and
the stones, and the dust, and
licked up the water that was
in the trench. And when all
the people saw it, they fell
on their faces: and they said,
The LORD, he is the God;
the LORD, he is the God."
“After this Manner “ !

manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed be thy
name."

upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it
stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his
face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And
one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts:
the whole earth is full of his glory."

value than many sparrows."

Until seven times: but, Until
seventy times seven."
John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and
saw none but the woman, he said unto her,
Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no
man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto
her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no
more.
“That you may love one another “ !
Matthew 18:23-25, "Therefore
is the kingdom of heaven
likened unto a certain king,
which would take account of his
servants. And when he had
begun to reckon, one was
brought unto him, which owed
him ten thousand talents. But
forasmuch as he had not to pay,
his lord commanded him to be
sold, and his wife, and children,
and all that he had, and payment
to be made."
“That you may love one another “ !
Matthew 18:26-27, "The
servant therefore fell
down, and worshipped
him, saying, Lord, have

was moved with
compassion, and loosed
him, and forgave him the
debt."

servant went out, and found

were cast out with him.
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in
heaven, Now is come {salvation}, and
strength, and the kingdom of our God,
and the power of his Christ: for the accuser
of our brethren is cast down, which accused
them before our God day and night. 11 And
they overcame him by the blood of the

“The answered prayer “
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and
a new earth: for the first heaven and the first
earth were passed away; and there was no
more sea. 21:2 And I John saw the holy city,
new Jerusalem, coming down from God out
of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her
husband. 21:3 And I heard a great voice out of
heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God
[is] with men, and he will dwell with them,
and they shall be his people, and God himself
shall be with them, [and be] their God. 4 And
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any
more pain: for the former things are passed
away.
