He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat. A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words. Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?" The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way." I wrote: "Today is a beautiful day but I cannot see it." Both signs told people that the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people that they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective? Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively. When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile. Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear. The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling. And even more beautiful, is knowing that you are the reason behind it! Happy Thanksgiving to all! New CRE for St Michael-- Deb Ranly Hello! My name is Deb Ranly and I am the new Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) for the elementary grades, K-6 at St Michael’s. I recently moved into the CRE position from working as our CCD Office Secretary for the past year. Originally from Minster, I have resided along with my husband, Kevin, just outside of Fort Loramie for the past 22 years. We have two children, Makenzie (16) and Trey (12), who both attend Fort Loramie Schools. After taking part in a few of the classes offered here at St. Michaels, I began teaching third grade religion three years ago. This has been a very fun and rewarding experience for me. I have served as cantor for the Children’s Liturgy of the Word at weekend masses and I am also a board member of the St. Michael Education Commission. For the past ten years, I also was a Vacation Bible School volunteer. I really enjoy working with the public and the children and I am very excited and grateful to be in this position. The project of restoration of the Guardian Angel with Child and the Sacred Heart statues are in the final stages at this time. They are planning on having them complete by the end of October and back at St. Michael Church. Parishioner Jerome Barhorst volunteered to refinish the stands for the statues and they look “GREAT”. The next big event coming up in February will be the “Casseroles for a Cause”. Details will come later. Thank You for making this event a Huge Success! This could be your chance to become more involved with St. Ann’s by becoming an officer. The present officers are willing to help you with the transition and are excited about new ideas. Feel free to contact any of the officers if you have any questions. “Thank you” to the ladies that lead the rosary at the members’ funeral masses. “Thank you” Sandy Gehr et for sending Birthday cards and Holiday cards to the homebound and assisted/nursing homes. You are not alone. Here you can connect with support, encouragement, and practical stress-reducing ideas that will help you to survive the holidays. GriefShare, a weekly support group for people grieving the loss of a close personal relationship, will be offered at the Parish Office Center, from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. beginning Sun., Jan. 10 for 12 weeks. THE PARISH CONNECTION Kids’ Korner submitted by: Sharon Holdheide Page 8 VOL 11 Page 3 Youth Ministry ISSUE 4 by Kevin Schulze We invite people to many different things, whether it’s a party, hanging out, “Like” a page on Facebook, try a certain food or product, or dinner, because we see a good in that thing and want others to experience that good as well, and be able to share in that good with them. For some things we invite a few close friends and family, and for some things we invite our 1k plus Facebook friends. For small birthday parties, we send out a few invitations for the people closest to the birthday celebrant so that the celebrant can be showered in love and affection and feel their life is appreciated by those around them, and so those close to them can feel special to be a part of his/ her life. For weddings, the couple desires to invite as many people, within practical reason, that have been a part of their life, to share in their joy and show them their appreciation for their support, while their guests enjoy sharing in the couple’s special moment and day. and long for others to know of its good as well. The lack of invitation leaves people feeling as though someone doesn’t want to share in the good with them, or that the good really wasn’t that great. We know that in more cases than not, we want to invite everyone we know, and only practicalities limit our list. If there was an opportunity to gather every person we knew and were close with, to celebrate and share a common good, we would jump at the chance and send out the invitations hoping we didn’t miss anyone. Whatever the “thing” is that we invite for, we know of its good, Of course invitation opens a door to rejection, but not inviting never The opportunity is here and available and costs nothing. Every Sunday, we experience the source and summit of our Christian faith, and share in the most important moment in all of humanity. We experience love in its deepest sense and are filled on the Bread of Life. We grow and are nourished and cannot find substitute anywhere else. Is this worth the invitation? opens any door. If we see that Mass is truly the best good in our lives, our desire to share it should extend beyond our spouse and children, to our co-workers, neighbors, friends, and acquaintances. You never know, the only thing holding them back may be that someone has never invited them. Share the invitation, and let God do the hard work! “Every Christian is challenged, here and now, to be actively engaged in evangelization; indeed, anyone who has truly experienced God’s saving love does not need much time or lengthy training to go out and proclaim that love.” Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium Stay in contact with us: Facebook: NFL Region Youth Ministry Twitter: @nflregyouthmin Email: [email protected] Email cell number to Kevin for text reminders THE PARISH CONNECTION Page 4 FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015 This is the beginning of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. ‘Be Merciful like the Father’ EL SALVADOR ENCOUNTER SOLIDARITY SKYPE SOCIALS Hey, high school students!
