We are beginning another school year this week
and I am excited to see the building up of a Spiritfilled atmosphere in preparation for the return of
all our terrific students. I would like to take this
opportunity to update you all on a couple of things
that we have been preparing for this coming year.
First, we are in the process of looking for a new Parish Youth Minister who will serve
the high school students of our parish, as well as focusing on a middle school youth
program. Please keep us in your prayers as we search for the person that the Lord has
in mind for us for this important ministry for the youth of our parish. I thank Samantha
Hightower for her hard work and wish her well in the next phase of her life.
Secondly, after careful prayer, consultation and discernment, I have hired Leslie
Goodman, a member of St. Michael Parish, as the new Safe Environment Coordinator
for the Parish and School. It has become very clear to me that this position is
needed to assist in processing and educating parishioners and school families on
the requirements of the Safe Environment Policies of the Diocese of Columbus. This
position will help to ensure that these policies and protocols are being followed with
consistency and will provide for greater accuracy and accountability for meeting these
requirements.
Mrs. Goodman’s Office will be in the Religious Education Office, located on the top
floor of the School building. Her regular office hours will be Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Please know that while she will begin
her position on Wednesday of this week, she will need some time for training in her
position, which will be done as quickly as possible. Her email address, should you have
any questions for her, will be [email protected]. She may be reached by
phone at 614-885-3149, ext. 143. Please welcome her to the staff.
Over the last couple weeks, we have seen the terrible news of the historic flooding in
Louisiana. The region is experiencing what is being called the worst domestic disaster
since Hurricane Sandy. As many as 60,000 homes have been damaged, with nearly
20,000 people being rescued from the flood waters. Lives have been cruelly altered.
As a result, Bishop Campbell requests that all parishes in the Diocese of Columbus
participate in the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ emergency collection
to assist the victims of the 2016 Louisiana Floods.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the families who have lost loved ones and to all
those living in communities who have lost homes and businesses along with their
sense of security. Our prayer and material support is urgently needed to help rebuild
lives. The USCCB has asked that this emergency collection for the 2016 Louisiana
floods be taken on the weekend of September 17-18, 2016. This emergency collection
will be used both to support the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and
to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses of that region. This
collection will be taken after communion at Masses that weekend. Please make your
checks out to St. Michael Parish and write “USCCB Flood collection” on the memo line
of your check.
In Christ, Fr. Anthony A. Dinovo, Jr.

STEWARDSHIP
AUGUST 28, 2016
22ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.”
– Luke 14:13-14
THE ARCHANGEL
WORTHINGTON, OHIO
We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return.
Even when we give to charity we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a dinner, or a change to play golf.
Yet, as Christian stewards we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven.
Stewardship Prayers of the Faithful
That through our generous giving, we can help those in need
share in the gifts that God has bestowed on us.

What do you remember about St. Michael that you would like to share?
We would love to hear from you. As part of our Parish 70th Anniversary,
we hope you have enjoyed reading some of our parish milestones. You
may want to save this and some of our previous announcements for
reference, as we will be having a Trivia Contest of sorts at our Festival
Booth for a chance to win prizes. We are also looking for volunteers to begin creating a
collage of past Festival materials for framing that we can display during this year’s 40th
Anniversary Festival. Our History Committee meets in the Undercroft – basement under
the church (temporarily for the summer) on Wednesday evenings, at 7:00 p.m. We have
been putting out a notice for volunteers, but we have not been getting any responses. We
are trying to organize our photo albums, scrapbooks, newspaper articles as well as would
like to frame and display other organizations to highlight our parish history. If you would
like to help, please contact Alex Jamieson via e-mail [email protected] or by text/
phone at 614-288-6402 or just come and join us any Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m.
The History Committee is also looking for volunteers to sit at our History Booth during
the Festival. Please contact Alex Jamieson via e-mail at [email protected] or
by text/phone at 614-288-6402.
CALLING, ALL BAKERS!
SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS
Please help make the Festival Silent
Auction a success by donating any new
merchandise or gift cards. No gift is too
small – our volunteers are very good at
combining items into themed baskets.
Please place any donations in the pink
tub in Marian Hall from now until August
31st. For safekeeping, expensive items
can be dropped off in the office or can
be picked up by auction workers. Please
contact Elaine Damo (614-256-9853 or
[email protected]) to arrange for a
pick-up or if you have any questions.
Thank you for your support!
The St. Michael Festival is quickly approaching. There are lots of ways
you can get involved and one of them is by baking fresh, homemade
treats to sell at the bake sale. The bake sale is held each day of the
festival and we’ll need both volunteers to help at the booth and
bake the goodies. We’ll need enough pies, cakes, cookies, brownies,
cupcakes, dessert breads, muffins, buckeyes, cake pops, cannoli, and other ethnic treats
for all three nights of the Festival. Also, we’d like to offer a “specialty section” offering
vegan desserts, as well as items free of gluten, sugar, lactose, and/or nuts. If God has
gifted you with the ability to satisfy a sweet tooth, please sign up to bake, help sell the
goodies, or both! To sign up, visit www.signupgenius.com. Find the tab in the top right
of page, enter: [email protected], then search for Bake Sale and choose
the times and dates that work for you, or just email Kelly Nasdeo at kellynasdeo@gmail.
com. If computers are not your thing, please feel free to call Steve Nasdeo at 614-7457057. Thank you. We can’t do it without your help. We can’t do it without you!
Pick-up/Drop-off Information: Disposable containers are available in Marian Hall.
Please take as many as you think you will fill and also make sure to grab a label for
each container. You can start bringing your items starting Thursday, September 1st,
6:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m.; continuing Friday, September 2nd, 6:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.; Saturday,
September 3rd, 8:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.; and Sunday, September 4th, 8:00 a.m.-7:00

FAITH FORMATION
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC?
Or know someone who is?
Registration is now available. Classes start September 14, 2016.
• Has your journey in life lead you to the question, Why become Catholic? If so, please join us as we grow
and learn what being Catholic means?
• Being Catholic is a universal call to holiness. Holiness is growing close to God through your faith which you believe and live in your
daily life. Catholics are able to actively participate in the sacramental life of the Church. A Church which was founded by Jesus Christ
and 2,000 years later remains, guided by the Holy Spirit. It is a Church built on Scripture and Tradition.
• RCIA is a preparatory time in which someone who is prompted by the Spirit feels called to become Catholic, and receives teachings
and instructions on the Catholic Faith. It is fun and informative at the same time. We provide a variety of topics, areas for discussion,
as well as many different speakers and teachers who provide a well-rounded introduction to the faith. It culminates by being
initiated into the Catholic Church at the Easter vigil Mass, where one is able to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and
Confirmation.
We are excited to announce RCIA Classes beginning in September 2016. Starting Wednesday, September 14, 2016-April 5, 2017, we
will begin classes in preparation for those who are interested in becoming Catholic, or who those have been baptized and are looking
to receive instructions on initiation and bring them into full Communion with the Church. The classes will be offered Wednesday
evenings, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. For registration, please contact the Parish Office at 614-885-7814 or email Fr. Tim Lynch at tlynch@
saintmichael-cd.org.
