Dotted Lines-These are the cutting lines.
Accordion Fold-This fold is like making a paper fan. Fold on the first line so that title is on top. Turn
over and fold on next line so that title is on top again. Turn over again and fold again on the next line
so that title is on top. Continue until all folds are done.
Cover Labels-Most of the booklets that are folded look nicer with a label on top instead of just a
blank space. They will be referred to as “cover label.”

How do I know where to place each booklet in the lapbook?

A booklet placement key is at the top of every booklet page. This key shows where that particular
booklet will go in that folder.

This placement key tells you the booklet goes in the first
folder at the top of the left flap.
How do I use the video with the lapbook?
First and most important, let your child watch the video without interruption. Your child can begin the
lapbook at any time once the uninterrupted session of the video is complete. As you work through
the lapbook, pause the video when it gets to the subject matter that is covered in each booklet. We
make every effort to cover the subject matter in the lapbook sequentially with the movie.
Or, you may choose to let your child work through the lapbook after watching the video in its entirety
first. The lapbook will take several days to complete, so you may want your child to watch the video
again before continuing with the lapbook each time. The child that likes to watch the same video
over and over may prefer this method.
What if my child is not writing yet or does not like to write?
If your child does not write or prefers not to write, we have answers boxes in the back of the lapbook
pages that your child can cut out and glue into the booklets. You might prefer to turn the answer
boxes into stickers by printing them on a sheet of sticker paper. In some cases, your child can even
draw the answer.

Gather the number of folders required for the
project. Fold them flat as seen here.

For each folder, fold the left and right sides
inward toward the original line to create two
flaps. Crease so that the highest part of each
flap is touching the original line. It is important
not to let the two flaps overlap. You may want
to take a ruler and run it down each crease to
make it sharper.

Glue your folders together by putting glue (or
you may staple) on the inside of the flaps. Then
press the newly glued flaps together with your
hands until they get a good strong hold to each
other. Follow this step to add as many folders
as you need for your project. Most of our
lapbooks have either 2 or 3 folders.

My child has made several lapbooks. Can I store all of the lapbooks together in one place?

Yes! A three-ring binder serves as a great place to keep your lapbooks. This method of storage
not only keeps your lapbooks from getting lost but also keeps them neat and readily available to
share with dad, grandparents, friends, etc. When you are through sharing your lapbooks, just
place the three-ring binder back on your bookshelf! Below are step-by-step directions of how to
prepare each lapbook to be placed a in a three-ring binder.
Close the lapbook. Measure a
piece of duct tape that is as
long as the lapbook. Place the
edge of the duct tape on the top
edge of the lapbook. Then fold
the duct tape over so that it can
be placed on the bottom edge.
Make sure to leave enough duct
tape sticking out from the edges
to punch three holes. Be careful
when punching the holes that
you do not punch the holes in
the folder. If you do, that’s okay.
Then place in three-ring binder.
Depending on the size of your
three-ring binder, you can store
many lapbooks in it.

Minnesota Cuke is upset because Professor Rattan has taken the
golden carrot nose of The Indomitable Snowman of The North from
him. Cuke refers to Rattan as a bully.
Directions: Cut out the booklet. Fold in the middle. Fold over the
extra tab to keep the booklet closed. What is a bully? Write it inside
the booklet or cut out the answer box and glue inside the booklet.

A man from the New York Parks and Recreation Department comes to
the museum with news that a rogue Canadian group of barrel-makers is
planning to take both sides of Nigara Falls. The group is searching for
the legendary hairbrush of Samson that they believe will give them
amazing power.
Directions: Fold on the line. Cut out around shape to make a booklet
but do not cut fold. Glue into lapbook. What two sides (countries) border
Niagara Falls? Write the answer in your booklet or cut out the answer
box and glue inside booklet.

Cuke feels he must find Samson’s hairbrush first so that its amazing
power can be used to stop Rattan from bullying everybody.
Directions: Cut out the two pieces. Cut off the corner of the title piece
on the dotted line. Stack the title piece on top of the second piece and
staple at the top. Glue into lapbook.
Who was Samson? Write it in the booklet or cut out the answer box
and glue inside the booklet.

Folder 1
Cuke leaves Moose Lake and flies to Malta to see his friend Julia, who
he thinks might know the location of the hairbrush.
Directions: Cut out around the outside lines. Glue into lapbook. Draw
a line from the state of Minnesota (where Moose Lake is located) to
the island of Malta in the Mediterranean.
