What is BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT?
Our job in business and Economic Development may involve any or all of the following:
The first aspect of the business development is to identify new business opportunities.
We will identify what's happening in your industry—what your competitors are up to in terms of products and service offerings, pricing, marketing strategies, and so on.
Second, we'll help you to understand what your company is up to on an ongoing basis—to understand your company's strategy, how your company compares to its competitors, and how it's perceived in the marketplace. Third, you'll need to understand the market for your company's offerings—who comprises it, and how it may be changing.
Next, we’ll interview you and identify everything you know about your company. This is the part of the job in which you
identify possible ways to improve your company’s sales, which can mean identifying anything from new market segments
(or individual potential clients), to new sales channels to sell through, to other, related products or services in the marketplace with which your company's products or services can be combined into synergistic, "co-branded" offerings.
The next part of the job is prioritizing the new business opportunities you’ve identified. To do this, you'll need to compare
the potential returns of each new opportunity to the costs your company would incur to exploit it. Which means spreadsheets—lots of spreadsheets.
Finally, we will make efforts to bring the new opportunities you've identified and prioritized to fruition. In other words, we
will negotiate with those at other organizations who can help you take advantage of the opportunities you've identified. We
will close deals with those other organizations to increase your company's bottom line.
What is ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT?

Increased Tax Base…the additional revenue provided by economic development supports, maintains, and improves
local infrastructure, such as roads, parks, libraries, and emergency medical services.

Job Development…economic development provides better wages, benefits, and opportunities for advancement.

Business Retention…businesses feel appreciated by the community and, in turn, are more likely to stay in town, contributing to the economy.

Economic Diversification…a diversified economic base helps expand the local economy and reduces a community's
vulnerability to a single business sector.

Self-sufficiency…a stronger economic base means public services are less dependent on intergovernmental influences
and alliances, which can change with each election.

Productive Use of Property…property used for its "highest and best use" maximizes the value of that property.

Quality of Life…more local tax dollars and jobs raise the economic tide for the entire community, including the overall

First Amendment of the United States Constitution. “Government Relations Specialist” spend time with Ambassadors, legislators and others, to explain the goals of the organizations they represent and the obstacles elected officials face when dealing
with issues, to clients.
