Dear Friends,
Welcome to the sixth year of the Feast Your Mind celebration, benefitting the Ronald C. Wornick
Jewish Day School! On February 27, 2016, Wornick supporters will gather at 15 homes across
the Peninsula for an evening of nourishment for the mind and the body. Each home will have a
fascinating speaker along with a delicious meal in an intimate setting to provide an opportunity
for true discussion and learning. This event connects to the school’s mission of creative learning
in a collaborative, friendly setting.
This year, Wornick is delighted to welcome a committed Science Specialist on staff to help
the school implement the Next Generation Science Standards. The proceeds from Feast Your
Mind will support the growth of the science program as this robust initiative comes to every
classroom across the grades.
Please use this invitation to learn more about this unique event and the Wornick Jewish Day School. We hope you will
join us at one of the 15 inviting homes for an evening of camaraderie and learning in support of a wonderful cause – our
children’s future.

About Wornick
The Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School, founded in 1986, is a community
that welcomes students in grades K-8. The philosophy of the school rests on
three pillars that create a community of inspired learners:
Thinking Critically: Project-based learning with exceptional teachers who
empower students to dig deep and form enduring understandings;
Learning to Lead: Self-confidence, public speaking skills and personal
responsibility cultivated through multi-grade learning and leadership
opportunities;
Changing the World: Hebrew language and cross-cultural studies prepare students
for higher learning in a changing world to be the agents of change for the future.
With small class sizes and ample opportunities for differentiated learning,
children at Wornick are challenged and encouraged as individuals to become the
best version of themselves - academically, socially, spiritually and emotionally.
As one of our most beloved teachers is fond of saying, “It’s not IF you’re smart,
it’s HOW you’re smart.”
If you have not seen the school in action, please come visit and experience the
excitement of discovery taking place in every classroom, hallway and outdoor space!

General Information
Feast Your Mind Kashrut Policy
For the purposes of this event, and in order to make our Kosher meals accessible to nearly all members of our community, we have
adopted the following standard of Kashrut: Kosher means that the products used, including cheese and wine, carry a hechsher (any
formal certification of Kashrut other than a plain “K”). If Kosher, the hosts use separate dishes, pots, pans and utensils for meat and
dairy. Any event catered by a Va’ad-approved Kosher caterer who brings their own dishes is Kosher. Please note: All homes which are not
Kosher and are serving meat and chicken will be Kosher Style (no pork or shellfish). Also, all homes will be serving a vegetarian option.
When “combination” is noted under “food served,” there will be a combination of chicken, meat, and fish.

art and photography and how it inspires her simple, healthy recipes. Erin is the

Evolution from Pathologist to Winemaker
Kerith Overstreet
Wine Maker and MD
Picture this - you’re at a cocktail party, and your friend looks at her wine glass in dismay. “This ’04 Domaine du Vieux
Telegraphe is oxidized. Bleh.” But, you have no idea what she is talking about! Come learn a bit about the biochemistry of
wine while enjoying a progressive dinner at three homes within a block of each other. Each home will feature an Italian
food course paired with wines by Bruliam Winery.
Kerith Overstreet is a triple threat: Bruliam Wines co-founder, medical doctor, and mom to three young kids. After
retiring from general surgery (to pursue pathology) and then medicine (to have babies), she taught herself to recite
Goodnight Moon in 27 different languages. Knowing she couldn’t very well sit around quaffing wine all day without due
cause, she jumped headfirst into winemaking. Her final baby, Bruliam Wines was established in 2008. Since then, Kerith
has completed her enology courses at UC Davis and has crafted all of Bruliam’s wines since its launch. Kerith is often
asked to speak at industry events about her unique background and her expertise in the art and science of winemaking.
Kerith specializes in single vineyard, premium wines and named her winery in honor of her three children (Bruno, Lily,
Amelia). Its mission is to craft world-class wines while using 100% of their profits to support charitable organizations.

Discuss the finer points of pairing wine and food inside the Cuvée Wine Cellars

pairings by Cuvée. After 25 years in the financial and corporate world, Paul spent the
last 20 as owner of a successful construction company. Somewhere amidst running a
business built on brick, concrete and plaster, he made the trek to Napa and thus began
his love affair with grapes. Paul has spent the majority of his free time over the past
decade or so making wine and expanding his knowledge through classes at UC Davis,
hands-on training and working with other accomplished winemakers. He has moved
away from construction in order to become a full-time vintner, his true passion, and
his urban winery Cuvée Wine Cellars was established in San Carlos, CA.

How Stories Become News
Margie Shafer
KCBS News Reporter/Anchor
Are you interested in how stories become news? Meet Margie Shafer, a KCBS
news reporter covering the Bay Area. She can give behind-the-scenes impressions
and tell you about stories that don’t make the airwaves. Margie knew at a young
age that being a reporter was in her future. Somewhere in her parents’ backyard
shed, there is a box of trophies from high school speech and debate contests in
Santa Maria, California. Years later, in a moment of whimsy before a sorority
dance at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, she asked a trivia question
as a college radio station DJ and offered herself as the prize. After every phone
light on the board lit up, Margie knew this radio thing could work for her.
Margie’s first job in radio was at a rock and roll station in Aspen, Colorado,
where she also worked in local television. She quit her first news job to
backpack around the world for seven months spending most of her time in
Southeast Asia. Margie returned to Colorado as news director for the Rocky
Mountain Radio Network and anchored for the news/talk powerhouse
KOA in Denver. There were also stints at KVON in Napa and KGO in San
Francisco before Margie landed at KCBS.

Delvin Williams
Former NFL Player and Author
He gave everything he had to the game he loved. Hear from former NFL player,
Delvin Williams about his life after football. Drafted by the 49ers in the second
round of the 1974 draft, Delvin Williams would have one of the best individual
seasons for a running back in the franchise’s history to that point, and many of
the best individual performances in the franchise’s history ever. In 1976, Delvin
ran for 1,203 yards, breaking 49er Joe Perry’s single-season rushing record with
the team.He also set the team’s single-game rushing record at 194 yards, which
stood for the next 22 years. He fondly remembers his playing days with the
49ers. In 1978, Williams was traded to the the Miami Dolphins where he set
their single season rushing record with 1258 yards that stood for 25 years. He
made first team AFC All-Pro and became the first running back in the history
of the NFL to set rushing records and make All-Pro in both the AFC and NFC.
After retiring, Mr. Williams leveraged his experience as a professional athlete
to develop a background rich in the areas of youth activities, as well as sports
and drug abuse prevention. As executive director and founder of “Pros for
Kids,” he spearheaded several successful programs all of which sought to
curb substance abuse among youths.
