Decision time is now;
Deciding who you want to be
and how you want to get to
become that person. All
through life we make important decisions. There are an incredible
amount of super important decisions that we make in middle school.
Do you have dreams? Make them Come True!
Many of our teachers tell us that they’re preparing us for years to
come, but why not try to live in the moment of now? How will two or
three years be any different than right now if all we do is look into the
future? Everyone has dreams, or things they would like to accomplish— so start now! If you can’t achieve some of your goals right
away, don’t sweat it, focus on what you can do. Or, you could take
steps toward your big-time goal or dream.
In short, you are in charge of your own life.
Work with what you have. Do what you love and love what you do. Life
is your own, so own it!
PHILOSOPHY, FROM THE MIND OF
THE YOUNG
Adam Theriault
I have always wondered what some people think. Everybody has
their own point of view. Everyone perceives things differently. Not
everything is as it seems. Definition of philosophy:
1.The logical study of truths and laws of beliefs.
2.Your personal set of governing statements.
3. A practical rule of set of rules.
Hence the philosophy page. With this happy note, I will leave you
to ponder these words of wisdom ^.^
“Without friends, no one would want to live, even if he had
all other goods.”-Aristotle
“Not all who wander are lost.”-J.R.R Tolkien
“Give me a lever long enough and I will raise the Earth.”-Archimedes
“At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.”-Plato
“The answer is only half the answer.”-Adam Theriault

What is the best comfort food after a break up or fight?

the Persian Empire, where they
dumped snow and grape juice together to cool off on a hot day. Eventually, different generations began
to dump new ingredients in their bowls, gradually forming into the treat loved worldwide. As the saying goes, ice cream warms the heart.
However, ice cream is not only just a delicious dessert. It
can also determine your personality and the person you are
most compatible with simply by identifying your favorite
ice cream flavor. This is called flavorology.
What does your favorite ice cream flavor say about
you?
Butter Pecan: You’re dubbed as a ‘perfect worker’. You
are devoted, respectful and very optimistic. You’re very
competitive and aggressive in sports. You have the takecharge type of personality that any good leader needs. Your
romantic compatibility match would be those who prefer
mint chocolate chip.
Chocolate Chip: You are a generous person, competitive and satisfied.
You’re very charming in social situations and also quite ambitious. You have
no problem giving up your time and money, if it’s for a good cause. Your romantic compatibility match is someone who prefers the ice cream flavor of
butter pecan or chocolate.
Chocolate: You are a lively person, creative, and very dramatic. You charm
everyone you meet with your enthusiasm and sense of style. You enjoy being
the center of attention and prefer to be around friends than to be alone. In romantic relationships, you require lots of attention from your mate and excitement. You are romantically compatible with someone who prefers the flavors of butter pecan or chocolate chip.
Coffee: You are lively, dramatic, and very flirty. You put a lot of energy into everything you do but
tend to get over committed. You often end up starting new projects without finishing your previous
ones. You get bored easily by dull relationships and thrive on new and exciting adventures. Your romantic compatibility is someone who prefers the flavor of strawberry ice cream.
Mint Chocolate Chip: You are very ambitious and confident but, you can get very skeptical about
life. You are constantly preparing for your future, needing a solid plan to feel secure. You are very
stubborn and can make business and romantic relationships very challenging. Aside from that, you are
very loyal, honest and dependable. These characteristics create long friendships and close family ties.
Your romantic compatibility is with other mint chocolate chip lovers.
Rocky Road: You’re a social butterfly, often engaging in social situations. In the business world, you
are very aggressive and set lots of goals. You enjoy the simple things in life and respond best to encouragement rather than criticism. Your romantic compatibility is with other Rocky Road lovers.
Strawberry: You are a thoughtful, logical person who thinks carefully before making a decision. You
tend to be more of a follower than a leader and don’t like being the center of attention. You are very
shy and do not open up very often. You are easily upset and made to feel guilty or cranky because of
your low self esteem. Your romantic compatibility are those who prefer the flavors of: strawberry,
Rocky Road, mint chocolate chip and vanilla.
Vanilla: Nothing is plain about vanilla. You are actually a dramatic risk taker who is contingent on
thinking with their gut rather than being logical. You emotionally express yourself and set high goals
for yourself and push yourself to meet them. When it comes to romance, you rely on secure relationships that fill your emotional needs while working on future objectives. You’re compatible with those
who prefer the ice cream flavor of Rocky Road.

Sexual assault is a large problem in today's American society. Over 207,000
women 12 years and older have been
raped, or sexually assaulted yearly in the
United States. Forty four percent [44%]
of the victims are under 18 years of age,
while eighty percent [80%] are under the
age of 30. Every two minutes someone in the US is sexually assaulted.
Each year there are about 213,000 victims of sexual assault, Sixty percent
[60%] of sexual assaults are not reported
to the police, and 15 out of 16 rapists will

16-19 are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault. In 2010 there were 84,767 reported sexual assaults, a five percent drop from 2009.
A women born in South Africa has a greater chance of being raped than learning how to read. It is estimated that over 500,000 rapes are committed yearly
in South Africa. A 2010 study led by the government-funded Medical Research
Foundation [MRF] showed that in Gauteng province, more than thirty-seven percent

Sometimes things don’t go the
way you expect them to go. The good
thing about that is that sometimes
this bend in the road can take you to a better and more interesting place. Recently, as
a writer/reporter for the Galaxy News, I attempted to write a story but was told that it
was bad press and was not allowed to continue it. Naturally I was upset, especially
since I had already interviewed many people for the article.
Later at the Galaxy News, I was
advised to take a different road, one
that would be difficult but interesting
and much more important. That road
led me to write about censorship. Censorship is something that affects pretty
much everyone. It is being told that
you cannot write or say something because someone else doesn’t find it suitable or they just don’t like it. This happens regularly to authors and reporters, and it seems to happen a lot in school environments. If you were not already aware of it, the Constitution of the United States
gives Americans the inalienable right to freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
To simplify, that means that citizens are granted the right to say and write what they
choose. Many school boards, university leaders, and news editors have used their
power to restrict these freedoms.
For years,
books have been banned all over the world because of people who are “higher” than
the rest of us. Some of these books are very well known including Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll ( banned in china because it portrayed animals acting with the
same complexity as humans, which to them was an insult.), Black Beauty by Anna
Sewell (banned in South Africa for having the word black in its title.), the Bible
(Banned in dozens of countries because of religion.), Brave New World by Aldous
Huxley (banned in Catholic churches, Australia, and New Zealand because of its sexual content.), The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank (Banned in Lebanon for portraying Jews, Israel, or Zionism favorably.), Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (Banned
in South Africa for containing “indecent” material.), The Grapes of Wrath by John
Steinbeck (Banned in many places in the U.S. including California for its supposedly
unflattering portrayal of area residents.) and finally Green Eggs and Ham by Dr.
Seuss (temporarily banned in China because it was contrary to their beliefs.). Banning books is a form of censorship that in most cases is not necessary and occurs often.
Censorship rears its ugly head in many
different situations. Politics, schools, libraries, court rooms are all places where free
thought has been denied and the victims of censorship are left frustrated if not powerless. This problem can only be improved by people who have a sense of determination, who have experienced the issue first hand, and have a deep understanding of the
effect it has on people.

Lots
of
people
just
think graffi is
mindless vandalism and property damage. It can
be. But a lot of times it is not.
“Despite what they say, graffi is not the lowest
form of art. Although you might have to creep
about at night and lie to your mom, it’s actually
one of the more honest art forms available.”–
Banksy. Graffi started in the late 1960’s and is still going strong.
Birth and Evoluon
If we define graffi as any type of writing on a wall, then its birth
goes all the way back to ancient Rome. If drawn images count,
then we could point to the first graffiti artists. But if we’re talking about the
style of urban graffi that most people have seen, the kind that uses spray cans,
that was born from the New York City subway trains in the late 1960’s. Taki 183
worked as a messenger who traveled throughout the city. While he did so, he
would use a marker and write his name wherever he went, at subway stations
and the insides and outsides of subway cars. He influenced kids all over New
York, in a New York Times interview, to write their names on/in the subway station/cars. The goal was to get their names in as many places as possible, and as
kids competed against each other to get famous, the amount of graffi on trains
exploded!
Tagging and More
For tagging on the insides of trains, permanent markers worked, but spray paint
quickly became popular as well, especially for tagging on the outside of trains.
Graffi became so much more than simple tagging, however. Graffi writers, in
addition to getting their name around as much as possible, would try to outdo
each other in terms of style. At first, writers would try to make their tags (or signatures) more stylish than anyone else's. Later on, they would add more colors,
special effects, and they'd make their name bigger. Spray cans allowed huge
pieces of graffi to be created fairly quickly which was important because writers didn't want to get caught by the police or people working for the MTA
(Metropolitan Transit Authority). Graffi really evolved into a complex art form
with its own techniques and vocabulary. From simple tags on the insides of
trains to masterpieces that spanned multiple subway cars, the art and science of
graffi grew in leaps and bounds.

Le Panier is a small French bakery located in the streets of Pike Place Market. Although the bakery is very crowded, it is well worth the wait.
They offer French macaroons, meringues, croissants, éclairs, and even
more French pastries you can think of. During my visit, I bought the best seller French
macaroons, in café, vanilla, chocolate, citron, and more mouth watering flavors. Little,
yet sweet, with flavors bursting in your mouth; crunchy, yet soft, it was the first and best macaroon I ate. I also bought the éclairs, which come in café, chocolate, and other flavors too. A
little hot dog sized sausage, with sweet cream filling, it also topped the bar. I would definitely
visit the bakery again and try other pastries as well.

1. Funny in Farsi- In 1972, seven year old Firoozeh Dumoas and her family,
move all the way from Iran to southern California. Having no knowledge
about America, this big change begins an unforgettable and humorous journey as they get
used to their new home. Soon, enough, more family from Iran follows them, and live totally different life too. Firoozeh’s father is an engineer and dreamer. Her mother is elegant and has never fully
mastered English. And of course Firooseh herself, eventually changed her name to Julie, This is an
adventure full of culture-shock, courage comedy and growth
2. Speak- Melinda Sordino is an outcast. And the start of ninth grade becomes terrible for her. She totally wrecked an end of summer party when she called the cops, but… absolutely no-one knows
why. Now, everyone laughs behind her back, treats her the lowest of low. They avoid her, hate
her…even her best friend who’s also her only friend talks behind her back. Sadness traps and surrounds her; the only choice she has to male everything change by now, is to finally unravel the real
truth about what happened to that party. This is the only way to get out of this mess. The truth after
all is the real key.
3. The Help-Three ordinary women, about to take a shocking risk in 1962 Jackson, Mississippi. This
risk may astonishingly change their lives forever, though, and it is incredibly worth it. Aibileen is a
black maid , raising her seventeenth white child. Her friend Minny, another black maid. Has not
held onto a job for long, but it is working for a newcomer with secrets that astonish Minny. Skeeter
has just returned from college with no husband... Which highly disappoints her mother of course.
Together these three friends work on a jaw dropping project
that could literally change their lives….forever. This is a
Maya Prouty
story of true courage and conviction
4. The Hunger Games- In what used to be North America,
their lies a very unjust and cruel capitol called Panem. Every year, the event of the hunger games occur, and that is
where one boy and one girl between the ages 12 and 18 are
required to fight to the death. When 16-year old Katniss
Everdeen comes to the realization that she has to do this in
her sister’s place, she regards it as death sentence. Can she
do it? Will she be able to make all these choices weighing
life against love and survival against humanity? In my estimation, this is s thriller that keeps the reader on the edge of
their seats.
5. Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie- Steven (mostly) live
a normal life. He plays drums in all city jazz bands, has a
crush on the prettiest girl in school, and always seems to be
irritated by his younger brother, Jeffrey. Jeffrey gets really
ill, and this turns Stevens’s life upside down. Can Steven
handle all of this going on in his life? Considering homework, band, girls, and dangerous pie? (and if you’re not
sure what dangerous pie is, read the book) This is a story
that reveals the power of love.

Come with me, and we'll build a machine.
Our machine shall transform man to deity.
And they shall ascend above all of the cosmos
and above time and above their own insight-everything they shall see!
We'll place this gear and twist this screw,
then we run it-- and it works as new!
We can see the gray human hubris
swooping down upon the colors of the Earth.
Now life is a monochrome hue.
We can see in the distance, like a billow of thunder,
our plan to sovereignize man has been botched, gone under.
Rather than ruling, the humans are ruled
by a vice so great it cannot live-in fact death is its armor.
The quest for the illusion of power spawns havoc.
Their human nature's as complex as a clock,
seeming so sophisticated with its parts and
yet easy to predict, monotonous in thought.
They are, in a word, stark.
Is this what human life must come to?
Could we make a machine that could renew
the black and lifeless life they live?
Or must they endure the tunnel of doom that ambition
will soon lead them to?
