PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
SHOWCASE
Once again NLSPS has excelled. Teachers and students are amazing. Full credit goes to you the parents as you are the ones who
develop those amazing children and allow us to share in and guide their education and learning experiences. Showcase is fun and
hard work but really worth the time spent to ensure children enjoy the opportunity to shine in front of an appreciative audience.
Last night proved what we all know – NLS rules! Well done everyone. I hope that you enjoyed the photos in the program and those
available for sale. We will not be posting these photos on the website so please make sure you order if you want one and were not
able to take one home with you last night. We are taking orders for photographs until Friday this week – please see the office for
further information.
There are so many teachers to thank – as all have given up their time and contributed as part of the great team of staff that we have
at our school. Mrs Campbell was the coordinator and artistic director of the Showcase and her expertise ensured the
professionalism of the night. Many thanks Mrs Campbell. Thank you to every other staff member as without each of you the night
would have been just that much less.
NAPLAN
The results for students in Year 3 and Year 5 who sat the Naplan Tests this year are expected to be available to parents on Monday
th
16 September and should be home to parents during that week. Teachers anxiously await these results too as they guide

evaluation of our teaching and learning programs. In the weeks following the release of results, teachers analyse these and use the
teaching strategies suggested for students who did not perform as well as expected to guide the programming for Term 4 and Term
1 2014.
ETHICS UPDATE
Natalie Sutherland is almost finished her coordinator course in Primary Ethics and asked me to address possible concerns from
parents who are considering volunteering to teach Ethics but are put off due to their own fear that they will be sent in to class to ad
lib on heavy philosophical questions. Natalie has spoken to Primary Ethics about the very structured nature of the curriculum and
parents should feel assured that they will receive training and support. Please don’t let these concerns hold you back. Talk to Natalie
– contact the office and ask Natalie to give you a ring. We really do need your support to get this off the ground.
CANCER COUNCIL DONATION
The morning tea held by the P&C for Daffodil Day and the raffle of the huge Toblerone chocolate raised $500. The chocolate was
won by Lily Macdonald of 5/6D.
A cheque for this amount will be sent to the Cancer Council this week from the P&C and NLSPS. Thanks to everyone who supported
this event.
SCHOOL APP
I wrote last week suggesting that you go to the school website and save the website to your phone home page so that you will have
ready access to our school information and Newsflash. We have purchased an app from Skoolbags and it is available via the Google
apps for Android or Apple App Store for iPhone products. The benefit of the app is that there will be push notifications available so
you will get reminders of events etc. This is new territory for us so bear with us as we navigate our way to ensure this technology
provides the best communication possible for you our parent community. Any suggestions warmly welcome!
This week we are training to learn how our website and app link so within a few weeks we should have a good product. More
information soon.
SATURDAY MARKETS ON SITE?
I have been approached by the local Rotary club to host a monthly Saturday Market (last Saturday of the month 8am – 1pm). The
market is currently at New Lambton PS and is not well attended – perhaps not good enough visibility? They are looking to move.
The Rotary would like to work in partnership with us and develop this market into a community market with a definite community
feel – they want good quality stalls for new/handmade items and they want to offer our school the opportunity to make a little
money and use the market to promote the school. Suggestions include allowing us to run a BBQ on any of the dates, have a P&C
stall, have our children perform during the market or run fund raisers as we consider appropriate (eg a garden stall etc). The Rotary
want a partnership where they can contribute to our school in lots of ways so this sounds like a win-win for us. I have spoken to
some of the P&C about this and to teachers. I will be outlining this at the next P&C meeting before going ahead but at this stage all
feedback seems good. Please let me know what you think about this idea for our school.
PRINCIPALS MORNING TEA
I am really looking forward to spending time with this term’s School Awardees. The absolute pleasure I get from spending quality
time with our wonderful students is hard to explain. For some reason the children really appreciate this invitation and are so happy
during the short time feasting on the wonderful spread prepared by Mrs Edwards and her canteen helpers. I will hold two separate
morning teas on Wednesday so that I do have time to spend with each child individually and so that they have a seat around the
staff room table. If your child is near to receiving the School Award but has missed out this term, then they will be included in the
morning tea event in Term 4.
KINDERGARTEN ZOO EXCURSION
I know the Kindergarten children will absolutely love the excursion to the zoo with teachers and their friends from Kindergarten.
Some parents do feel anxious allowing their child to leave head off alone (ie without parents) but I can assure you the children will
be well cared for. This excursion has been part of the Kindergarten agenda at NLSPS for some time and the children always report
that they have a great day and learn many things. They love to feel grown up travelling to Sydney with their classmates.

families and reduce our environmental footprint. Please return this form to the office by Friday 16 August.
If you have recently changed your email address, please contact the office.
PLEASE NOTE from the start of Term 4, no hard copy of Newsflash will be given to students unless a formal request is received for a
hard copy. All parents who supply email addresses will get an email reminder. Others will need to remember to check our website
weekly.
If you download the free phone app and set up your phone to receive push notifications for the newsflash, you will have access that
way too.
KINDERGARTEN ZOO EXCURSION
Kindergarten may be tired after the Showcase, but they're excited also as we're off to the zoo this Thursday. A reminder to parents
to meet under the hall COLA at 6.45am. Children need to be in full school uniform with comfortable walking shoes and a hat. They
will need a small bag (not their big school bag) with lunch, afternoon and morning tea as well as a drink/s. Please limit the
containers. Some rain is predicted so please pack a lightweight raincoat/poncho. If your child gets travel sick, please advise their
teacher in the morning and give them medication if necessary. This medication needs to be labelled and handed to the class teacher
for administration before we leave to come home. If you have registered your email address with the front office, you will receive
an email advising you of our safe arrival at the zoo and also an expected arrival time back at school. We will tell you all about our
trip in next week’s newsflash.

CHESS NEWS
Big Congratulations to our Kings team! Kings have played an outstanding season and are well rewarded by heading off to the
Regional Final this week at Singleton Heights PS. A win here could see the boys heading off to Sydney to play in the state knock out
finals. Good luck boys. Knights and Rookies have also played well and will finish off the season on 17th September. Good luck and
have fun!

TRANSPORT FOR CHESS TEAMS
I am urgently seeking anyone who would be able to help transport our Chess teams next Tuesday 17th September. Knights will play
at Belair and Rookies will play at St Joseph's Charlestown. Both rounds kick off at 9:30am. It will be a great shame for New Lambton
South Public School to forfeit these games as we have fought back strongly this year to regain top honours in the region. If you can
help please phone the school office ASAP.

SCHOOL BANKING UPDATE: REDEEM YOUR TOKENS FOR A MONEYBOX THIS YEAR!
In 2014 the School Banking program will be launching a new set of exciting reward items for students to redeem their tokens for.
Each reward item will continue to be valued at 10 tokens (i.e. 10 deposits) and there will be two new reward items for students to
choose from each term.
With exciting new reward items on offer in 2014, please be aware that the Dollarmites moneyboxes will no longer be available
next year. To avoid any child missing out on claiming their moneybox, please let your children know of this change and encourage
them to redeem their moneybox this school year.
In an effort to ensure your child doesn’t miss out, the rule of one money box per year has been removed. If your child is trying to
collect the series of Dollarmite moneyboxes, they are encouraged to do so before the end of the school year. Please understand
that they still need to redeem each moneybox for the required 10 tokens.
BANKING DAY IS WEDNESDAY.
KD NEWS
WOW! What a proud teacher I am after last night’s showcase performance. The students did an amazing job and looked as though
they loved being on the stage. The zoo excursion is this Thursday. Remember to be at school at 6.45am and please make sure your
child brings a light backpack/bag as they will be required to carry it around all day. They will need food, drink, hat, medication, if
needed eg puffer and a light raincoat. Please advise me if your child gets travel sickness. It will be a wonderful day with I’m sure a lot
of stories to tell. Just a reminder, no homework or readers till next term.
KG NEWS
Well done Stage 2 on your outstanding performance at the School Showcase! We can now finally return to some normal class
routine for the final week and a half of Term 3. Despite the last weeks being so busy our class has worked hard to complete a
narrative and description writing assessment so we will now focus on finishing our class novel and doing some reading
comprehension tasks related to it. In Maths we are finishing off chance and data and will soon move on to fractions. Keep up the
great work 3/4E!

Wow what a performance!!! The performances that were put on by the students at our school last night were amazing. We have
such talented students at our school. Last night was a credit to each of them. They have been working so hard in their CAPA groups
at school and all of that hard work paid off. I am so proud of every student who got up on the stage, smiled and had a go. We are
very lucky teachers to work with such an amazing group of students. Well done everyone!!!
1W NEWS
WOW! What a fantastic Showcase... well done everyone on your performances and all of your hard work in preparing for an
amazing show! You were all fantastic!
Only two more weeks left of Term 3 and we are all still working so hard. During the next two weeks we will be finishing up our units

who are attending the Principal's Morning Tea tomorrow. Our other upcoming events include Father's Sports afternoon, a visit to
the Life Education Centre and our school disco!!
Don't forget homework is due this Friday. I will be sending home a schedule this week for which days the children will be performing
their experiments for the class. Each child will be given a day in Week 10 so they are able to come prepared on that day with any
materials or resources they may need. We are all looking forward to this very much!
Have a great week everyone...
2CN AND 20 NEWS
This week is a very busy week for us. After a late night last night stunning our parents with our great talents we are busy at school
today preparing for our visit tomorrow to see Emily Eyefinger. Everyone is very excited about seeing the show in the beautiful Civic
theatre and catching the train in to town. We will be having an early lunch on Wednesday before we leave for the show so we ask
that students ordering their lunch, order sandwiches instead of hot food to help the canteen fill our early orders.
A reminder please that all students attending the show are to wear full school uniform.
3M NEWS
What talented and entertaining students we have at New Lambton South. Congratulations to each and every student on what was a
phenomenal Showcase experience. To 3M, well done!! Over the past term you have practiced with patience and continued to
preserve in what was a hard to master, yet sensational act. Thank you to all the parents and carers who supported 3M and we hope
you enjoyed the show as much as we did.
