Where in the BOCES world ...
...would you find a team of super computer technicians upgrading
more than 800 computers?
At any of our 22 sites completing the biggest computer upgrades in the agency’s
history.
This team of techies has been to almost every computer in the entire agency to
upgrade them to Office 2010 and Windows 7. But it took lots of behind the scenes
night and weekend work to get to this point.
“The biggest part of this project was what went on before the technicians even
reached your desk,” says Cliff Steinberg, Chief Information Officer for the agency.
“There was a tremendous amount of work on the back end for an upgrade that is
this complex, and I think it’s been a pretty seamless process so far.”
Just about everyone has been upgraded to Office 2010 and Windows 7, which
means the next phase – the switch to Outlook – is not far behind.
A big thank you to everyone involved especially those pictured on the front

at Employee Recognition Day

Dreaper, along with other long time
employees Ronald Vitello and Willie
Porter, from the Facilities Department,
both marking 40 years with the

Employee Recognition Day celebration
held at the Long Island High School
for the Arts.
This year, 247 staffers from across
the agency celebrated a combined
5,060 years of service.

honored at Farber
Awards ceremony
Eighteen students from a variety of
Nassau BOCES programs earned the
George Farber Outstanding Student
Award and were recognized at a
ceremony at the Nassau BOCES
Long Island High School for the Arts.
Students garner the award for
academic achievements, perseverance,
enthusiasm and willingness to help
others.
“I can think of no more fitting
tribute than to recognize these
students who, like George Farber, will
prove to be the best ambassadors for
Nassau BOCES as they go forward
in life,” said District Superintendent
Dr. Thomas Rogers in his welcoming
remarks at the ceremony.
Created in 2007, the award program
is named for our former Nassau
BOCES Board President. Farber’s
passion and drive for improving the
lives of students at Nassau BOCES was
only surpassed by his love and care for
them. What’s more, he was the longestserving board member in the county,
serving from 1971 to 2009.
