2013 Children & Families 6th Annual Family Fun Beach Run/Walk

More than 200 youth and their families participated in the 6th Annual Communities In Schools Family Fun
Beach Run presented by Florida Public Utilities on October 19th at Peter's Point on Amelia island.
Over 30 CIS volunteers and generous community donations helped to make this event a success, and enabled
every child to participate free of charge in this county-wide family fun event, receiving a T-shirt, dinner,
beverage, Olympic style medal and door prizes.
Key community sponsors this year, included: Rick Keffer Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep, The Fernandina Beach NewsLeader, Nassau County Record, Rock Tenn, The Journey Church, Kohl's Associates in Action, Omni Resorts,
Jean Pitcher, Baker's Sporting Goods, Judith B. O'Brien, Courson and Stam, Betz Veterinary Services, Sonny's
Real Pit Bar-B-Q, Harris Teeter, Ed Hardee, Big O Productions, Amelia Island Runners, Club 14 Fitness and
Lowe's.
Participation awards of $1,000 and $500 were awarded St. Michael's Academy and Callahan Middle School
this year to be used for healthy lifestyle initiatives at their school.
Communities In Schools of Nassau County, Inc. is a private non-profit agency dedicated to surrounding our
youth with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Over 5,000 youth
ages 11-18 at six Nassau county schools have access to CIS large-group, walk-in, one-time, and referral services
each year, including academic remediation, career exploration, and healthy lifestyle decisions. Six hundred
youth receive more sustained and intensive case management services each year through referral by parents,
guardians, school guidance, or other agencies.
CIS Nassau program site directors and student service coordinators are assigned to schools sites where they
