annual red ribbon campaign. Mr. Zahakos
will attend a press conference scheduled for
10 am. Co-op vehicles will be also be present at the announcement.
The second event that is scheduled for
November is a ‘Choose Your Ride,’ event that
will be held at Yonge Dundas Square on
November 8 from 12-2 p.m. Co-op Cabs staff and MADD Toronto volunteers will be on hand to guide people
through the various ways Torontonians can choose to get home this holiday season. The best option of
course, is the TTC or a cab and not the ambulance, hearse or crashed car that will also be on site.

Release of the Toronto Taxi Review postponed
The Taxicab Industry Review Final Report is being rescheduled to the Licensing and Standards Committee
meeting being held on January 23, 2014.
A number of consultations have been held since the release of the draft report in the spring of 2013. The taxi
industry has serious concerns with many of the recommendations in the draft report and so further
consultations were required. The city has proposed gradually transitioning three types of taxi licenses into a
single Toronto Taxicab License.
The Toronto Taxi Alliance (TTA), of which Co-op is a member recently launched a campaign to inform citizens
on the impact these reforms will have on riders if they are passed at city council next year. Members of the
group include taxi owners, drivers, brokerages, fleets and agents and say the reforms can have a direct
impact on how the industry runs its business.
Below is a copy of the media advisory that went out to announce the campaign:

Mass campaign to call on Torontonians to speak out against higher fares, increased wait times and pollution
and greater safety risks
TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - October 21, 2013 On Tuesday, the Toronto Taxi Alliance (TTA) will launch a
campaign to educate Torontonians about what's at stake for taxi users in Toronto if a series of proposed taxi reforms
are passed by Toronto City Council next month. Media are invited to attend the launch press conference.
Taxicab Industry Review, which is being conducted by City of Toronto Staff features 44 reforms including: a mandate
to make 100 per cent of taxis wheelchair accessible by 2025, the introduction of a new Vehicle Identity Technology
(VIT) and the introduction of a new owner-operated plate called the Toronto Taxi License (TTL). The Final Report
with recommendations for the taxicab industry is expected to be presented to City Council in November.
