AIR FLT #441 at 12:30 pm.
Day 2: Wed, Aug 31 – CHITOSE. Arrive Chitose International Airport at 5:00 pm.
After entry formalities, walk to your hotel located within the terminal. A bento
dinner will be provided. AIR TERMINAL HOTEL (1 Night) (D)
Day 3: Thur, Sep 1 – CHITOSE – LAKE SHIKOTSU – NOBORIBETSU ONSEN.
After breakfast we head out for a full day of sightseeing. Lake Shikotsu
is located in southwestern Hokkaido, west of the city of Chitose. It is a crater
lake that was formed over 40,000 years ago by volcanic acitivity, and it has a
maximum depth of 363 meters, making it the second deepest lake in Japan.
Next we stop at a local restaurant and enjoy a Salmon Teppanyaki Lunch.
We continue our journey to the town of Shiraoi, visiting Porotokotan
(Shiraoi Ainu Museum), an outdoor reproduction of an Ainu Village. Enjoy a
traditional Ainu song and dance performance. Jigokudani or “Hell Valley” is
a spectacular, appropriately named valley just above the town of Noboribetsu
Onsen, which displays hot steam vents, sulfurous streams and other volcanic
activity. It is a main source of Noboribetsu’s hot spring waters. This evening enjoy
a soak in the hot springs and enjoy a Gourmet “All You Can Eat” Crab and
Seafood Buffet. HOTEL MAHOROBA (1 Night) (B, L, D)
Day 4: Fri, Sep 2 – NOBORIBETSU ONSEN – OTARU. Today we visit Otaru,
which served as a major trade and fishing port in the 1800s. The Otaru Canal
makes for a pleasant stroll. Stops at Kitaichi Glass Company will delight your
eyes with beautiful creations. We will stop at the Otaru Music Box Museum
to make our very own music box. Top off the day with a ride on the Tenguyama
Ropeway to the top of Mt. Tengu. Drink in the panoramic views of Otaru and
Ishikari Gulf stretching below you. Your hotel this evening is located on the
tranquil canal. During the heyday of herring fishing, large Herring Mansions
(Nishin Goten) were built by wealthy fishermen. This evening you’re in for
a real treat! A multi-course gourmet dinner experience at a genuine,
Nishin-Goten. HOTEL NORD OTARU (1 Night) (B, D)
041116
Day 5: Sat, Sep 3 – OTARU – SAPPORO. Now we make way to Sapporo. First
we stop at the Susukino Shopping Area for a lunch break at the famous
Ramen Alley (lunch on own). Sapporo Beer has been brewed in Sapporo
since 1877. The Sapporo Beer Museum opened in 1987 in a former brewery
from the Meiji Period. Enjoy refreshing beer tasting. Spectacular views from
the top of Mount Okura. The 90 meter ski jump competitions of the Winter
Olympics 1972 were held in the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium. Nowadays,
when the stadium is not being used for World Cup or other ski jump events,
the Okurayama Observatory at the top of the hill is accessed via a chair lift
for spectacular views of Sapporo. Today we also visit a COSTCO Membership
Store. An amazing variety of gifts can be found here! Enjoy dinner at local
restaurant. SAPPORO CENTURY ROYAL HOTEL (2 Nights) (B, D)
Day 6: Sun, Sep 4 – SAPPORO. Full Day at Leisure. Enjoy some shopping time
at Tanuki Koji Shopping Arcade, the largest and oldest shopping mall in
Sapporo. A long covered shopping arcade which houses over 200 shops. (B)
Day 7: Mon, Sep 5 – SAPPORO – BIEI – ASAHIKAWA. The Blue Pond
outside the hot spring town of Shirogane Onsen is named after its deep blue
color, which it owes to natural minerals dissolved in the water. Next visit Tomita
Farm, famous for the flower fields, has cafes and shops that sell a wide range of
lavender related products. The panoramic flower gardens of “Shikisai-no-oka”
provide spectacular views across the hills of the Biei area. HOTEL CRESCENT
ASAHIKAWA (1 Night) (B, L, D)
Day 8: Tue, Sep 6 – ASAHIKAWA – SOUNKYO ONSEN. First stop is at the
Michi-no-Eki Asahikawa, a shopper’s paradise. Enjoy a bowl of famous
Asahikawa Ramen. Next we stop at the Otokoyama Sake Brewery for a quick
tour and tasting of sake and other tasty products. Our destination for the day is
Sounkyo, a hot sprIng resort nestled in the middle of Sounkyo Valley. Enjoy a
relaxing soak in the hot springs onsen and a sumptuous dinner buffet at
your hotel. SOUNKYO CHOYO RESORT HOTEL (1 Night) (B, L, D)
Day 9: Wed, Sep 7 – SOUNKYO ONSEN – KITAMI – ABASHIRI. This morning,
we’ll enjoy a visit to Ginga Ryusei Waterfall. The word “Ginga” means “the
Milky Way” and the word “Ryusei” means “a shooting star”. It was peppermint
that built Kitami’s economy in the early days. During the peak production in
1938/1939, Kitami’s peppermint accounted for approximately 70% of the global
market and became globally recognized as a special produce of Kitami and of
Japan. We arrive in Abashiri and visit Abashiri Prison. This evening enjoy a
special seasonal Kaiseki – Multi-course Traditional Japanese dinner.
ABASHIRI KOSO HOTEL (1 Night) (B, L, D)
Day 10: Thur, Sep 8 – ABASHIRI – LAKE AKAN – TOKACHIGAWA. Today
we’re in for a real treat! The sightseeing boat around Lake Akan is Akan’s most
popular tour. From the boat you can see the unspoiled primitive forest that
shows natural beauty in each season. At the Spherical Moss Exhibition and
Observation Center on Churui Island, you can see the real Moss Ball known
as Marimo, a natural treasure in Japan. Lake Onneto is about 25 minute drive
from Lake Akan and part of Akan National Park. While it isn’t as famous
with tourists as some of the other lakes in the area like Lake Mashu or Lake
Akan, it certainly should be! This evening soak your body in the healing hot
springs of Tokachigawa and enjoy a bountiful Farewell Buffet Dinner of local
and seasonal vegetables and other specialties. KANGETSUEN HOTEL (Onsen)
(1 Night) (B, L, D)
Day 11: Fri, Sep 9 – TOKACHIGAWA – CHITOSE AIRPORT – HONOLULU.
Morning at leisure. One last shopping stop at the AEON MALL before checking
in for our flight home. Depart via HAWAIIAN AIR FLT # 442 at 8:00 pm. Arrive
Honolulu, same day at 8:55 am. Aloha and Welcome Home! (B)
