Chantilly, attended by more than 170
guests. The event also raised $500 in
cash and an overflowing box of toys for

"Green" Building Practices
The Green Building Committee hosted its 2nd Annual Green Building
Expo at Tart Lumber Design Center on November 6, attended by
nearly 60 guests and featuring two educational sessions and 10 green
vendors. It was a great success, Co-Chair Andy Moore said, thanks to
all who attended and spoke: Brad Pearson from Triad discussed
indoor air quality, while Andy Corral from Elysian Energy spoke about

"It was a great opportunity for likeminded
'green' building types to get together for
an honest and open exchange of
information and ideas," Moore added.
"Please join the Green Building
Committee on the first Wednesday of
every month at 9:00 a.m. to experience
what we do firsthand. No experience is
necessary and all are welcome!"
Due to the New Years holiday in January,
the Green Building Committee's next
meeting will be held on Wednesday,
February 12 at 9:00 a.m. at the NVBIA
office and will feature speaker Girard John Gurick, who will present an
overview and answer questions about PACE (Property Assessed
Clean
Energy).

Loudoun Chapter Ushers in Fall Season in
Style
Hero Sponsors
The Loudoun County chapter celebrated a very successful Fall Event
in September, held at Willowsford at The Lodge at Willows Lake. A
severe thunderstorm couldn't even dampen the spirits of a large and
enthusiastic crowd of almost 100 people, who enjoyed an amazing
dinner featuring organic, farm-fresh food harvested from
Willowsford's own farm and prepared by Culinary Director Bonnie
Moore, former sous chef at the Inn at Little Washington. After the
storm clouds cleared, NVBIA President Mark Trostle led several
rousing games of bocce ball and horseshoes on the clubhouse
courts.

McLean Insurance Raises $20,000 for
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
NVBIA member
McLean
Insurance
Agency helped
raise $20,000 for
The Leukemia &
Lymphoma
Society to fight
blood cancer at
the Third Annual
Carz Cruizin to
Cure Cancer , a
yearly fundraiser presented by the Agency. This year's event
featured more than 100 classic, antique, sports and custom cars,
trucks and motorcycles, which were on display and judged by a
highly experienced group of concours judges. The fundraiser was
held in Potomac Falls, Va., and attended by hundreds of spectators.
Pictured are Doug Megill, McLean Insurance Agency, presenting a
$20,000 check to Katie Goode (left) and Caroline Moulton (middle) of
the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
McLean Insurance Agency, with the help of numerous volunteers
and sponsors, organizes the annual event to honor the memory of its
founder, Henry C. Megill, Jr., who battled a rare form of lymphoma
for several years before passing away in 1990. Each year, funds
raised by Carz Cruizin to Cure Cancer are donated to help the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which is the world's largest
voluntary (non-profit) health organization dedicated to funding blood
cancer research and providing education and patient services.
Throughout the event, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company and
Rescue Squad also demonstrated Jaws of Life equipment on a 2012
Volkswagen Passat, donated in April by Herndon-based Volkswagen
Group of America to the SVFC for educational and service training
purposes.
Major corporate sponsors included Volkswagen Group, Konica
Minolta, Chubb Insurance, Encompass, Patriot National Insurance,
Raymond James Financial and Tom Sadowski Design.
