Summer 2011
June “Chat” Recap – NFCU Tour
On Wednesday, June 15, 2011, our “What’s
Up!” Breakfast Chat was held at the largest Credit
Union in the world, Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU),
and it was a huge success! Jamie McDonald,
Assistant Vice President, Projects & Analysis, Greater
Pensacola Operations, Elizabeth Hayes, Interior
Design Manager and Valerie Palmer, Events
Coordinator, did a fantastic job of presenting and
organizing this impressive tour. It was awe inspiring to
see these beautiful buildings and wonderful
workspaces!
Jamie McDonald began by giving the NAIOP
group a background brief, which included several
important aspects of NFCU and the facility. The
campus has four buildings of which three are LEED
Gold Certified and NFCU recently submitted the
required paperwork for certification to U.S. Green
Building Council on the newest building, expecting a
gold rating on that building as well. The NFCU campus
consists of 61 acres and already 47 of those buildable
acres have been used.
The campus is named after retired Navy
Federal CEO/President, Brian L. McDonnell. Mr.
McDonnell was responsible for the vision of the facility
in Pensacola. His original dream was to build a facility
that would house 300 employees. Today, NFCU has
1,700 employees with the capacity to house 3,100.
There are 602,000 square feet of office space with a
capacity to house 3,100 employees. Most of the
employees are from Escambia and Santa Rosa
counties, with only 46 employees coming from Navy
Federal’s headquarters in Virginia. The average salary
is $32K/ year.
Jamie told the group that the campus is
essentially a financial operations center with mortgage
processing, consumer lending, and other member
services and not just a call center. She pointed out
that when a member calls, there is a 60% chance of
the call being answered in Pensacola.
One interesting note is that Building Four, the
newest building, is the only building made of concrete.
All the other buildings are steel. When steel prices
began to rise, the team switched gears and went to
concrete to save on cost. The facility has many
amenities for the NFCU employees including a
Starbucks, a gym, volleyball court and walking trails.
It’s no wonder they have such happy employees!
Special thanks to our sponsor – Clark, Partington, Hart,
Larry, Bond & Stackhouse
