Kahumoku ‘Ohana Hawaiian Music & Lifestyle Workshop The Kahumoku ‘Ohana Hawaiian Music & Lifestyle Workshop will be held on Nov. 30 - Dec. 8, 2007 on the Big Island at Pahala Plantation House and Cottages. Masters of Hawaiian music, including recipients of Grammy and Na Hoku Hanohano awards, will teach Slack key, ‘Ukulele, Hawaiian Steel Guitar, Hula, Lei making, Hawaiian Language and Singing. Participants can choose to focus on one discipline or take a variety of classes. The setting is a large historic home and grounds with indoor and outdoor venues in the historic building, on lanai, in pavilions and under the canopy of tropical trees. Integral to the eight days are cuisine and cultural practices including lei making, wreath making, story telling and cooking Hawaiian foods. These optional classes for musicians are also extended to friends and family members through our discounted family plan. The location is near Volcanoes National Park, Punalu‘u Black Sand Beach and Green Sand Beach, offering many activities for those accompanying the participants. John Keawe will teach songwriting and slack key guitar. Sonny Lim will teach slack key and Hawaiian steel guitar. Konabob will teach Hawaiian steel guitar and the Walking Stick Bass. Diana Aki will lead singing sessions on songs of the Big Island. Herb Ohta, Jr. will teach `ukulele and music theory. Keoki Kahumoku will teach slack key and `ukulele. Brittni Paiva will teach ‘ukulele. Jeff Peterson will teach slack key, songwriting and music theory. Leilehua Yuen will teach hula and lei making. Darci Baker will teach Hawaiian language and chorus. Dennis Kamakahi will teach slack key guitar, do storytelling and lead song sessions David Kamakahi will teach ‘ukulele and lead song sessions Liko Puha will teach chanting and Hawaiian language Auntie Diana Aki Konabob The cost of the eight-day workshop is $950, including all meals.
