occupies, a LEED gold three unit four story building,
having been the developer, owner, and architect.
Being involved in the project from the other side of the
development and design process, we have developed
a stronger shared perspective with our clients’ needs.
Strong moments of color, reclaimed materials, and
expansive light and outdoor access both front and
back support well designed open plan interiors.

SPIER CONTEMPORARY

A temporary structure built of shipping containers,
thread created a series of galleries to showcase South
Africa’s contemporary artists. This project was built
with a tight budget and in less than 3 months. The
project allowed thread to understand the possibilities
and limitations of working with shipping containers,
which now have become a much more accepted
architectural language. The containers were primarily
used as building walls, enclosing three tented court
yards, located on abandoned tennis courts.

Located in the heart of SoHo, the Taschen bookstore is a
product of a multi-faceted collaboration. The team included
international and national artists and craftsmen, such as the
brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes, responsible for the graphic
art walls, and La Bruna Studios, who fabricated the
millwork. Highly orchestrated coordination, lead by thread
collective, was critical for the success of the project design
process and construction thread collective acted as the local
architect; Philipe Starck was the concept designer.
