HOW DO I PICK ?
Thread Count
A higher thread count does not mean
a better quality fabric.
Feel, Material, & Weave
Start with feel, then asses the sheets
for their composition and weave.
The Details
Look for strong stitching and always
wash according to the
manufacturer's directions.
Thread count is the sum of the horizontal and
vertical threads in a square inch. A very high thread
count typically tells you that it is a microfiber. In
fact, the maximum thread count is between 450 and
800 depending on the material. Only cottons tend
to have true thread counts. Aim for above 200 but
take anything much higher than 400 with a grain of
salt.
Do you like a soft sheet? A crisp one? Some
materials and weaves, like Egyptian Cotton percale,
have a more course feel and will require ironing.
Others, like lyocell, will be soft and resist wrinkles.
Avoid any type of plastic material, like polyester.
They are neither durable nor breathable.
Durability comes from the composition, the
stitching, and how you care for them. A print may
reduce life. A single layer of stitching on hems will
fray sooner. Not following the washing directions
will dramatically reduce the life of your sheets.
WEAVE
Percale: Under-over weave that is durable and allows for great air flow. This is the most common weave.
Sateen: Silky Finish. Traps some heat. Less prone to wrinkles. Sateen holds dye well due to mercerization.
Flannel: Soft finish. Good at trapping heat.
Microfiber: Can be made from many materials. Microfibers are very thin strands that are woven together to
make a staple. The best microfiber will have a long staple like Egyptian Cotton & be brushed to remove
excess thread.
MATERIALS
Egyptian Cotton: Longest staple. Very durable.
Pima/Supima: Long staple. Name depends on where it is grown.
Tencel/Lyocell: A bamboo or eucalyptus microfiber. Tencel brand is very eco friendly. Excellent for summer.

PILLING
A pill is a portion of thread that is balling up on top of the material but is still attached to the
sheet. They are caused by something snagging on the fabric, like zippers in the wash or rough
heels in bed. Pills are often confused with lint. A little lint is normal. Wash your sheets before use
and use a dryer sheet. Lint clusters are not attached to the sheet. They are the result of small bits
of thread, dust, and other leftovers from the factory.
FIT
You may have noticed that most sheets don't fit as snug as they used to. This is done intentionally
for two reasons: The first being durability. A taught sheet is prone to split at the seams. The
second is the wide variety of mattress depths. There is now such a variety in mattresses that is
just not feasible to make a fitted sheet for each depth. Sheets also need to be flexible so they can
conform to you with the mattress. Come see us with the dimensions of your mattress and we can
help you chose the correct size.
