Salle to close the fellowship dinner and awards night at Oriental
Buffet, Surrey BC.
And it was back to the 3rd event
of the GGames on July 22 with the
10 pin Bowling event at Lois Lane
Alleys in Richmond, BC. It was
another well attended event with
more than 30 bowlers competing
for their respective city teams.
After all the pins were counted,
Team Vancouver was declared
champion with 733 pts surviving a
late rally from Team Richmond who
can only finish with 721 pts. Eric
Arkoncel from Vancouver was the
best player of the event, submitting
a score of 209 pts. in a game.
And as we continue to move
into summer, the celebration continues with the Annual Summer
Picnic on August 13, Saturday,
10:00AM at South Arm Park, Richmond. And as usual, expect a day
of fun with surprise wacky games
to make it more memorable.
The GGames Slow Pitch Baseball event makes a debut during
the summer picnic, with Vancouver and Burnaby combining into
one team and up against the Richmond and Surrey Team. So, aside
from your potluck food for the
picnic, please bring your baseball
gloves and bat with you.

arely off the plane from
Manila, and not showing
any jet lag, award-winning
actor Cesar Montano and popular chanteuse Rachelle Ann Go
charmed their fans at the “Meet
and Greet” and press conference last July 22nd.
The two artists were here in
Vancouver to entertain the following morning and the next day thousands of people attending the Hataw Pinoy Metro Vancouver Summer
Festival at the Forum, PNE complex
in East Vancouver.
The expression “Hataw”, which
is used in many ways, best translates as “Bring it on” or “Come on.
Go for it” - always said in an exuberant manner, enjoining others to
join a lively activity. Indeed “the
Summer Festival is a celebration
of Filipino food and culture,” said
Ms. Faye Nalicat, President of the
Filipino Canadian Marketing Group,
representing GMA Pinoy TV, one of
Hataw Pinoy’s sponsors.
This year the co-organizers were
the Reyfort Media Group and the
Filipino-Canadian Cultural Heritage
Society. The goals of the annual
festival, now on its second year, are
to gather all Filipinos in Vancouver
and have a sense of belonging-

ness, and to raise funds and build

Center in British Columbia.
Ms. Nalicat said the global television network GMA Pinoy TV brought
in Mr. Montano and Ms. Go to draw
people to the event.
Ms. Go, accompanied by her
mother, said it was her fourth time
in Vancouver and said she was very
happy that her friends and fans
have always been welcoming in her
every visit. She was later egged by
the crowd of around 40 people at
the “Meet and Greet” to belt out a
song.
Not to be outdone, Mr. Montano
who is also a singer sang a Boholano love song to the delight of his
province mates. Traveling with his
brother, this was Mr. Montano’s
first time in Vancouver remarking,
“The Filipinos here are very warm.
You have a very clean place here
in Vancouver, maganda at maayos,
and very peaceful compared to
other places I have been to. I am
thinking of coming back here.” Mr.
Montano whose birthday falls on
August 1st said he would be back in
Manila by then.
The “Meet and Greet” took
place at the well-appointed Kumare
