ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Through the parascolaire activities offered at Academie Marie-Claire, your
child can continue to enjoy the benefits of exploring a world of learning that is
stimulating, fun and varied. Students can choose from over a dozen of these
activities throughout the school year. We encourage students to participate in
these where hidden talent can be found and those already developed can be
perfected.
Each year we draw upon the strengths and talents of our staff to put together
the Parascolaire Manual.
Ms. Catherine Desprez reviewed the timeline of the courses and continues to
be an inspiration to all of us. Ms. Zahra Boukersi supported Ms. Desprez in
her efforts and proved to be meticulous and precise in completing her tasks.
Ms. Monica Da Silva & Ms. Jyoti Sood ensured that the manual was
consistent with our expectations.
Extreme gratitude is extended to all of the parascolaire staff who contribute to
the success of the courses year after year. Without their expertise and
professionalism, this service enjoyed by the children could not be as fruitful.
No registrations will be accepted after the specified date.

Lastly, but most importantly, none of this would be possible were it not for the
vision and steadfastness of Madame Marie-Claire Martin. To her, we are
eternally indebted and grateful.

supporting us.
For your benefit, we have outlined the activities, enclosed a registration and
confirmation form for each session and each activity, including other pertinent
information. Registration has to be submitted by the due date with full
payment via automatic withdrawal or in cash or by check made payable to
Académie Marie-Claire. Kindly assist us by submitting a separate check for
each child for each activity.

Parascolaire Description
1.
Salsa
The children will be taught Salsa and other Latin dances, which will
improve their rhythm and co-ordination skills.
Grades:
Grade 1 – 6
Time:
3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
(Grade 1 -3- Tuesday)
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. (Grade 4 – 6 -Tuesday)

Ballet
Ballet is the most basic technique of dance on which other forms of
dance, gymnastics and ice-skating are build on. Ballet helps acquire
muscle strength, flexibility, control, balance, correct posture, grace,
coordination and musicality.

Marins, Capitaines, Kindergarten–Grade 6
Time:
10:45 – 11:45 a.m. (Kindergarten -- Thursday)
3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
(Marins & Capitaines--Monday)
4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
(Grade 1-6 – Thursday)
Tap Dancing
Children will be taught tap dancing, which will improve their
rhythm and coordination skills.
Grades:
Marins, Capitaines, Kindergarten – Grade 6
Time:
3:30 – 4:30 p.m. (Marins, Capitaines, Kindergarten
– Wednesday)
4:30 - 5:30 p.m. ((Grade 1- 6) --Beginner Level –
Wednesday)
4:30 -5:30 p.m. ((Grade 1 -6) – Intermediate Level Friday)

Choir
Students learn how to sing in an ensemble as well as voice technique.
They are given the opportunity to perform throughout the year.

Wednesday:
1:00 – 1:30 pm
Piano:
The private piano lessons are well adapted to each student’s needs.
The personal approach allows the students enrolled in the course to
perform twice a year. Moreover, the best students are allowed to take
an exam at McGill University conservatory and perform at the
Annual Classical Music Festival of Montréal.

Science & Technology:
Children will familiarize themselves with the different scientific
terms through experiments.

1- 6

4:30-5:30 p.m. Wednesday

A fun-filled, artistic, and amusing class at the end of the day
that enables the students to express their imagination and
ideas about themselves as well as the world. The course aims
at imparting the students with the knowledge of colors, their
use and the methodology of mixing the different colours
before applying them on the canvas. It gives the parents
the opportunity to better connect with their child.

Kindergarten – 6
Time:
4:30-5:30p.m. Thursday
Arts & Crafts:
This course will introduce the student to a wide variety of
different mediums in the visual arts and crafts. Students will
learn concepts and techniques in painting, drawing, ceramics
and sculpture, as well as a variety of different crafts. Students
will learn about the history and tradition of the different mediums
and projects. Individual expressions will be cultivated. Projects
are designed to accommodate different grade levels.

Kindergarten - 6

4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Thursday

Drawing:
This course will introduce the student to both basic and diverse
elements of drawing. The course is designed to strengthen the drawing
skills. Students will learn how to do observational drawings,
imaginative drawings and cartooning. Students will also learn how to
analyze form, as well as exploit their own self-expression. Many
different mediums will be explored, such as charcoal, pen and ink,
pastels and graphite. Projects are designed to accommodate different
grade levels.

Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
Time:
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Monday
10. Calligraphy
This course enables the students to learn artistic calligraphy. During
this hour the students get the chance to go back in time to revisit
history and be exposed to the beautiful, decorative letters. The course
is very interesting for the students as they are able to present their
talent on t-shirts and books. The talent aims to improve the students’
handwriting in class.

Kindergarten - 6

Judo
A Martial art that develops coordination and increases self-confidence
through different activities involving throws, hold downs, and break
falls.
Grades:
Capitaines , Kindergarten-Grade 6
Time:
9:00 am – 10:00am (Captaines & Kindergarten)
4:30 pm-5:30 pm (Grade1-6) Tuesday

Skating
A fun and diversified program for all level of skaters offered to pre-K
and Kindergarten children.
Time:
1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Grades:
Marins, Capitaines & Kindergarten only
Transportation Included
Buses leave at 1:00 pm and are back around 4:00 pm
13. Swimming
A gym and swim program that utilises a variety of activities to initiate
and develop swim techniques.
Time:
1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Classes:
Marins, Capitaines & Kindergarten only
Transportation Included
Buses leave at 1:00 pm and are back around 4:00 pm
14 Karate
We have added Karate to this year’s Martial Art
program and encourage you to look at this as an option. We
thank our Karate instructor for supporting us in extending this
program school-wide.

3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m Capitaines

4:30 p.m -5:30Kindergarten – Grade-6

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
15 Skiing & Snowboarding
The lessons will be given at Chanteclerc in Ste- Adèle (Québec).
The price includes transportation, lunch, ski lift, complete rental
equipment, and 1hour 30 min lesson including 1 hour free ski with
monitor and an extra hour for intermediate and advanced skiers after
lunch. The famous fête du Chocolat will be held on Friday, March
9th, 2011
Time:
8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Grades:
Capitaines, Kindergarten-6
Snowbaording is only for 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grade
