Who can enroll?
Under the Education Act of Ontario and Section 23 of the Canadian Charter of Rights
and Freedoms, a student who is a rights holder can attend a school of Conseil scolaire
Viamonde. This applies if one of the child’s parents or guardians meets one of the
following criteria:
• the parent’s or the guardian’s first language learned and still understood is French;
• the parent or guardian received elementary school instruction in French in Canada;
• he or she is the parent or guardian of a child who received or is receiving elementary
or secondary school instruction in French in Canada.
A parent who is not a French-language rights holder may also enroll his or her child
in a French-language school. The child and the parent or guardian must appear
before members of the Admissions Committee, who will determine whether the child
understands, speaks, reads, and writes French at their age and grade level.
In preparation for your meeting at the school, it is important to bring your child’s:
