Whenthedeviceischarging,anaddiIonalyellowlightwillilluminatenexttothegreenpower lightindicaIngthatitischarging.Theyellowlightwillturnoffleavingonlythegreenpowerlight whenitisfullycharged. TheCamRangerbaKeryisaccessiblebyremovingtheboKomcover.TheboKomcoveristhe sidewiththeCamRangerserialnumber.Simplygraspthesideedge/cornerofthecovernearthe USBconnectorandpullbacktoremove.Toreplacethecover,firstplacethetwolowertabsinto theslotsandthensnapinthetop. CamRangerisnotwater-resistantinanywayandshouldnotgetwet. AblackneoprenecaseisprovidedtoassistinaKachingandsecuringtheCamRanger,notethat thispouchisnotwaterproof.Thecasehasacarabineertofacilitatehangingfromatripod,belt loop,etc.DonotjusthangtheCamRangerbythecableasitwillputstrainontheUSB connectorsaswellaspossiblydisconnect. ©CamRanger–PatentPending 3 CamRangerRegistra0on BeforeaWindowscomputercanbeusedwithaCamRanger,theWindowsCamRangerapplicaIon shouldbeinstalledonthecomputer,atnoaddiIonalcosttotheuser,fromthedownloadspageon theCamRangerwebsite,www.camranger.com/downloads.Oncedownloaded,theCamRanger applicaIonneedstoberegistered.RegistraIonrequiresInternetconnecIvity.Beforeproceeding, confirmInternetconnecIvity(donotconnecttotheCamRangernetwork). LaunchtheCamRangerapplicaIonandthefollowingscreenwillappear.Click“OK.” TheflowingregistraIonpop-upwillappear.IftheregistraIonpop-updoesnotappear,fromthe “Help”tabontheWindowsCamRangermenubarclick“Register,”andthefollowingscreenwill appear. Enterthe8-characterCamRangerserialnumber.TheserialnumberislocatedbothontheboKomof thebackcoveraswellasabovethebaKeryunderneaththebackcover.Note:theserialnumber containsonlyleKersandNOnumbers. Pressthe“Register”buKontoregister.AmessageboxwillappearindicaIngregistraIonwas successfulandtheWindowscanbeusedwiththeCamRanger.ExittheapplicaIonandthenproceed withthesetupprocessasdetailedbelowintheCamRangerSetupsecIon. IfregistraIonfails,confirmInternetconnecIvityandtheCamRangerserialnumberbeforecontacIng [email protected]. ©CamRanger–PatentPending 4 CamRangerSetup PowerontheCamRangerandconfirmallfourlightsbrieflyappear.TheCamRangerwilltake approximately30secondsunIlitisfullyiniIalized. ThefirstImetheuserconnectstotheCamRangerfromaWindowscomputer,thecomputerneedsto beregistered.SeetheCamRangerRegistraIonsecIonabove. Onceregistered,connecttotheCamRangerWiFinetworkonthecomputer.Thenetworknamewill beCamRanger-###,withthelastthreecharactersmatchingthelast3charactersoftheCamRanger’s serialnumber.Enterthenetworkpassword,whichisthefull8charactersoftheCamRanger’sserial number.ThepasswordMUSTBEENTEREDINALLCAPS. ConnecttheCamRangertothecamerawiththeprovidedblackUSBcable.(Note:unitspurchased throughretailerswillhaveaUSBminicable,whichwillworkwithmostcameras.AfewselectNikons useadifferentcable,whichmaybepurchasedseparatelyorthecablethatcamewiththecamerawill alsowork)ThemaleAendisinsertedintotheUSBportattheendoftheCamRanger,andtheother endisconnectedtotheUSBportofthecamera.Thenensurethecameraisturnedon.Whenthe cameraisconnectedandturnedon,thegreenlightclosesttotheedgeoftheCamRangerdevicewill light. MainImageView Liveviewandcapturedimagesaredisplayedwithinthemainimageview. LiveViewImages ToiniIateliveview,clickonthe“eye”buKonlocatedwithinthecameraacIoncontrolsonthe boKomrightoftheapplicaIonscreen.Inliveview,theimageonthescreenisautomaIcallyupdated asliveviewimagesstreamin.Theexactframepersecondrateisverymuchdependenton CamRangerWiFisignalstrength,thecamera,andtheWindowsspecs.However,assumingagood connecIon,liveviewframeratewillbeabout7–18fps. Wheninliveview,themainimageviewmaybeclickedoncetofocusatthatpoint.Notethatfor Canoncameras,theouteredgesoftheimagecannotbefocusedupon.Doubleclickingwillzoomin theviewingwindowanddoubleclickingagainreturnstoregularsize. CanoncamerascandisplaytheliveviewimageonthecameraandWindowsandallowtheuserto triggerimageswiththecamerabyacIvaIngthecamera’sliveviewbuKona"erstarIngliveonthe CamRangerapplicaIon.Nikoncamerasdonotallowanycontrolofthephysicalcamerawhilelive viewisacIve. CapturedImages Capturedimagescanbedisplayedinthemainimageviewinoneoftwoways,byselecInga thumbnailinthethumbnailssecIonoftheapplicaIonorthroughtheAuto-ViewImagesfeature.The ©CamRanger–PatentPending 7 Auto-ViewImagefeatureisusefulwhencapturingimagesfromthecameraandusingtheWindows applicaIonforimagedisplay.Whenthisfeatureisselected,pictureswillautomaIcallydisplayinthe mainimageviewscreen.ThisfeaturecanbeturnedonoroffbyselecIng“View”ontheWindows CamRangermenubarandthen“CamRangerPreferences.”FormoreinformaIonaboutthisfeature, refertotheWindowsCamRangerMenuBar:Se6ng-PreferencessecIonfoundonpage19. Whenathumbnailisselectedforviewing,theimagewilldisplayedonthemainimageviewandcan zoomedinat50%,100%,200%,orfittoscreenbyselecIngthemagnificaIonofinterestbelowthe image.Theimagecanthenbepannedusingthemouse. Ahistogramoftheimagemaybeviewedfromthe“Data”tabasdescribedintheAdvancedTab-Data secIonfoundonpage9.Turningonthehistogramwillgenerateahistogramforcapturesimages. Imagesdisplayedinthemainviewaresavedbydefaulttothephotodirectoryonthecomputer.For furthersavingopIons,includingtheabilitytoautomaIcallysaveallpictures,refertotheWindows CamRangerMenuBar:Se6ngs-PreferencessecIonfoundonpage19. Toviewtheimagesonthecamera’smemorycardselect“View”ontheWindowsCamRangerMenu Barandthen“CardContents.”Anewwindowwillappeardisplayingthumbnailsoftheimagesonthe camera’sremovablemedia.Double-clickingathumbnailwilldownloadanddisplaytheimagewithin themainimageview.AddiIonalfeaturesfordownloadingordeleIngimagesarealsoavailable.For furtherinformaIonaboutthecardcontents,refertotheWindowsCamRangerMenuBar-Card ContentssecIonfoundonpage17. ©CamRanger–PatentPending 8 AdvancedTabs TherearefourtabsprovidingadvancedinformaIonorcontrols:Data,Focus,Timer,andHDR.A TripodorStackShottabwillappearasafifhtapiftheCamRangerisbeingusedwiththeCamRanger PTHubandasupportedtripodhead(theMP-360,Bescor,orHague)orStackShot. Data ThedatatabshowsanRGBhistogramandmeta-data associatedwiththecapturedimageinthemainimageview. Thefollowingmeta-dataisprovided: • ShuKerSpeed • Aperture • MegaPixels(Notethisisnotfilesize,butimage resoluIon) • ISO • MeteringMode • ExposureCompensaIonValue Withinliveviewthehistogramcanbetoggledonoroff.Of note,thehistogramwillreducetheliveviewframerate. Focus Thefocustabisonlyenabledduringliveviewandprovidesadvancedfocusingcontrols. FocusAdjust TherearetwosetsofbuKonstomovethelens’focalplane nearerorfurtherfromthecamera.EachsethasthreebuKons withdifferentsizedarrowstospecifyalarge,medium,orsmall stepinfocus.TapthebuKontomovethefocusbyasingle increment,holdingdownthebuKonwillhavenoaffect. FocusStacking FocusstackingisaprocessoftakingmulIplecaptureswith slightchangesinfocusandthenpostprocessingthemto enhancethedepthoffield.Thiscontrolallowstheusertoset thefocusstepsizetotakebetweenineachshotandthenumber ofshotstotake.Eachfocusstepwillmovethefocalplane furtherfromthecamera.Sotheuserwillwanttosetthefocus tothenearestplanedesiredtobeinfocusandstartthestacking processfromthere.Iftoofewcapturesweretaken,theprocess canberestartedfromwheretheiniIalstackingended.Note: postprocessingoftheimagesisnotdonewithintheCamRangerapplicaIon. ©CamRanger–PatentPending 9 Timer TheImertaballowstheuseoftheCamRangerasanintervalometeraswellasspecifyingexposure Imeswhenthecameraisinbulbmode. TimeLapse • TheentryfieldsareusedtospecifytheiniIaldelaybefore thefirstshot,thenumberofshotstotake,andthedelayin betweeneachshot. • Aferconfiguringthesehngs,pressthe“Start”buKonto begintheintervalometerprocess. • Theintervalometercommandsarestoredonthe CamRangerdevice,theWindowscomputerdoesnotneed toremainonorconnectedoncetheintervalomiter commandisiniIated. • The“ShotDelay”shouldnotbeusedforprecisionIming, parIcularlywhenthedelayisonlyafewsecondsorless. • Onceanintervalometersequenceisbegun,theImertab willprovideacountdownofthecurrentImelapseaswell asabuKontocanceltheImelapse. Bulb • TheBulbcontrolsareonlyenabledwhenthecameraisinbulbmodeandthecamerasupports remotebulbshots. • TheentryfieldsareusedtospecifytheiniIaldelaybeforethefirstshotandthelengthofthe exposure. • AferconfiguraIon,pressthe“Start”buKontobeginthebulbprocess. • ThebulbcommandsarestoredontheCamRangerdeviceandtheWindowsdoesnotneedto remainonorconnected. HDR The“HDR”,orAdvancedBrackeIng,tabcanbeusedtogenerateaseriesofphotoswithvarying exposures. • AdvancedBrackeIngisonlyenabledwhenthecameraisin Manualexposuremode. • ThePropertyfieldspecifiesthecamerapropertytobe varied.TherearethreeopIons:ShuKerSpeed,Aperture, andISO. • TheIniIalDelayfieldspecifiestheamountofdelay,ifany, totakebeforebeginningthebrackeIngsequence. • TheiniIalvaluefortheselectedpropertyissetwiththe StartValuefield. • Thetotalnumberofimagestocaptureisspecifiedbythe ©CamRanger–PatentPending 10 • • • • • NumberofShotsfield. ThepossibleStepSizevaluesareupto3stopsandspecifybyhowmanystopstovarytheexposure betweeneachcapture. Thecardcontentswilldisplaythumbnailsoftheimagesonthecamera’sremovablemedia.The applicaIonwilliniIallyloadthemostrecentthumbnails.Toloadmorethumbnails,pressthe “LoadMore”buKonattheboKomofthewindow. ©CamRanger–PatentPending 17 Anynumberofthumbnailscanbeselectedbypressingathumbnail,orallmaybeselectedby pressing“SelectAll”attheboKomofthewindow.Selectedthumbnailswillhaveagreyborder aroundthem(asseenabove,2imagesareselected).AferselecIngthumbnailstheymayeither bedeletedorsaved.The“Delete”buKonatthelowerlefwilldeletetheassociatedimagesof theselectedthumbnailsfromthecamera’sremovablemediawhenselected.The“Save”buKon atthelowerrightwillsaveallassociatedimagesoftheselectedthumbnailstotheimage directoryspecifiedinthepreferences.Imagesaresavedregardlessofformat. Imageswithinthecardcontentsviewcanbeviewedbydoubleclickingontheimage.The imagewillthenappearinthemainimageviewwindow. Notethatthethumbnailsarepresentedinchronologicalorderbeginningwiththemostrecent. However,forNikontheyaregroupedfirstbyformat,suchthatallJPG’swillbelisted,thenTIFF’s, andfinallyRAWimages. Controls Whenthe“Control”viewisturnedon,thecamerasehngsandimagecapturingopIonsareon therighthandsideoftheapplicaIon.TurningtheControlsviewoff,willhidetheseopIons. ThumbnailsoftheimagescapturedwithintheCamRangersessionwillconInuetoappearon theupperporIonofthescreen,themainimageviewwillshowlivevieworcapturedimages. ImageOnly When“ImageOnly”isselected,theadvancedcontrolstab,cameraproperIes,andcamera acIonsontherighthandsideoftheapplicaIonarehidden.Thethumbnailsofimagestaken withintheCamRangersessionwillnotappearontheupperporIonofthescreen. When“ImageOnly”isnotselected,theadvancedcontrolstab,cameraproperIes,camera acIons,andthumbnailsarevisiblewithintheCamRangerapplicaIon. Help The“Help”dropdownfoundontheWindowsCamRangermenubarisusedtoaccessuser sehngs,registeringCamRangerdevices,andtoaccessthishelpmanual.
