Strong Texworld
illustrates
industry stability
Texworld Paris closed its doors in
February after welcoming more than
13,000 visitors with a noticeable increase
in buyers from France and the UK.
Welcoming the strong showing,
Michael Scherpe, the CEO Messe
Frankfurt France, said that the 1%
increase represented a mood of stability
in the industry.
London to
host African
fashion event
A fashion conference on the African
garment and textiles industry is to be
held later this year, including panel
discussions on sustainability, responsible
sourcing, African fashion manufacturing,
and the growth of the African luxury and
designer market.
The Fashion Africa Conference aims to
elevate perceptions of African design,
raise awareness, and share industry ideas
and expertise, according to organisers
Africa Fashion Guide - a social enterprise
which promotes sustainability in the
African fashion and textiles industries.
Held on Fashion Revolution Day, a day
marking the two year anniversary of the
Rana Plaza collapse in Bangladesh, panel
discussions will include ‘Africa’s triple
bottom line’, sustainability, ethical
credentials and responsibility in the
African fashion industry,’ ‘Source Africa
and navigating value chains, logistics, and
red tape,’ and ‘Africa is open for business,
Africa as a source for new business.’
Confirmed panellists for the event include
Simon Ferrigno, sustainable and organic
farming systems consultant and Cotton
Horizons author, Lisel Truscott, Textile
Exchange, and Mark Robertson of
responsible supply chains platform Sedex.
The Fashion Africa Conference 2015,
themed “An African Revolution,” will be
held 24 April at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green
Road, London.
“I am delighted at the stronger French
presence, but I note that there was a
marked, foreseeable decline in visitors
from Russia. It was a successful show, as
the exhibitors met their usual purchasers
and generated highly satisfactory
volumes of orders,” he said. “The only
significant fluctuations noted were the
increase in French and British visitors. We
are delighted that we were able to
combine a creative, competitive range,
which meets the demands of International brands coming to Paris in full.”
A total of 13,639 visitors from 111
countries came to see products by 626
Texworld exhibitors. Europe was steady
with a remarkable breakthrough by
France (up 13%) and the UK (up 3%
again). Italy, Portugal and Germany saw
a slight fall, whilst Spain remained
steady, supported by its numerous
fashion brands.
Africa saw an increase of more than
6%, with Tunisia, Egypt and Mauritius
well up while Japan saw an increase
of 10%.

The summer 2016 Trends Forum with
its theme ‘Presence’ attracted the
attention of many professionals in search
of new textures and colours. Louis Gérin,
Artistic Director, gave them the thematic
focus of the six themes which were the
subject of the very well-attended
seminars.
Elsewhere, the fashion show
highlighted a selection of exceptional
embroidery. Partner Esmod Fashion
School took part in the Wool by Esmod
exhibition and on the stage with the
Esmod Couture fashion show. The
former demonstrated the students’ work
with woven and knitted wool, using
silhouettes evoking Japanese fashion
with its plain range, rigorous lines and
refined details.
The latter took the form of ‘Couture
Spirit’ models, designs by final year
students, highlighting cutting skill, a
sense of volume and pleats.
The next Texworld will take place from
Monday 14 to Thursday 17 September
2015, at Paris Le Bourget.
Digital printing machinery
zone at ShanghaiTex 2015
The 17th International Exhibition on Textile Industry (ShanghaiTex 2015) will be unveiled
at Shanghai New International Expo Center from June 15 to 18, 2015 with an expanded
Digital Printing Machinery Zone.
To meet the market trend on energy saving and emission reduction required by the
printing industry, digital printing has witnessed a boom in recent years for its edge over
traditional printing in environmentally-friendly production, product diversity, small batch
production and product customization.
As an emerging high-tech industry in international market, digital textile printing
promises extensive applications. According to the latest forecast by PIRA, from 2014 to
2015, global digital printing output is expected to reach 10% of total textile printing
output and the installation base for digital printing equipment would hit 50,000 sets.

IWTO launches Wool Retail Forum
A platform for retailers throughout the wool industry, aiming to offer opportunities for
collaboration and increased supply chain transparency, will be held during the 84th
International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO) Congress in May. The Wool Retail Forum
is set to discuss the wool industry’s role in modern retail, as well as quality assurance,
outdoor and sportswear opportunities, and trends in the Chinese luxury and consumer
markets, according to organisers.
Elisabeth van Delden of IWTO said: “The Wool Retail Forum is an opportunity for retailers
who are looking for ways to strengthen transparency and authenticity, and to exchange
ideas directly with downstream suppliers.”
“The forum recognises that as an industry, we must work more closely in order to meet
consumer expectations about origins, accountability and value,” she added.
Registration is free for retailers and brands. Along with the Wool Retail Form, retailers
and brands are invited to attend Congress sessions on sustainability, industry
innovations, and the Campaign for Wool.
Retailers and brands interested in participating should contact [email protected].
Late last year, IWTO held a multi-stakeholder roundtable in Brussels, discussing animal
welfare, REACH legislation and wool recycling opportunities across the industry.
The annual IWTO Congress will be held 18-20 May in Zhangjiagang, China.

Sportswear
opportunities for
lingerie makers
Eurovet, the organiser of Interfiliere
Hong Kong, is setting up a creative
collaboration with several partners,
including Hong Kong Polytechnic
University, to explore the a huge
potential for lingerie specialists, from
designers to garment makers, fabric
suppliers and lace manufacturers, in the
sportswear sector.
Focusing on the two major areas of
current global intimate activity, March’s
Interfiliere Hong Kong will introduce
three themes under the Day & Night
concept. These will include the latest
developments for sport and everyday
underwear, sensual decorated fabrics
and prototypes for more dressy seductive
occasions at night. Specifically, the three
themes are:
• Modern By Day: New knit & weave
textures for loungewear & underwear.
• Festive By Night: Innovative colour
combinations & festive textures.
• Aromatic Flowers: Modern romantic
embroideries with superfine yarns &
new scales.
“Fashionable sport collections are hot
bestsellers driven by brands such as
Lululemon, Sweaty Betty, VSX and Nike,”
Eurovet said. “Victoria’s Secret also
launched a new sports bra with the
phrase ‘Sweat, look good, feel
comfortable, and monitor your heart rate
all at the same time’, showing the
evolving technology and style in the
sport market today.
“On top of performance, we also see
more glam approach to decoration
including florals and shiny effects
enabling customers to bring more flavour
to their sport and leisure wardrobe.”
As this market offers a huge potential
for lingerie specialists Eurovet is
organizing the creative collaboration
with Hong Kong Polytechnic University,
Fashion design department of Taiwan
Shih Chien University, Concepts Paris and
Interfiliere Hong Kong exhibitors to
create cutting-edge prototypes.
These prototypes will illustrate optical
effects, functional sport basics for a
personalized look and multi-functional
yogawear for sport & lounge.
Outfits will be displayed alongside the
trend forum as well as during a mini
fashion showcase, which will take place
during the two days show.
Eurovet added: “You can find more
inspiration for sport and leisure at the
trend forum too. Along with a variety of
lingerie, loungewear and nightwear
fabrics and accessories at the forum,
there will be an exclusive area to
showcase materials from super
functional to sporty, everyday wear and
semi-sport leisure focused on yoga and
relaxing to bring a comprehensive, 360
degree perspective for intimate professionals worldwide.”
Interfiliere Hong Kong will take place
from 18-19 March at the Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Invista partners with
Paris lingerie show
The latest developments from Invista were in evidence in
Paris in January with the owner of the Lycra brand sponsoring
the hosiery area at the Salon International de la Lingerie.
The dedicated hosiery section of the exhibition showcased
exhibitors’ new Winter 2015/2016 collections with the latest
technological advancements also unveiled.
The ‘Beautiful Legs’ area at the Salon International de la
Lingerie has expanded this year to feature new events in
partnership with Invista and the developments achieved in
the hosiery market using Lycra fibre.
The event included an offbeat fashion show revealing only
the legs of the models that was staged twice a day with
visitors getting a glimpse of the upcoming season’s trends as well as the exhibitor collections. In the same area, the Lycra brand
illustrated the latest developments from its research laboratory.
A consumer survey conducted by Invista has defined five types of women, corresponding to developments in styles and lifestyles. For
each consumer profile, Invista will be suggesting fashion-forward hosiery from the ‘ideas’ collection featuring Lycra innovations.
The five types include Spontaneous Sara who goes for products that reflect her exuberant personality, preferably creative, original
products. Franci, the Butterfly, flutters from one brand to another on a whim, buoyed by trends, with new developments triggering her
purchases. Sofia, the Power Woman, pays attention to every last detail on her outfits, carefully choosing according to the occasion, and
her hosiery is no exception. As for Functional Freda, she aims for simplicity, opting for hosiery that provides plenty of support and
comfort, as well as contributing to her well-being and balance. Pragmatic Paula, the nature lover, chooses practical products affording
freedom of movement and comfort, perfectly matching her complexion, choosing a flawless, lasting fit over the latest trends.
According to Invista, its partnership with the Salon International de la Lingerie dovetails neatly with the ‘Lycra Moves You’ campaign
showcasing the fibre’s properties in terms of freedom, comfort and movement.
