Saint Mary Magdalen Mission
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Welcome to Saint Margaret
From Father Mike
For over 110 years, Saint Margaret Parish
has brought people together to worship
God. We are open, Eucharist-centered,
affirming, and child-friendly. If you are
searching for a church home we hope you
will come again soon. There is always a
warm welcome waiting for you.
The Book of Exodus describes
a pillar of fire by which God led
his people from slavery in Egypt
through the desert to the Promised
Land. That event, called the Exodus,
happened 1,300 years before the birth
of Christ. It is historical, but it is also
symbolic. It foretells the new exodus,
a spiritual exodus brought about by
Christ himself. His dying and rising
to new life makes possible an exodus
experience for all of us – dying to
sin and rising to new life in God, and
eventually dying to our physical bodies
and rising to new life in Christ. Our
paschal candle symbolizes Christ as
the pillar of fire, the light leading us
to new life.
Sunday, April 3, 2016
Regional Service
Following the noon Mass
at St. Ignatius Church in
Hickory, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed
in the Monstrance on the
altar. The Prayers for Divine Mercy will be recited. Following the
prayers, the blessing of religious articles
will be given and the Monstrance will be
returned to the Historic Church for Eucharistic Adoration. All are welcome.
By the way, the word paschal is derived from the word Passover and
refers to the Jewish Passover. This
is the solemn Jewish feast day that
remembers the Exodus event – the
passing over from slavery to freedom.
For us Christians, the word paschal refers to Jesus’ passing over from death to
resurrection.
Directory of Ministries and Services
Are you wondering what Saint Margaret Parish has to offer you, or thinking about volunteering but not sure what that might be?
The directory gives detailed information
about our ministries and programs as well
as contact information for all that is available here at Saint Margaret. Our Directory of Ministries and Services is available
at the doors of the church and mission, in
the parish office and on the parish website,
www.stmargaret.org.
There is some rich symbolism on
the paschal candle that we may
not notice unless we see it closely.
At the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday
night, the priest touches these symbols
and voices the words that break open
their meaning.
Welcome
Information is due by 10:00 am on Monday
for the following Sunday. If Monday is a holiday, items should be submitted the previous
Friday. Please include name and contact information and e-mail bulletinsaintmargaret@
gmail.com or fax to 410-879-2518.

and the End [touching a horizontal
line], the Alpha [ touching an alpha,

and the Omega [touching an omega,

Were you out of town? Did you forget to take
a bulletin home with you? Do you find yourself looking for it to get an update on a meeting time? Visit our parish website www.
stmargaret.org. Look under the “information” tab and select “bulletins.”
Nursery Service
Nursery service is provided during the 10:00 am Mass at the church and during the
9:00 and 11:00 am Masses at Saint Mary Magdalen.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a chance for children from 3 – 12 years old, to
learn about the gospel story on their level. The session includes a welcome, readings,
singing and discussion based on the gospel. The timing and scope of the session is
governed only by the length of the homily - usually 7-9 minutes. Offered at the 10:00
am Mass at the church and 9:00 and 11:00 Masses at the mission.
All time belongs to him and all the ages.
To him be glory and power through every
age and forever. Amen.” [As the priest
says the last two sentences, he touches
the four numerals for this year, 2016.]
Then the priest touches five large,
waxen grains of incense, colored red
– four of them placed in the form of
a cross and one in the center. These
recall the five wounds of Christ on
the cross – in his feet, hands, and side.
The priest says: “By his holy and glori-
ous wounds, may Christ the Lord guard
us and protect us. Amen.”
The symbolism and wording speak
of the divine Christ, existing as the
Son with the Father before time began. They hail Christ as the One who
brings salvation to all of humanity by
shedding his blood on the cross.
I hope the above enriches your celebration of Easter and of this beautiful Easter Season that we are now beginning.

Health Ministry
The Health Ministry
strives to fulfill its mission
of promoting the health
of the parishioners by
actively encouraging, supporting, and developing a sense of wellbeing of the body, mind, and spirit through
education, partnering/networking, advocacy and referral. Past activities include:
the installation of AEDs in all buildings,
educating children about healthy lifestyle
choices at Fun Nights and Vacation Bible
School, a 6 week “Taste of Health’ series
which explored the mind, body and spiritual connection, providing the framework for
the distribution of gluten-free hosts and
also the protocol for medical emergencies
which occur during a Mass. The Health
Ministry always welcomes new members.
Please contact Jane O’Hara.
The Health Ministry Team
wishes you renewed faith
and a revival of hope that lasts
long after this
Easter season concludes.
Our Daily Bread Casseroles
Each month Saint Margaret is asked to provide 100 casseroles to Our Daily Bread in

This Easter the youngest members of the
Music Ministry, the Cherub Choir, sing:
Jesus lives! Alleluia, amen!
We will sing it again and again To the earth to the sky, way down low,
way up high.
Jesus lives! Alleluia, amen!
The older children sing:
Christ is alive, and goes before us
to show and share what love can do.
This is a day of new beginnings;
our God is making all things new.
The High School Liturgical Ensemble
faithfully leads worship with guitars, drums,
instruments, and voices at Saint Mary Magdalen Mission under the direction of Jeffery Winfield.
The seasoned voices of the Adult Choir
sing an anthem by Chrysogonus Waddell,
OCSO, entitled “Jesus Lives”.
Happy Easter!
Alleluia!
Reflections from Father Mike
Father Mike prepares and sends a spiritual reflection via e-mail each week. If
you would like to receive these
reflections, please send a request by e-mail to

or call the parish office,

The Eucharist in Scripture
This six-week Bible study begins on
Wednesday, April 20, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm
in the Adult Education Center. “The Eucharist in Scripture” emphasizes the importance of meals shared in faithful fellowship
as part of our covenant relationship with
God. Old Testament meals and promises
provide the foundation for Gospel meals
with Jesus, culminating in the Last Supper as
understood by Paul and in Matthew, Mark
and Luke. ‘Breaking bread’ in Acts and the
Bread of Life discourse in John are carefully
examined.
FAITH CIRCLES (Small Christian
Communities)
This is where folks connect with one another to experience the fullness of their
faith. Faith Circles have been around
since the beginnings of the early church.
Faith Circles can be made up of all women, all men or both; they can be families
coming together one evening a week to
reflect on the Sunday readings, and to encourage one another to be the best they
can be. If you are interested in becoming
part of a group, starting your own group
or need resources for your family, please
contact Marie.
