EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE CAKE WE CAN ALL MAKE http://www.foodontheblog.co.uk EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Easy Chocolate Mousse Cake Chocolate Cake Recipe If you ever need a chocolate cake, this recipe will do in a pinch. It’s moist, quite delicious and doesn’t require any unusual ingredients. We demonstrate this recipe to make 2 – 9” cakes, but you can adjust the sizes and numbers as you wish. Just make sure the cake is fully baked before removing it from the oven. Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour 1/3 cup cocoa powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup butter or margarine 1 3/4 cups sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 3 eggs 1 1/2 cups milk How to Make It Preheat your oven to 350 F. Then grease and flour 2 – 9” baking pans. 2 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, cacao powder, baking soda and salt. Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine the butter or margarine, sugar, vanilla and eggs. Beat on medium-high until well creamed. 3 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Then, start adding the milk and dry ingredients with the wet…a little bit at a time. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes. Pour the mix evenly into the 2 pans and place them in the oven. 4 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Bake for 30-35 minutes. You can tell if your cake is done when you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean. Or simply press down the middle with your fingers. If it springs back, it should be done. Simple Chocolate Mousse Most chocolate mousse recipes require eggs and a more complicated preparation process than this one. Of course, some may say because we don’t use the traditional ingredients that isn’t a mousse. But I dare you to try it…it’s absolutely delicious and you’ll be pleased at how easy it is. Ingredients: 1 teaspoon gelatin powder 2 tablespoons boiling water 5 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE 1 cup whipping cream 1/3 cup sugar ¼ cup cocao powder, sifted 1 teaspoon vanilla How to Make It Chill a mixing bowl and beaters for about 20 minutes. In a small bowl, mix the gelatin and boiling water. Mix thoroughly with a spoon and then set aside. Place the whipping cream in your mixing bowl and beat on high, until peaks start to form. Add 6 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE the sugar, cacao and vanilla and continue beating until stiff peaks form. Stir in the gelatin and place in refrigerator to set for about 1 hour. Serve as a dessert with whipped cream or use it as a cake filling. Super Easy Chocolate Ganache No double boilers required here. This chocolate ganache is made in the microwave oven and we promise it will taste as good as any you’ve ever tasted. Some versions of ganache have much more chocolate. We prefer a creamier ganache, but you can certainly adjust the amount of chocolate to match your taste. Ingredients: 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate (6 wrapped squares) 7 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE ¾ cup of heavy cream How to Make It Grab a microwave safe dish and add the chocolate. You’ll see we have some chocolate chips in the image below because we didn’t quite have enough baking squares. If you’re going to use chocolate chips instead of squares, you’ll need 1 cup. Many recipes will tell you to chop up the chocolate for even melting, but it’s an unnecessary step if you follow all the instructions in this recipe. Then add the cream. Place it in the microwave oven and heat on high for 2 minutes. Remove it from the microwave and stir thoroughly. 8 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE At this point, the chocolate probably won’t completely blend with the cream, so you’ll have to put it back in the microwave. Heat for another minute or so and stir again. You’ll know when your ganache is done when the chocolate and cream are thoroughly combined and you have a smooth mixture. 9 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Use the ganache right away or store it in the fridge. You can reheat it to get to the perfect consistency required for your recipe. Chocolate Mousse Cake with Whipped Cream and Ganache This one’s quite decadent, but can be pretty easy to put together, especially if you used premade mixes for your cake and mousse. If you’re ambitious, you can use our from scratch recipes instead. This cake consists of a chocolate cake base and chocolate mousse filling. It’s then topped with whipped cream, chocolate ganache, crumbled Skor bars and garnished with strawberries. What You Need 1 - 9” cake, cooled and cut into 2 layers. You can also make 2 – 9” cakes if you prefer. Chocolate Mousse set and chilled (use our simple recipe, or 1 packaged mix will do) 10 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE 2 cups stabilized whipped cream 1 batch of chocolate ganache (use our recipe, it’s easier than you think) 2-3 Hershey Skor chocolate bars, crumbled Fresh strawberries for garnish Putting Your Cake Together Layer 1 - Chocolate Mousse: Place your first cake layer on a cake board and top with chocolate mousse. Step 2 - Whipped Cream Layer: Top the mousse with the next cake layer and then top with whipped cream. You will probably have plenty of whipped cream, but make sure you save enough for the piped decoration on top. 11 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Step 3 - Chocolate Ganache: Spoon the chocolate ganache over the whipped cream. Make sure your ganache is not too warm or it will melt your whipped cream. Then simply spoon and drizzle it all over, letting it drip down the sides. 12 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Don’t worry if it’s messy. You can wipe up your cake board afterward. Step 4 - Crumbled Skor Bar: Take a couple of Skor bars (or Heath bars will do the trick). Place them in a plastic bag and crumble them with a mallet. Place the bits on across the top of your cake. 13 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Step 5: Piped Whipped Cream Pipe whipped cream rosettes around your cake. Or make whatever design you’d like. It’s your cake, have fun with it. 14 EASY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE CAKE Step 6 – Garnish: Garnish with sliced strawberries or another fruit, if you wish.
