Learning More about Confluence
Confluence Sunday
Her Place
On Sunday, April 24, the Confluence members will lead the congregation
in worship at St. John's!
Come join us in this celebration of
our third Confluence class as we
welcome Confluence alumni, partner
organizations, and family to celebrate
the impact of the St. John's Episcopal
Service Corps Program.
You will have an opportunity on
that Sunday to make a special contribution to the on-going work of Confluence
in developing young adult leaders.
On Tuesday, April 12, Confluence
members Katie Blodgett, Katie Guy,
Hanna Kahler, and Anna Berger will
share their experiences this year in our
leadership development program. It
promises to be a fun and educational
evening for the women of St. John’s.
The program begins at 6:00 PM
with a potluck dinner of healthy foods.
Transportation is available by calling the
church office, 614-2221-9328.

Getting to Know Our Neighbors
This year we have been using a process called Asset Based Community Development to learn as much as we can about
the Franklinton neighborhood. Hanna Kahler and Will Myers have put together a list of community services and a directory of all
the churches in Franklinton in easy-to-use formats. They have also been getting to know our neighbors and putting information
about their gifts, talents, hopes and dreams into a data base, focusing primarily on Avondale Ave. between W. Broad St. and
Sullivant Ave. A pictorial display will be up soon which summarizes what they have discovered. That way, when we hear of an
opportunity, we can connect a specific person to that opportunity. As their year winds down, they will transferring responsibility
for this community building back to the congregation for us to continue and expand. A first step is for all of us to participate in an
event that Will and Hanna are planning in May.
Heritage
St. John’s will be celebrating Pentecost this year by hosting a Heritage Potluck celebrating the
various places that our neighbors have their roots — whether in a different country themselves, the
Festival
country of their ancestors, or a special culture with which they identify. At the same time, we will
celebrate our own roots with our neighbors. The potluck will be at St. John’s on Saturday, May 14 at
4pm. Please bring a dish to share from your heritage that serves 4-6 people, and any traditional
clothes, musical instruments, or other items that you would like to show the other people at the
potluck. We hope to have flags on display and music fr om each countr y that is r epr esented, so to
facilitate this please contact Hanna Kahler ([email protected]) and let her know what country
or culture you will be representing by Sunday, May 8th. A sign-up sheet will be on the meeting room
bulletin board closer to the event.
Did you know….?
To burn the calories in one 20 oz. sugary drink you would have to walk the bases
around a baseball field 40 times or walk up and down a football field 47 times ! ! ! !

Embracing Our World
Justice Discussion Series Begins
Beginning April 19th, St. John’s will host a discussion series that takes a theo-ethical look at key economic, environmental, and social justice topics relevant to Franklinton and the global community at large. This series is intended to strengthen
our understanding of the connection between issues of faith and justice, enhance our capacities for critical thinking about justice issues, increase our awareness of the various injustices at hand in Franklinton and around the world, and identify ways
that we can resist injustice and build equitable community with all of creation.
Each session will be 90 minutes in length and include a presentation, group discussion, case study review, and reflection.
Participants will be required to complete a short reading or video prior to each session (electronic copies of the required material will be available on the church’s website one week in advance). A complete bibliography will also be provided in order to
encourage further engagement with the selected justice topics.
Sessions will be held in St. John’s meeting room from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on the dates listed below. While participation
in the full series is highly encouraged, attendance at individual sessions is welcomed. For more information, please contact

The Power of Advocacy is Hope!
Please join Ohio Interfaith Power and Light (OhIPL) in a Call for Prayer
and Dialogue on April 20th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. http://
www.ohipl.org/statehouse-lobby-day/ Come! Join us as we call for actions
that promote our common good and a sustainable future for all; meet with
elected officials and network with people from all over Ohio, coming together
in prayer and commitment!
As diverse voices and people of faith we share a common concern for the
Earth and for the health and well-being of all Ohioans. We are calling for civil
dialogue and conversation that will result in swift actions to remove the freeze
on the clean energy standards for Ohio.
You can join us for the prayer time on the steps of the Capitol, and, if you
chose, visit legislators to discuss clean energy. See Deacon Craig for more info
or to car pool from the church.
