I am Olivia Alvarez. I was born and raised in Vancouver BC Canada
I am Olivia Alvarez. I was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. Canada, though my roots are of Spanish and English decent. I graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2014 with a Bachelors degree, majoring in Industrial design. I began my love for art and sculpture at a young age and continued to exercise my creativity through schooling and a small ceramic studio in West Bank, which I visited in the summer. This creative mind set led me to Emily Carr University, where I experimented with a variety of materials, developing sculptures and design products. In my work, an object can be much more than a singular object and maintain a transformative quality. This is an element that continues to appear in my art and design pieces. My intension is to grow in the industrial design field by expanding my knowledge through work experience, material usage, and computer programs, all while intergrading my artistic expression. Designers: Olivia Alvarez, and Douglas Weir The Granville Table This table design was created for BoConcept using small space living as our muse. The Granville table is designed for the modern living space which is continuing to decrease in size. A user is able to quickly transform this “coffee table” from its regular use into a functional work surface. This is achieved with a simple storage compartment for items, such as remote controls, magazines, iPods and cables. The larger surface lifts higher and closer to the user to enhance comfort, ergonomics, function and posture. The table is constructed from heat treated birch, aluminum and tube steel.
