Option – Adoption of a St-Lawrence Beluga for life The "Let's adopt a beluga" campaign launched by the Institute in 1988 turned out to be a significant source of revenue for our research programs. To date, 93 belugas have been adopted and several others are in the process. By adopting a St. Lawrence beluga, you will be contributing directly to their research programs and to the survival plan. Make it possible for them to be on site on your behalf in the coming years. To date the photo-identification program has allowed them to identify some 300 belugas with distinctive markings: geometric shapes on the skin, scars, deformations, and characteristic dorsal ridges. Nearly one third of them have been adopted. Many are still waiting. At the initiation of the adoption procedure, a few candidates will be suggested to you. A photograph, along with information pertaining to each individual, will help you chose your new protégé and find a name for it. Henceforth, your beluga will be known to members of our research team by the name that you give it. The adoptive company will receive: -a limited edition serigraph of a St. Lawrence beluga signed by the artist, Mr. Frédéric Back; -an official adoption certificate: a photograph with an up to date summary of what we know about this animal; -a newsletter containing up-to-date information on the advancement of the Institute's research ; -free access to the Marine Mammal Interpretation Center (CIMM) in Tadoussac; -his/her name on a commemorative plaque outlining the donor's support in a special exhibit at the CIMM
