This list is only an educated guess, though, since film release plans often change. (Additional unlisted films will also become available.) Scheduling our Main Attractions is weekto-week. On Monday, we decide what main films will play starting that Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we set the showtimes for the upcoming week and then update our website and telephone hotline. We also send out a weekly email (which you can receive by signing up at our website). A young man from Brooklyn moves to Los Angeles to make it in the film industry. Once there, he falls in love and gets swept up in the social scene. Featuring beautiful costuming and music, plus Allen’s charm and wit. Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell and Parker Posey. The Lobster Equity USA - Meera Menon - 1 hr 40 min Filmed in Philadelphia, EQUITY is a female-driven Wall Street movie starring Emmy-winning Anna Gunn. A senior investment banker is involved in a financial scandal and must confront the web of corruption that surrounds her company. A gripping drama that unfolds like a high-stakes morality play with excellent performances from the lead actresses. Genius USA - Michael Grandage - 1 hr 44 min A chronicle of Max Perkins, the famous editor at Scribner. Colin Firth plays Perkins, who was responsible for discovering Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and many other celebrated writers. Firth is supported by an outstanding cast including Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, and Guy Pearce. MAIN ATTRACTIONS Dheepan The Light Between Oceans USA - Derek Cianfrance A new drama from the stylish director of Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines. Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander star as lighthouse operators in Australia who rescue a baby that they discovered in a rowboat adrift at sea. Set at the end of World War I, this family drama was adapted from the best selling novel of the same title. Also starring Rachel Weisz. Free State of Jones USA - Gary Ross Set at the height of the Civil War, Matthew McConaughey stars as a poor Southern farmer who leads a rebellion against the Confederate Army. Inspired by the life of Newton Knight, this drama explores the searing tension of the times. With a fantastic performance from McConaughey who is supported by Keri Russell and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. This new family must overcome a different set of struggles as they try to reconstruct their lives. When a tragedy strikes, the family is forced to leave their paradise and confront the outside world. A tender mix of comedy and drama. With a wonderful supporting performance by Frank Langella. C OUNTYT HEATER.ORG Maggie’s Plan USA - Rebecca Miller - 1 hr 32 min This offbeat romantic comedy stars Greta Gerwig as the independent Maggie who falls in love with a married professor/ writer played by Ethan Hawke. Over the course of three years, Maggie begins to have doubts about the strength of their relationship. Not all of the films in this series are classics from the Golden Age. Some are edgier. They were not made for the entire family. But they definitely were made to be seen on the big screen. A man on vacation with his family accidentally discovers an assassination plot and the conspirators attempt to keep him from exposing their plans. Classic Hitchcock suspense. 1959 - 2 hr 5 min - color - USA - DCP Universal - d: Douglas Sirk - w/ Lana Turner, John Gavin, Sandra Dee Douglas Sirk’s final Hollywood film has received a 4K restoration to return the film to its original glory. A young widow takes in a homeless African-American woman and her daughter to look after the housekeeping so she can pursue a career in acting. Sirk expertly tackles race, class, and gender in this signifcant melodrama. Winner of eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, KISS ME KATE vibrantly reimagines the plot as a backstage musical while a group of actors perform the Shakespeare play.
