A young married woman from Montreal’s Orthodox Jewish community finds freedom from the strictures of her faith
through her relationship with a young man who is mourning the death of his estranged father. In Maxime Giroux’s latest
feature, an unusual romance blossoms between two lost souls who inhabit the same neighbourhood but vastly different
worlds. Meira (Hadas Yaron) is a young Hasidic Jewish mother in Montreal’s Mile End district who secretly rebels against
her faith by listening to soul music and taking birth control pills; Félix (Martin Dubreuil) is a loner grieving the recent death
of his estranged father. Intrigued by Meira, Félix hopes her religious devotion will provide insight into his loss, and though
she rebuffs him at first a mutual affection soon arises between the two. As Meira’s desire for change becomes harder for
her to hide, the young woman is faced with a stark choice: remain within the community she has always known, or pursue
an uncertain future outside of it.

Fondé en 1998, le groupe Le Bal à l’Huile vous offre un répertoire traditionnel québécois
avec une touche originale et actuelle!
Redécouvrez des pièces qui étaient autrefois interprétées lors des veillées durant
lesquelles musiciens et chanteurs se rassemblaient autour d’une bonne vieille lampe à
l’huile pour créer ce qu’on appelait à l’époque : un vrai bal à l’huile!
Fidèle aux traditions orales et musicales, ce groupe se distingue notamment par la
qualité de l’harmonisation vocale. Six chanteurs donnent une couleur unique aux pièces
en répondant aux voix principales.

Discover music as it was played in the past, as musicians and singers gathered around a good
old oil lamp to create what was known as a "bal à l'huile" - an oil lamp party!
Faithful to traditional vocal and musical stylings, this band distinguishes itself primarily through
its captivating vocal harmonies. Six singers add a unique flavour to the songs as they respond to
the lead vocalists.

Number 4: French Speech Festival, Concours d’art oratoire; organized by Canadian Parents for French
– Kamloops
The French Speech Festival will be held Thursday, April 9, 2015. It is called Concours d'art oratoire and is
organized by Canadian Parents for French - Kamloops. Students present a memorized speech on their own or
with their class. We generally have over 300 children participate each year, so this is super cool to be involved
with and to go see.
All children from Kindergarten to grade 12 are invited to participate in the speech festival. Usually primary
children are involved with their class and teacher. However, if their class is not presenting and the
child/children would like to participate, they may sign up directly. Grades 4 and up may be involved through
their teacher or on their own, signing up directly with the Canadian Parents for French organizer.
This event is for anyone taking French: immersion, Francophone, standard core French. Students compete
against others in the same grade and in the same French language program. There are prizes for all participants.
Full details will be out in a separate email. The timing for the day will be set up once we have all the entries.
