Sanjay passed her Grade 2 exam and Andreas passed his Grade 1 exam with a merit. Just confirming TAPOFF academies will not be running this weekend due to the Holiday Break - This week’s top blogger for explaining what he thought the most important thing he was learning at school is: Ahmed Alqubaisi I think math is most important because learning to count will help me to count money at work. I will also be able to count money to give to charity. We are very lucky to have such talented pupils at our school. I’ve asked them to perform to us at the new Sunday Showcase - I can’t wait to hear them play. Well done!!! ISSUE NO.5 Back again ready to go next weekend - please pass onto any parents you know who might be turning up? Well done, I like how you are thinking about giving to charity. Remember to see Mrs McFarlane for a prize. http://almuna.edublogs.org/ This week’s blog question is: What have you done to help others? How did it make you feel? Sunday Showcase An exciting new feature for Al Muna is the Sunday Showcase. This is a chance for pupils, staff (and parents!) to perform in front of the school at the morning assembly. This week we had Year 4 Caracals perform the ABBA song ‘Mamma Mia’. They were amazing!!! We have some more brilliant performances coming up. AL MUNA PRIMARY SCHOOL ABU DHABI OCT 2014 NEWSMAKERS News from FS1 News from FS2 We have had a very sparkly week this week in FS1 singing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’. We have been making lots of stars using glitter and sequins – look out for them on display! To start off the week we had a ‘nurseryrhymeathon’ where all of the children managed to join in together and sing 4 nursery rhymes for donations for The Big Heart Foundation and the workers here in the UAE. Well done to the children and a big thank you for your very generous donations. We had a fantastic day today celebrating Eid, sharing food with our friends, making special Eid cards for our families and of course lots of bouncing on the bouncy castle! This week we have had lots of fun learning about and celebrating Eid. We really enjoyed taking part in our sponsored aerobics, we were very tired after it! We made Eid cards and designed our own henna prints. We really enjoyed trying all of the foods during our Eid celebrations, thank you to everyone who brought in donations! We would like to wish you all Eid Mubarak and we are looking forward to seeing you all rested after the long weekend. We have also enjoyed reading the story, ‘The Blackest Hole in Space’, learning the names of the planets and funny facts about space. Did you know a piece of ice as big as a sofa fell out of the sky and landed in India! In maths we have learnt the words ‘add’ and ‘equals’ and have tried to solve different space addition problems. News from Year 1 What rhymes with cat? Or mop? Or play? Ask your child. We have been learning about rhymes and rhyming this week and have even created group and individual poems. It was so much fun and often even quite funny. We played silly soup and made up silly rhymes. We have also been jumping along number lines to work out our addition sums. We got better and better as the week progressed. In science we have been exploring the sense of touch and taste and we enjoyed working with fruit – some of us had never either seen or tasted a rambutan before! We thought of lots of some great ‘wow words’ to describe the fruits too. We enjoyed celebrating Eid with our classes on Thursday and everyone is ready for lots more celebrating over the weekend. Have a safe and enjoyable Eid. ISSUE NO. 5 AL MUNA PRIMARY SCHOOL ABU DHABI OCT 2014 News from Year 2 News from Year 3 News from Year 4 In Year 2 this week we have had a great time planning, investigating and making our own healthy snacks. We have researched what fruit children like in the school and created graphs with the data.We have loved being entrepreneurs, creating posters to advertise our products and selling them to other children. Nurse Emma has been so pleased with our healthy choices. We have also had so much fun taking part in our swimming for charity. class teacher know. As we look back on another really busy week we would like to extend a big thank you to all in Year 3 who participated in our Eid celebrations and contributed to our charity drive. This week in literacy the children have been writing suspenseful story problems and extending the range of punctuation used in their writing. In maths the children have been examining various addition and subtraction strategies as well as word problems. In science, we have been focusing on shadows and the children enthusiastically designed their own sun dials. We also tested whether materials were opaque, transparent or translucent. The children’s ICT skills were developed during a filmmaking activity which required them to share their knowledge on Ancient Egypt whilst the art lesson involved the children sketching a patterned headdress for Queen Nefertiti, wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. Finally, on behalf of everyone in the Year 3 team, we wish you and your family a peaceful and restful Eid holiday. We started off the week with a pizza tasting session. Using our senses we evaluated different pizzas on their appearance, taste and smell and gave our overall opinion on them. This made us think about what we will include on our pizzas and how we will present them. It also give us a great selection of adjectives to use in our persuasive adverts in Literacy. We have started analysing other persuasive adverts and begun to create our own. We have considered the layout features, slogans, rhetorical questions, images and language that is used to persuade us. A delicious and creative week! Well done Year 4. The children have now completed their Aztec presentations on aspects of Aztec daily life, producing some very detailed and imaginative presentations. The task definitely highlighted children that took a positive role within their group to organise and present their research. Al Muna Swimming Costume/ Shorts & Bag with name written on. In literacy this week we have been working hard to tell a story from a character’s point of view by writing in the first person. We had a lot of fun role playing potential scenes from our stories.
