Welcome to Wickenburg! A western-style “Out Wickenburg Way” welcome to all of our visitors this weekend! We hope whether you’re a returning Gold Rush Days fan or a first-timer that you enjoy our 68TH Annual Gold Rush Days celebration. The Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce is very proud to sponsor this celebration of our ranching and mining heritage. Gold is what created this community – more specifically, the gold that Henry Wickenburg discovered in 1863. This true-west celebration has stood the test of time, bringing residents and visitors alike a taste of yesteryear. Governor Jan Brewer and the Arizona Office of Tourism selected Gold Rush Days as the Best Special Rural Event in 2011, and the Arizona Centennial Commission selected this celebration as one of the official events for the Arizona Centennial in 2012. Our Gold Rush Days NSPRA Rodeo was selected at the end of 2013 as Rodeo of the Year, and presented with a recognition plaque during last year’s rodeo. Most recently accolades came from American Cowboy Magazine naming this event as one of the 101 Best Events in the West! As a community entering our 153rd year we pause to remember and salute our settlers who founded a community we are so proud of. Western Hospitality is not a catch-penny phrase in Wickenburg. As befits this truly western town, hospitality and friendliness are a charming part of the town’s personality, as genuine and real as the surrounding hills. Visitors are welcome – whether your stay is an hour, a weekend, a month or a season. It isn’t important where you are from or who you are – the important thing is that you are here! Additionally at this time, I believe it is important to remember our members, volunteers and sponsors, whose contributions, volunteerism, and partnerships share in the success of this signature heritage event. Tip of the Stetson to our Presenting Sponsors again this year: Crescent Crown Distributing- Coors Banquet, and Trilogy at Wickenburg Ranch. Inside this program you will find information on our community, the scheduled activities during this weekend, and events planned for the rest of 2016. We invite you to come back and stay a day…..or two. You’ll enjoy the Real West….Out Wickenburg Way! Performances are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights starting at 7 p.m. at the historic Saguaro Theater downtown on Wickenburg Way. Tickets are $10 per person and are on sale now at the Chamber of Commerce. This year’s melodrama is She Was Only a Farmer’s Daughter and takes place in the parlor of Wickenburg’s Ye Olde Hassayampa Inn in the mid-1800s. The cast is comprised of both novice and veteran Desert Stagers. Born only a farmer’s daughter, Millie Spivens, the persecuted heroine (portrayed by Kristi Henson), has longed for an education so she travels to Prescott where she becomes a victim of that deep-dyed, despicable villain, Mulberry Foxhall (played by Dr. Edward Kirk, DDS). Mulberry forces his attentions on Millie, and in a weak moment she consents to become his wife. It is then that she encounters a strange woman who tells Millie that Mulberry is already married and is merely laying a trap for her. Millie, realizing the peril of her situation, returns to the farm, renouncing the wicked city and its sinful ways forever and hoping she will never have to deal with the treacherous villain again. But, alas, Mulberry appears at the inn suddenly and proceeds to make life intolerable for the farmer’s daughter. Millie’s family and friends attempt to help her, but no one knows her deep, dark secret. Osgood Smithers, the manly hero with the wavery tenor voice, is played by Spenser Lowe. Suzy Winzeler is Aunt Sally Spivens, who is suffering with “the asmy.” Ella Smithers, who runs the Hassayampa Inn, is portrayed by Connie Dierks. Adding to the mayhem are the wealthy, aristocratic Alice, Henry, and Lydia Smith. Alice Smith (played by Alisha Elliott) has been duped by Mulberry into a secret elopement. Of course, he is only after her money. Her furious, worried parents – also tipped off by that same strange woman – have come to prevent the marriage. They are portrayed by first-time Stagers Adriane and Catherine Blanco. Harvey and Mulberry share a criminal past, which adds greatly to the confusion and hilarity of this melodrama. And, to top it all off, Aunt Sally has a letter from Millie’s late father that she promised to deliver to his daughter after her 20th birthday. Its contents provide a topsy-turvy, dramatic climax. Preceding the melodrama each evening is a Vaudeville Show, with emcee CW, featuring local talented singers, musicians, poets, and novelty acts. The melodrama and vaudeville show are two of the most entertaining events during the annual Gold Rush Days celebration,, and since each night is usually a sellout, everyone is encouraged to purchase tickets early at the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce. Tickets for any of the performances that are not sold out will be available at the door. Founded in 1863 the miners, ranchers and farmers built homes along the fertile flood plain of the Hassayampa River. Many of these resourceful and committed settlers came from Sonora, Mexico, giving this area the distinction of being the northern edge of the Hispanic ranching frontier. The western ambiance, however, still thrives. The town has cherished the best traditions of its colorful early days, through annual events such as Gold Rush Days, Fiesta de Septiembre, Bluegrass Festival and Cowboy Christmas Poets Gathering. Horses and mules can still be seen with riders each day in the beautiful foothills surrounding the community. The variety of events each year brings local riders and visitor riders to participate in many equestrian activities. You’ll find cowboys on mules & horses participating in the Desert Caballeros Ride, and in the annual February Gold Rush Days Rodeo & parade, where a combination of entries makes this one of Arizona’s biggest senior pro rodeos and the 4th largest parade. Wickenburg boasts of many equestrian riding groups for adults and children. The year round activities bring the outdoors of this beautiful high desert community to young and old from the saddle. Wickenburg of today is a modern town with over 600 businesses providing a full range of services, shopping conveniences and specialty shops and galleries for gifts of western distinction. The western ambiance still thrives. A smiling welcome is in every greeting. Friendliness and the warm spirit of good neighborliness are as evident in Wickenburg as is the inexhaustible supply of sunshine. A visitor meets it at every turn, whether his mission leads him to business contacts with townspeople or to the ranches where the most hospitable hosts in the world bid welcome. Guest ranches offer a unique western experience to tourists who fell in love with the West. The Bar FX Ranch became the first true guest ranch in 1923, followed by the Remuda, Kay El Bar, Rancho de los Caballeros, and Flying E ranches, just to mention a few. The title of Dude Ranch Capital of the World and Arizona stayed with the Town of Wickenburg for over 50 years. Today, two true American Plan guest ranches remain – Rancho de los Caballeros, and Flying E Ranch. The European Plan ranch is Rancho Casitas, and another unique working cattle ranch is the Williams Hassayampa Canyon, which provides guests a unique hands-on experience. Western hospitality is no catchpenny phrase here. As befits this truly western town, hospitality and friendliness are a charming part of the town’s personality, as genuine and as real as the surrounding hills. Experience Wickenburg -- a town where visitors are warmly welcomed whether the stay is an hour, month, or season. It isn’t important where you’re from or who you are – the important thing is that you are here. The non-auditioned chorus is now a non-profit organization totally comprised of women, numbering 25 voices. Over the years the chorus has sung at various locales, and a variety of area churches. All types of music are presented, ranging from classical works to Broadway and pop standards. Under the direction of Camille Boyle and with piano accompaniment by Kay Anderson, the chorus recently entertained an enthusiastic audience at their annual Christmas concert. Please enjoy them at the opening ceremonies at 10:00 a.m. on Frontier Street, and look forward to hearing them again at both the melodrama and free stage near the the community center this weekend. , r t February 12-14, 2016 68th Gold Rush Days S R O T I S I V H S U R D L WELCOME OUR GO A Z A L P G N I P P O H S TO THE MECCA D\ : J U X E Q H N LF : ( Riata $IXQWUHDVXUHKXQWH[SHULFHQFH IHDWXULQJDUWMHZHOU\ FROOHFWLEOHVPRUH &XVWRP:HVWHUQ6DGGOHV %HOWV&KDSV7DFN:HVWHUQ 5HWDLO$]$XWKRU%RRNV :DOOHWV-HZHOU\&'V 928-684-0702 928-684-4999 +RPH'HFRU&URVVHV%DVNHWV +LJK)DVKLRQ&ORWKLQJ3RWWHU\ /DPSV3XUVHV-HZHOU\ www.RusticBarnAz.com o n h s :KHUH)ULHQGV0HHW 6SHFLDO*ROG5XVK0HQX ,QGRRU2XWGRRU6HDWLQJ 928-684-3527 My Designing Daughters +DQG&UDIWHG-HZHOU\ $FFHVVRULHV 928-684-8712 *RXUGV0DVNV-HZHOU\'UHDP &DWFKHUV4XLOWHGDQG:RYHQ,WHPV 'HVHUW6FHQH&KULVWPDV2UQDPHQWV 623-327-1458 a - Page 39 3OHQW\RI)5(( SDUNLQJMXVWGRZQ the street from Gold Rush Days Gold Rush Savings 20 % OFF Jackets Vests & T-Shirts 20% OFF 20 % OFF Ropers Heaven 2YHU Ropes in Stock All Kids Apparel Men’s Jeans and Shirts Wrangler Men’s Shirts & Jackets Wrangler Men’s Jeans 13MWZ $ 2299 Each 20 % Up to 36” Inseam 42” Waist 3 Pairs Minimum or $ 2499 OFF Each Stetson Stetson Mens Shirts & Jeans 20 % OFF Jeans 20 % OFF Sofas & Recliners Now iÃÊUÊ>`iÃÊ UÊ `Ài½Ã % 20 BOOTS OFF >`iÃÊ>`Ê Mens Sale Racks 20 % OFF For the Home, Ranch & Farm DOUBLE D WESTERN WORLD DOUBLE D RANCH & FEED RANCHO RIO ROPING ARENA 20 % OFF % - % OFF :HVW:LFNHQEXUJ:D\ 86+Z\ 1RUWK7HJQHU6WUHHW DOWNTOWN ROPING ARENA Tegner Street
