Over the past 200 years, American music has often defined who we are as a people. Few musician-songwriters evolved as rapidly as the Beatles during the 1960s. From very simple 3-chord pop tunes in their early years to complex lyrical themes and orchestral arrangements later in the decade, the evolution of their music contributed to the revolution of rock music across the planet. Two albums in particular, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour, pressed the edges of the envelope with the integration of complex musical arrangements into their hit records. This concert will honor the 200th anniversary of our national anthem with music of great American songwriters who always seemed to understand the soul of our country. Whether in war or peace, in cities or under the big sky, during prosperity and desperation, these songs remind us of the bonds that connect us all. On Valentine’s Day, Canadian rock band Jeans ‘n Classics will team up with the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra to revisit this era of Beatles music. Show your Valentine that “all you need is love” by bringing them to a night of great Beatles music you will remember long after you’re sixty-four. Holiday Pops December 19, 2014 | 7:30pm December 20, 2014 | 2:30pm Few events evoke the Christmas Spirit as thoroughly as the annual Holiday Pops concert. The Green Bay Symphony Orchestra, The Dudley Birder Chorale, and Birder Studio of Performing Arts all team up to present a program of Christmas Carols and Holiday Favorites. For two decades, this concert has been a tradition in the Green Bay area, and continues to leave audiences with a glow that lasts throughout the Holiday Season. An Evening of Brass & Organ January 10, 2015 | 7:30pm What better way to heat up a cold and dark January evening than with the bright and majestic sounds of great brass and organ music? This season the talented and versatile GBSO brass and percussion musicians will again team up with organist Jeff Verkeuilen to present a selection of wonderful classic works. Octavio Mas-Arocas, himself a trumpet player, will conduct the concert. And the hall’s fabulous Wood Family organ, Opus 3702 will echo throughout the auditorium. About Jeans ‘n Classics: Peter Brennan’s Jeans ‘n Classics is a winner! Since its inception, it has been a star performer in the arts and entertainment scene. Its concept of combining rock musicians and headlining stars with world-class symphony orchestras has drawn record-setting capacity crowds. April 11, 2015 | 7:30pm Since 1967 the GBSO has operated a highly successful Youth Orchestra program. For nearly a half-century this program has educated and graduated young musicians, many of whom have gone to careers in music. To close out our farewell season, it is only fitting that we celebrate the achievement of the Youth Orchestra program with this very special concert. Graduates of the program who are currently professional musicians will be invited “back home” to perform as guest soloists with the GBSO. And finally, we will assemble members of the youth symphony together with the GBSO on stage to truly end the season on a high note.
