That’s a large number! That’s why we invited Dr. Dan Friedman to discuss stroke education on Wednesday, February 19th, at 1:30 pm in the Party Room. Friday, February 14th 1:30 pm in the Party Room A stroke is caused when blood flow is obstructed, or when an artery leading to the brain ruptures. People who experience a stroke may lose the ability to speak, suffer memory problems, or become paralyzed along one side of their body. Celebrate Valentine’s Day in style! Join us for an extraordinary afternoon of guitar artistry by Brooks Robertson & John Standefer! The concert begins in the Party Room at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 14th. Knowing what to do in such an event can be key in preventing complications and long-term disability. Learning about the latest treatment strategies and why early response to stroke symptoms is crucial. In concert, both Brooks Robertson and John Standefer can delight audiences with guitar solos that feature their own individual styles. Then, when they combine forces, a whole new sound emerges. It’s like getting three acts in one! Still in his early 20s, Brooks Robertson was recently voted Portland, Oregon’s “Best Emerging Artist” by Deli magazine. Veteran guitarist John Standefer is a true master of fingerstyle guitar. John has travelled throughout the U.S. and abroad performing concerts, teaching master classes, and performing and recording with an impressive list of other artists. Dr. Friedman will be sharing signs and symptoms of a stroke as well as other stroke recognition techniques. He will review the diagnostic testing needed and possible treatments for stroke. Dr. Daniel K. Friedman specializes in neurology at Tuality Healthcare in Hillsboro, Oregon. He is also the head of the Stroke Team at Tuality Healthcare and is passionate about stroke education in the community. Each welcome box was personalized with a message for the child letting them know that they are loved. Cornell Estates received an outstanding amount of support, donations, and volunteers for their service project. On Monday, January 20th, Cornell Estates residents assembled welcome boxes for foster children. These welcome boxes will be donated to “Embrace Oregon” who gives these boxes to foster children in the process of being placed in a new home. Most of the items were donated by Cornell Estates residents. We would not have been able to fill the boxes without their help! This service project at Cornell Estates also caught the ear of businesses in the community. New Seasons in Hillsboro heard about the project and offered to make a monetary donation to Embrace Oregon. It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we all work together! A HUGE thank you to everybody who donated to the project – whether it was items, money, or time. We appreciate all you did to help make the National Day of Service a success! There is a substantial wait time in the welfare office while a child is in between their foster home and a new home. It can be a very scary time in an unfamiliar place. These boxes serve as a comfort to the children and also provide them something that is theirs to bring into their new home. Embrace Oregon seeks to connect caring individuals and families with vulnerable children in partnership with Department of Human Services Child Welfare for the betterment and thriving of our Portland Metro community. If you are interested in learning more about the organization or would like to donate, please email [email protected]. With the help of the local Girl Scout Troup, community members, and Hillsboro Senior Center members, Cornell Estates was able to assemble eleven welcome boxes for Embrace Oregon.
