We have started this year out with a bang. Your divan has been spending every
weekend traveling to Shrine Club Installations for the new officers. We look forward
to this every year as we get to visit many of the Shriners that we don’t get to see
often, but rest assured, these Shriners are working hard to do their part for our
fraternity and hospitals.
Now is the time to start putting all your efforts toward our Circus. THINK, CIRCUS! CIRCUS! CIRCUS!
We all know that the Circus is our largest fund raiser. This exciting event is less than two months away so it is definitely time
to get out there and sell tickets, electronic banners, ads and distribution of as many free child coupon tickets as you possibly
can. Bring your family and friends to see one of the best and most exciting Circuses ever. Billboards are going up, television
commercials are being aired, and bumper stickers are on display. Yard signs are out everywhere, tickets are already selling and
the most important ingredient to a successful circus is “YOU”.
Thank you to the Moolah Shriners and families for their continued support in making this event such a success. Again this year,
with the sale of two books of tickets you will receive a new circus hat, for five books of tickets you will receive an awesome circus
shirt, and for ten books of tickets you will receive a Ringmaster Jacket. I hope to see all of you at the Circus March 19-22.
The Circus Kick-Off will be March 7 in the Moolah Shrine Center Gym. Join us on this fun filled day of games, petting zoo, food
and refreshments. This is a FREE event to kick off the Circus so save the date and join us for a great time.
The Potentate Presentation Ball will be February 28. Lady Christine and I would love to have you join us for this special evening.
This year’s ball will have a Circus theme. The dress is black tie/dark suite with circus accessories (bright colored vest, bright
colored bow ties, crazy suspenders, clown shoes, etc.) Use your imagination and have fun. Please make your reservations
soon to get in on this fun filled and special evening.
April 4 will be the First Ceremonial of the year in honor of Most Worshipful David Haywood, Grand Master of Missouri. Let’s
fill the ballroom with new candidates. Talk to your lodges and get this information on their trestle boards. We are asking every
member of Moolah to bring in one new quality member this year. Do you accept the challenge? I hope to see you there with your
new candidate.

A New Day is Dawning
’m writing this article on the first Sunday of 2015, so here we are at the start
of a new year. By the time you read this, it will be Feb. 2015. Most of us made
“resolutions” of one type or another back on Jan. 1. But here it is only a month later
and like most people we’re already NOT keeping them. Why? Because we don’t
have “the secret” answer as to how to keep them. There IS a secret to keeping a
New Year’s resolution. And it’s found in Scripture. In Proverbs 16, verse 3 wise King
Solomon wrote “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”
In other words, whatever we start to do, if we’re doing it to please God, we have a
much better chance of finishing it.
This morning at church we sang a beautiful hymn titled, “Another Year Is
Dawning”. A perfect song to start off the New Year. The lyrics: Another year is
dawning, dear Father, let it be, In working or in waiting, another year with Thee;
Another year of progress, another year of praise, Another year of proving Thy
presence all the days. Another year of mercies, of faithfulness and grace, Another
year of gladness in the shining of Thy face; Another year of leaning upon Thy loving
breast; Another year of trusting, of quiet, happy rest. Another year of service, of
witness for Thy love, Another year of training for holier work above; Another year is
dawning, dear Father let it be On earth, or else in Heaven, another year for Thee.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us a whole new year in which to
honor and worship You. Please help us to try and please you in everything we do.
Amen and So Mote It Be.

Hospital Van Drivers Needed
The Guides provide free transportation to and from the Shriners Hospital for patients and
families seven days a week. Over 15,000 trips have been made. The Guides have provided
the Hospital Van and the drivers since 1990. Each trip requires two volunteers, a driver and
a rider for legal and safety reasons. Many days we have several runs and on some days
we have only one or none. This service has been provided by the Guides Unit for years and
requires many volunteers. Ideally two people can volunteer to be the Van team the same
days each week. Lately we have had some real challenges with having enough drivers/
riders to maintain this long standing service for our patients and their families. The actual
drivers need to be registered (short process) but anyone can assist as a rider until this is
completed. We now need some volunteers from other Units in the Shrine to help us.

A Note from the
Administrator’s Desk
I sincerely want to thank Illustrious Sir Stephen Pieper, P.P.
for his 10 years of service as Moolah’s Administrator. And
most recently for helping me get my feet on the ground this
past month. I have a huge task ahead of me and I’m up for
the challenge. I wanted to use this opportunity to help keep
you informed on issues and concerns that occur from time
to time at the Shrine Center.
First, I would like to announce and welcome Lauren
Schaefer as a new addition to Moolah’s staff. She is currently a senior at Lindenwood University working on her
Bachelors in Graphic Designs. She has an Associates
in Computer Graphics from Lewis and Clark Community
College. Lauren will fill the vacancy of Karen Arnold that
recently left Moolah. Lauren has quickly stepped in at
developing graphics, signs, posters and information that will
be needed for our circus. She will be part time while still
attending classes at Lindenwood. She brings a wealth of
knowledge that was missing from our staff.
I have a request for volunteer help. My goal is to set up
an email list to send out periodically giving tasks that need
to be completed with days, times and number of volunteers.
These tasks would consist of answering the phones, stuffing large mailings, selling circus tickets, etc. Also, those
with computer skills would be helpful. I promise that the
volunteer work would not consist of any hard physical work.

It has been brought to my attention that during Shrine
stated meeting nights that parking in drive ways has been
causing some issues. Please be aware of keeping drive
ways open and passable for ease of traffic and emergency
vehicles. There should be plenty of spaces available.
Thanks for your consideration on this issue.
On one final note, please use email whenever possible
if you need information or need to leave information for
Monica. Her voice mail is getting extremely busy and it
takes time to listen to her messages when reading emails is
much faster. I request that you reach out to me by phone
or email along with Monica if you need help or have a question so that Monica’s work load gets a little lighter.

Mark your calendars with these important Circus Dates.
March 7th – Circus Kick-off at Moolah Shrine Center.
March 14th – The Shrine Circus Parade is partnering with Cottleville. We have merged our Circus Parade with the Cottleville
St. Patrick’s Parade. This is the largest parade in the area and
we are asking that all Moolah Units participate. This is a St.
Pat’s Day Parade but we are asking all Units to get creative and
have a “Circus Theme”.
March 19th through the 22nd the Moolah Shrine Circus returns
to the St. Charles Family Arena. We will have a great time in
the tent and will have food and beverages for you to enjoy.
There will be a Grand Entry at 6 of the 8 performances. We will
not have Grand Entry at the “two morning performances.”
We need everyone to give one last push for Ads for the
program, and sell sponsorships. The easiest sponsorship to sell
is the “Banner Program”. For $500 we will display an electronic
banner at every performance and they will receive 2 books of
tickets ($300 value). There is a flyer in the Camel’s Tales or you
can pick up copies in the office.
There are additional levels of Corporate Sponsorships above
and beyond the $500 Banners and you can get a handbook
from the office with all the information. Stop by the office and
pick up your copy today.
By now you should have seen our Billboards on I-70 and
I-370 in St. Charles. They went up in early January and there
are several more going up on March 1st around St. Louis.
You probably received the Town Planner in the past couple
of months and the Circus is well represented in the month of
March.

A
nother busy month and it is going to be
that way until the circus is over. But that’s
the way we like it. For our unit this is the
most exciting time of the year. The upcoming
events at the dome really help us all get intune for all the kids we will meet at the Family
Arena. We use these events to practice our
skills with balloon making and face painting.
But more importantly, developing our own
different styles of clowning. This includes the
way we approach the kids and the different
things we can say and do. Some work out ok
and the others we won’t ever try again. We
try to develop the fine art of reading people.
Most of the time the reaction you give a child
is determinined by what you can see in their
eyes. Those show they are either happy to see
you or scared to death of you. Our practice in
the coming months at these events is important
so we can change that scared kid into a happy
one. How you do it is up to you.
Everybody has their own style. My style
came from my first year of clowning and
watching all the senior clowns. If you have
just joined us, you have missed some good
ones. Foooey and Skippy, you are saddly
missed. Those two and our other senior
clowns were with me all the time when I was in
character. The words they would use or their
little gimmicks were all different and it was fun
to watch them. Now I didn’t always see things
go as planned, but I saw how quickly they
adapted to the different situations. So, after
studying all of their craft I am able to adapt it
in my character. I guess you can say I stole
it but they can never catch me because I will
never use what they do in front of them. That’s
a no no. So now you know I plagiarized my
whole clown act similar to my college classes.
Anyway, it seemed to work out for me in the
long run. Remind me to take your picture
and then thank Tuna (Charlie Reider) as your
wiping your face off. I am also waiting to use
the three piece chicken dinner gag but I’m
afraid I’ll get my legs broken if I do that one.
A couple of hospital stays to tell you about
this month. It seems Freckles (Tom Coriell)
had to visit one for awhile in Arizona. Can you
imagine going that far so none of us can have
the chance to harass him while recovering.
Also Kathy and Gametime (Paul Goggins) had
a little boy Brennan last month and all are doing
well. Congrats brother.

Camels’ Tales, is more rewarding than is
deserved. If the enjoyment of their reading has
been as much fun as has been our writing, we
have both prospered...mine being the greatest
reward. Your words of praise are more than
adequate payment for the labor of our writing.

Enough about reading and writing, Chanter
targets abound...full speed ahead. The
Chanter train is on the move. We’re up to the
task and ready to burst into song.
All we need is more to do! Find us some
gigs. Burden our schedule with more than
most groups can handle...It’s been said before,
now hear it again...we’re up to the task...bring
it on!
Paraphrasing a lyric from McNamara’ Band,
“Although we’re few in number we’re the best
in Moolah Land.”
Numbers are fast becoming a plague in
the Shrine and especially in the Chanter Unit.
Ours is not merely a problem of numbers,
we are victims of the need for balance. For
instance, we must have a balance of basses,
baritones, with first and second tenors for
proper blending. Those wanting to be a part
of a fun and rewarding group will be amazed at
how quickly and adequately they fit the needs
to blend.
In December, our own, Chanter Noble
Bill Bradford, was honored as Shriner of the
Month. But that’s not enough for this hard
working and able Shriner...Now he’s an Aide.
What an honor to have him with us.
You want satisfaction...It abounds in the
Shrine. It’s fun in many units, but with The
Chanters your satisfaction is magnified many
fold through the joy singing brings to your soul.
For those reading, this article, bring us your
people...we’ll train.

ey there, Nobles! Have you ever heard of Pule? No? Well,
H
Pule is the rarest, most expensive cheese on the planet.
Produced in one of Serbia’s most famous natural reserves,
Zasavica, it is made from donkey’s milk, and has a price tag of
roughly $610.44, for just slightly over one pound. Why is this
even coming up, you ask? Well, the Directors Staff’s Mouse
Races, the one we’ve been touting for a few months, has once
again been cancelled. While we’re not sure of the full details, it
appears that the fellow that runs the show is fresh out of Pule,
and he only uses the best for his stable mice. With there being
an alarming shortage of Pule, and knowing his stables were
diminishing -- the strong becoming fat blobs, having only low-end
American cheese slices to sustain them – we felt it imperative to
postpone our venture into rodent sports indefinitely. It was a hard
decision, but we really couldn’t expect these delicate creatures
to perform in top form without their strict diet, and well, they’re
dropping like Mayflies -- the “strong” looking more like bloated,
yet malnourished rats, than nimble athletes. We’d better not see
any Nobles partaking of Pule, when there are rodents deprived of
their daily nourishment. Thank you to all for complying, and your
continued support.
In other news, we want to remind everyone that there is a
TCAA Mass Meeting on February 25th, and we have added a
second meeting each month, in the Directors Staff Unit room. We
figured we just don’t hang out enough, so we decided to double
up. The first Monday of the month will still be our monthly stated
meeting, at 7pm. As usual, come early, and feel free to stay late.
Our second meeting will take place on the third Monday of each
month. These nights will be set aside as – get this – “Work/Play”
Nights. We will usually start about 6pm, doing much needed
upkeep of the Unit’s room, storage, planning of events – whatever
needs to be done. And of course there will be card games,
billiards, good food, drinks a-flowing, and shenanigans galore.
President Bill Spurgeon impressed the heck out of us with his
wicked-chili at our “Work/Play” Night last month. This is what
we’re about right here! Food, Fun, and Brotherhood.
We have a 50/50 drawing, and a drawing for a free bar card
at our meetings. One has to be present to win. Our loser of the
month for the bar card (last month) was Brother Greg Dortch.

he Drum and Bugle Corps extends its heartiest congratulations

to the 126th Potentate of Moolah Temple, Illustrious Sir David
Dieckhaus and the Divan who were elected at the December
Shrine Meeting. The Potentate has selected Dennis Burkholder
to serve as Outer Guard for the year. Our own Victor Dane was
advanced to Chief Rabban and is also Circus Chairman for 2015.
We wish the Divan the very best and know that with this fine slate
of officers Moolah Temple will have another successful year. The
Potentate has appointed Tom Duke as Director for another year.
Director Tom has asked Rick Gwydir and David Glenn to continue
as Assistant Directors for 2015. John Hewitt remains as Chairman
of the Ambassadors and is also Chief Aide Emeritus. Al Jants is
Chairman of the Athletic Committee and Don Baur and Jim Hubeli
are Aides Emeritus. Richard Watts has retired as Co-Chairman of the
Membership Committee after 5 years of excellent service but remains
as an Aide. Bob Atwell will continue as President of the Seniors.
The Drum Corps had their Christmas Party in their remodeled and
updated room on December 19. We had excellent food and lots of
it along with delicious desserts provided by the ladies. All the ladies
received a nice gift. We were pleased and honored to have Potentate
Dennis Kelley and Kathy and Potentate elect David Dieckhaus and
Christine in attendance. Other Divan members and Past Potentates
that attended were Victor along with Ann Dane, Illustrious Sirs Steve
Pieper and Jim and Louise Brandenburg. Thanks to Betty Westbrock
who informed us of other widows. Unfortunately we have lost
three in the last two weeks of 2014. Bobbie Dowling passed away
on December 15, the widow of the late Joe Dowling, President

ur Christmas concert season was
memorable this year, playing
more concerts than usual and at
several new retirement centers. The
audiences were very enthusiastic and
the residents really got into the music,
singing and just enjoying listening.
We have a great time playing for them
and they genuinely appreciate our
visits. This is an excellent way for us to
promote Shrinedom and Freemasonry
as we reach out to the community.
We enjoyed playing for Brunch with
Santa and the party for the kids from
the hospital, as well as the Band party
where everyone had time to socialize
without having to entertain
an audience.
Soon it will be Circus time again and
we will be in the parade at the new
location in Cottleville. The City of
Cottleville has a great St. Patrick’s Day
parade which coincides with the Shrine
Circus and draws a huge audience.
Another great way to promote our
fraternity and the work the
hospitals do.
We want to support Illustrious Sir
David Dieckhaus and his plans for
Moolah Temple this year. So, come
see us on Wednesday nights at 7:30
and rekindle the fun you had when
you were in the school band. We are
looking for new members, especially
Nobles who are interested in spreading
the word of what Shriners do for
the kids by supporting the Shriners
Hospitals for Children. You may be a
Noble who is looking for a home where
you can make use of your musical
talents! If that is the case, please

League has come to an end. The Ceremonial Cast came out on top followed
by Cast II, Reception Committee, Drum

the Arab Patrol. What a great session
it was---a 300 game was bowled—but
it was by someone in another league.
Lots of discussions about powder and
popcorn on the alleys—After a bit of
research, according to Rule 1569 Section 5 Paragraph 3 Lines 3-9 powder is
permitted on the alley, shoes and any
other body part as long as it is white.
By the way, the popcorn is pretty good
but you have to get it early because the
snack bar likes to close before we have
finished bowling.

dedication. She realized the old saying, “It takes a
village,” is true. A successful year can’t be accomplished
without everyone working together. We wish all the
best for the 2015 officers and know they will also get
everyone’s cooperation.

Only $15 to play and that includes the shoe rental. This event
will be held on April 12th from 1 to 4pm at Olivette Lanes
and should be great fun for the whole family. We hope to
see everyone there for a relaxing afternoon with friends.

9 of the 16 Charter members who are still Noble Lodge
members were presented a certificate by MWB David Haywood.
A special prayer by RWB Nickolas Cichielo and moment of
silence was observed for our four Charter members who have
passed away; Tom Hunter, Alan Pinkstaff, Lou Heins and Ed
Kellogg and three Noble Lodge members who have passed
away; George Zidzik, James Andrews and Chuck Jabara. RWB
Ty Treutelaar delivered an inspiring talk on the Masters Closing
Charge. It was an exceptional night of brotherly love!
Noble Lodge sponsored a MOCHIP program at Moolah
Temple on Saturday December 13th during the Brunch with
Santa. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out. The
lodge sponsored 20 families in need from the Pattonville School
district and presented them with a special gift bag that contained
a gift certificate from Schnucks, Wehrenberg Movie Tickets,
Moolah Shrine Circus tickets, toys and gifts for their children.
It’s time to bring in a new member! You can be the 1st line
signer of your candidate’s petition. Only one signer of a Masonic
petition needs to be from Noble Lodge, the other signer can be
from any Lodge. Keep this in mind if you have a candidate. It
all starts with you submitting the petition for your candidate. The
petition will be received at our next meeting and your candidate
will be notified. In most cases he will be invited to attend the
next meeting, meet with the investigating committee and then
his EA degree will be scheduled. If you have a candidate for the
Spring Ceremonial, now would be a good time to get him started!

invited Sue Jones to give the invocation after which she led
us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.
Our Honorary President Kathy made her introductions
and expressed her thanks for our support all year.
After Mary made her introductions she invited retiring
Administrator Steve Pieper to the podium and after thanking
him for his support and guidance, she presented him with a
plague of appreciation from The Temple Club.
Jeanne Smith in her usual unique and clever manner
then proceeded to install our new officers. Each officer was
linked to a special angel with very interesting information
for each one. Installed were Tony Burst, President; Gloria
Means, Vice President; Kathy Myers, Secretary; and Janet
Loesch, Treasurer. According to custom, badges, pins and
keys were exchanged and retiring President Mary gave
each new officer a lovely red rose.
After a delicious luncheon we enjoyed a visit from Santa
(he looked like Vic Dane, Jr.) who related many interesting
and adorable incidents he has had with children while
playing Santa. Thanks Santa or Vic. You are the greatest.
We had our picture taken for the Circus Ad Book and
then hurried to collect our treasures from the Bake Sale
leaving for home while visions of sugar plums danced in
our heads.

he American Muscle Unit exists

to support our Shrine and our
Shriners Hospitals for Children through
our activities and funds raised. We
represent the Shrine by showing and
parading our American Muscle Cars
and our motorized Magic Carpets.
The year 2014 was exciting for the
members of the American Muscle
Unit. Under President Keith Schilb,
we participated in a record number of
activities and fund-raisers.
In 2014, our Magic Carpet parade
vehicles were upgraded with new, highpowered engines. You will see them
again this year at the Circus. Plans are
underway to construct additional Magic
Carpets, including an automobilesize vehicle affectionately called “The
Mother Ship”. We hope to have it done
in time for parades later in the year.
The unit assisted the Swing Dance
Unit with novelty sales at the Circus in
March, and conducted our first annual
gun raffle that concluded in June.
American Muscle Unit participated in
the Hazelwood Harvestfest and the
Buick Backyard BBQ in September,
the Motor Patrol “Ride for a Cure” in
October and most importantly, our
annual Veteran’s Day BBQ for the
soldiers and staff at the Jefferson
Barracks.
This year, American Muscle Unit
conducted the BBQ for over 100
veterans in conjunction with the
BBQ Smokin Nobles Unit. And 2015
promises to be an even more
exciting year!
If you have a muscle car you would
like to show or parade, join us. If you
do not have a muscle car but would
like to drive one of our Magic Carpets,
join us! If you would like to show your
appreciation to our wounded veterans
at Jefferson Barracks, join us. We
meet the second Wednesday of every
month at 6:30 pm in the Unit Room we
share with the Hospital Committee. We
hope to see you there.
