History:
Entrepreneur Raj P. Bhakta founded WhistlePig in
2007 with a single goal in mind: creating the world’s
finest 100% rye whiskeys. In service of this vision,
Bhakta spent his life’s savings on a 500-acre farm in
Shoreham, VT – the brand’s home, headquarters and
site of its future distillery. He also enlisted the help
of one of the whiskey world’s leading lights, former
Maker’s Mark Master Distiller Dave Pickerell. Together,
they set about bringing 100% rye whiskey back to its
well-deserved position as the nation’s signature spirit.
In curating the brand’s top-shelf offerings, Pickerell
spent over a year scouring the world for the most
exquisite old-stock ryes. The unparalleled quality is
most evident in the purity of WhistlePig’s offerings:
Unlike almost every other rye brand on the market,
WhistlePig specializes in 100% single-strain aged rye
whiskey. In 2010, WhistlePig’s first release – a 10-year,
100-proof, 100% rye – made the whiskey world stand
up and take notice. The 100/100 received Wine
Enthusiast’s highest-ever rating for a rye whiskey at
96 points, while The Wall Street Journal called it “the
essence of rye”. After years spent restoring one of
the oldest farms in Vermont, WhistlePig will officially
open its first distillery on July 4, 2015 at its 1300-acre
working agricultural headquarters in Shoreham.
