Congratulations
to all of our honorees. We are
here this evening to express our respect and appreciation for a group
of outstanding individuals. As the newest award winners, you are
representatives of the best we have to offer in the College and serve
as role models for future generations of engineers.
Those honored tonight, as well as those who have been honored
at past ceremonies, are stellar examples of the achievements and
leadership inspired by Georgia Tech engineers. As leaders in your
field, you have contributed to a heightened awareness of engineering
and its role in society.
The potential for excellence can be found in each of us. How
lucky you all are to have realized your own. Each of you has risen
to prominence in your field, and while you come from different
times and places, I see a common thread, a purpose that transcends
any differences. You found the intrinsic value that lies in higher
education. You have made the most of your degree from Georgia
Tech, and we salute what you have achieved.
A hallmark of the College of Engineering has always been its
exceptional alumni and supporters. You have contributed in
countless ways to the field of engineering and to Georgia Tech. The
continued devotion of our alumni and friends, as evidenced here
tonight, is proof that the mission of Georgia Tech and the College
of Engineering is alive and thriving, and we applaud the successes of
our most valuable assets: you.

Gary S. May
Dean, College of Engineering
Georgia Institute of Technology
from T h e P r e s i d e n t
Welcome to one of the College of Engineering’s
most important celebrations, as we recognize and honor the many
accomplishments of some of the Institute’s most distinguished
engineering alumni. I extend sincere congratulations to all those
being recognized and honored here tonight. Your professional
success, leadership prowess, and community involvement serve not
only as an inspiration for our younger alumni and current students,
but also as a vital aspect of Georgia Tech’s enduring reputation for
excellence and innovation.
High standards, hard work and entrepreneurial drive are hallmarks
of Georgia Tech graduates. Our honorees are at various stages in
their careers, but they all share these traits. All of them in their own
way have made their mark in their respective fields, be it academia,

government or industry, and tonight I am exceedingly proud to see
them receive awards.
As living examples of the Georgia Tech ethos, tonight’s honorees
have something else in common: an unmatched technological
education, along with the ability to think critically and address
complex challenges, and the determination to have a positive impact
on our world.
On behalf of the entire Georgia Tech community, I thank you for
all you have done and continue to do for your own organization,
the Institute, and our nation through your service and commitment
to excellence. I hope that you will thoroughly enjoy this exciting
evening as you celebrate the outstanding achievements of those
receiving a College of Engineering Alumni Award.

innovative,
broadly
knowledgeable,
and
globally competent, with the ability and
resources to transcend geographic, cultural,
and ideological boundaries. Georgia Tech’s
College of Engineering is a place where
today’s students are developed as tomorrow’s
thinkers, leaders, and creators who can
succeed in and manage our extraordinarily
complex world.

Dean’s Appreciation A wa r d
It is acknowledged that the College of Engineering has many valued supporters who are recognized and appreciated
continuously during the course of the on-going activities in the college. This award is intended to honor those special
individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of the College of Engineering. The award
may go to engineering alumni or to honor non-engineering alumni who have brought distinction to the College of
Engineering and Georgia Tech.

History of T h e A l u m n i A wa r d s
The College of Engineering Alumni Awards were created in 1994 under the leadership of Dr. John A. White during
his tenure as Dean. He stated, “…being students at Georgia Tech, you have had a significant impact on the world.
Those who wonder why Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering enjoys an impeccable reputation need only look at
your accomplishments.” Subsequently, he passed the torch to Dr. Jean-Lou Chameau, former Georgia Tech Provost
and Engineering Dean, whose outstanding service to the College of Engineering led him to receive the 2006 Dean’s
Appreciation Award from then-Dean Dr. Don P. Giddens, a Tech engineering alumnus. The alumni awards program is
now under the leadership of current Dean Dr. Gary S. May, who received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
from Georgia Tech. Each year, the College of Engineering recognizes, with an induction ceremony, select alumni who
have contributed to the profession, advanced in their careers, and enhanced the lives of others both personally and
professionally. These outstanding alumni are reviewed by committees within each of the eight schools within the College
and formally submitted for selection.

“Ramblin’ Wreck”
I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer,
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear,
I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer.
Oh, if I had a daughter, sir, I’d dress her in White and Gold,
And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son, sir, I’ll tell you what he’d do.
He would yell, “To hell with Georgia,” like his daddy used to do.
Oh, I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds,
A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it around.
I’d drink to all good fellows who come from far and near.
I’m a ramblin’, gamblin’, hell of an engineer!
