Echo is designed
to build a holistic
foundation for
interns intellectually,
emotionally, relationally
and spiritually, and
launch them into their
future, while earning
some college credits.
Echo is not just for
those who feel called
to full-time ministry,
it’s a program that
prepares them for a life
of ministry.
The
3 elements of ECHO:
1. PRACTICAL MINISTRY EXPERIENCE
Interns will work alongside Bethany
leaders in their chosen area.
2. GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT
Interns will spend four weeks on a
missions experience.
3. EDUCATION
Interns will earn college credits through
Emmanual Bible College.
Get the truth and never sell it;
also get wisdom, discipline,
and good judgment.
Proverbs 23:23

PRACTICA
L
MINISTRY E
XPERIENCE
Interns will focus their time and creativity, with
hands-on opportunities for growth, in the areas of
Children’s Work, Youth Work, Worship Arts, Urban
Outreach and Creative Media. Students will be
coached by and work alongside experienced Bethany
Community Church leaders in their chosen area.
Interns will be challenged to stretch their skills and
faith as they encounter the power of God working in
and through them. Each Director will develop a role
description specific to the interns under their care and
will involve them fully in the life of their ministry. They
will connect weekly for coaching and direction.
FOCUS ON CHILDREN
The children’s work focus will help shape interns not only through teaching
children of various ages in classroom settings and lesson planning, but also
through the management of volunteers and organizing larger-scale Children’s
Ministry events. Interns will have opportunities to focus on a range of children’s
programs, such as Sunday KidsZone, BLAST on Wednesday nights or Upward
Sports.
FOCUS ON YOUTH
FOCUS ON WORSHIP
The youth work focus equips interns to be
well-rounded leaders in any vocation. Interns will be
positioned to manage others, organize large-scale
events geared towards teens, and mature in pastoral
care and leadership.
The worship arts focus is designed to empower
interns to sharpen their creative gifts in a Church
context. Connecting theology and creativity
through opportunities, such as music, song-writing,
worship leading, visual arts and drama will give
students a perspective of worship as a way of life.
FOCUS ON URBAN OUTREACH
FOCUS ON CREATIVE MEDIA
The urban outreach focus cultivates a passion
in students for what God is doing through the
local church and para-church organizations
within the Niagara Region. Interns will partner
extensively with Youth Unlimited in caring for
the needs of urban families and youth through
“The Deck’”’ drop-in centre and their various
programs.
The creative media focus gives interns
hands-on experience with professional church
video production, graphic design, marketing
and communication, and live event production.
Interns will be equipped with essential skills that
reach into the media and design industries to
bring glory to God.

GLOBAL
T
ENGAGEMEN
London, England is one of the most international cities in the world. Representatives
from nearly every Muslim country can be found living within the city’s boundaries
and increasing in numbers each week.
Interns will spend four weeks in England with Jay Smith and Team from Pfander
Centre for Apologetics. During that time they will
receive training, which will equip them to better

in North London, and the

in Central London.
The strategy and
evangelism is based around these church plants,
and is the reason for much of what interns will be
doing.
You will be equipped and empowered to be a
confident Christian, but it will be your step of faith
and boldness that will take you there. Beyond that,
you can take the skills you have learned while at
the Pfander Centre for Apologetics and continue to
minister wherever God leads you. Time will also be set
aside for sightseeing.

HOLISTIC
EDUCATION
Enrolling with Echo doesn’t mean you will lose
a year of school. Echo interns will be enrolled at
Emmanuel Bible College (EBC) in Kitchener, where
they’ll complete four general education courses
that can be transferred to other Bible or Liberal
Arts colleges in Ontario. Courses will be completed
on location at Bethany Community Church with
an EBC professor and team facilitator helping to
assimilate theory into knowledge. Courses include:
Leadership Development (CM112AA)
Foundational leadership concepts will be discussed through the
lens of biblical principles. This course will explore a wide variety
of leadership elements including vision development, functions
of a leader, conflict resolution, life cycles, leadership styles,
delegation and supervision.
Perspectives on Global Christianity (IS111AA)
The global church has experienced a seismic shift in growth
from the West to the East and South. How has this come
about? This course considers the biblical basis, historical roots,
and strategic and cultural issues involved in this shift. It will
highlight key themes in global ministry as well as study the
disproportionate distribution of wealth and its impact on the
global Church.
Ethics (GP382AA)
A study and evaluation of ethical principles with reflective
discussions of current moral issues.
Interpretation and Application of the Biblical Text
(BI210BA)
This course will focus on the principles for interpreting the
diverse genres in the Bible. Focus will be given to the meaning
of the text in its original context, contemporary application,
implications for teaching and personal growth, and the
effective use of tools and other resources.
We are also partnering with Ledge
Leadership, a prominent student
development organization in
Ontario, who will deliver our personal
development focus and retreats
to Echo interns. Some of their
development focus includes:
•
•

“This program has given
me a new outlook on how I
can use what God has made
me passionate about, and
encouraged me to continue
using these gifts throughout my
adult life for His glory.”
“I’m participating in Echo to
enhance and strengthen my
relationship with not just God
and others, but to understand
myself better. This experience is
helping me clarify what I want
to do with the rest of my life.”
JOSH
“Echo is an amazing way to
spend a year growing closer
to Christ. You have complete
creative freedom in the
area you choose to serve
in. Emmanuel Bible College
classes make it easy to work
and study at the same time.”
JOSH
PAT
“Sign up! It’s a great experience
to undertake and you won’t
regret it. It has helped me grow
as a person and in my walk with
God.”
“What I like about the Echo program is its flexibility for a
person like myself who wants to be part of something really
exciting, but can’t put their work on pause and go away for
6-8 months of the year. I enjoy that I’m able to build into
my own church, develop the friendships I’ve made in Echo
and see the fruition of both for years to come.”

Withdrawal From the Program
Every effort will be made to work with interns to ensure it’s a
positive experience for all involved and that they are being
successful in all aspects of the program. Because tuition is tied to
specific activities, in the event of withdrawal from the program,
the intern would be required to only pay for the specific activities
they participated in up until the point of their withdrawal. If an
intern withdraws after airline tickets have been purchased, money
will only be returned to them in the event that the airline is able to
refund the price of the ticket.
