December 2013 SM RTbrief Immediate Health Care plans to open a second location on the east side at 5838 E. Central. The 6,728 SF former Blockbuster space is located in Carriage Parkway. The clinic's original location is at 4722 W. Kellogg. Grant Glasgow, Nathan Farha and Troy Farha of NAI Martens handled the deal. Shelton Collision is moving from south Derby (122 N. Georgie) to north Derby (325 W. Patriot), near K-15 and across from Kohl's. Shelton's new 9,500 SF building is the former Purple Wave Auction warehouse. The auto body shop also added an additional 2,000 SF to make the total space 11,500 SF. AutoMotion will have a January opening in 6,000 SF in the former Shelton Collision Building. Grant Glasgow from NAI Martens handled the deal. CommerCenter, located at 9229 E 37th St North near Jabara Airport, is available for sale or lease. Cycle Gear is coming to Wichita. The motorcycle retail store is taking 3,100 SF at 3236 N. Rock Road, in the same center as Buffalo Wild Wings. Nathan Farha of NAI Martens represented the landlord. Applebee's is moving from Rock Road to the Plazzio development at 13th & Greenwich in the Spring of 2014. The new location, which will feature an outdoor patio, will be located between Sumo and Jose Pepper's at the entrance of the development. Vanderbilts, a western and work wear store, is moving into the 5,000 SF, former Hollywood Video space in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center (Harry & Rock Rd) to make way for the expansion of Kellogg. There are eight Vanderbilt stores in Kansas. The production kitchen of Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates, located at 3540 N Comotara, is doubling its 2,500 SF size by taking over the space next door. Construction on the first of multiple buildings will start on the southeast corner of campus where the Wheatshocker Apartments stand now. He expects the 140,000 SF building to open in the fall of 2016 with focus on innovation and job creation, with a business incubator and an experimental engineering center. Hog Wild Pit BBQ is opening in the former Taco Tico space at 1530 W. Central in El Dorado. Hog Wild plans to open before Christmas. In addition to the newest restaurant, the BBQ chain has five Wichita locations, one in Hutchinson and one in Salina. Troy Farha of NAI Martens handled the transaction. The Wesley Medical Center pharmacy will be available to Larksfield's 90 health care center residents and 48 assisted living residents. The service will expand in December to include Larksfield's 32-bed memory unit. This is a pilot project for Wesley to ramp up its pharmacy services. Botanica's Chinese Garden of Friendship will be built adjacent to the events center that is under construction to the north of Botanica's main building. The $1.3 million building will begin after the event center is nearly complete. Around $175,000 worth of audio-video equipment and furnishings will be installed after construction is complete. Overall, Manufacturers in the Midwest are seeing a high volume of new orders and are expecting business improvements and growth in employment, according to a survey by the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. According to the survey, production fell slightly at the durable goods plants, but grew at places that produce non-durable goods, especially chemicals and plastics. Loft, a women's fashion retailer formerly known as Ann Talyor Loft, opened in Bradley Fair on November 21 in time for holiday shopping. Steve’s record of exceptional generosity, civic responsibility and the impact he’s made on his community through financial support were noted when the award was presented at a luncheon November 12. Steve is involved with: United Way of the Plains, serving as a campaign chair and later as a board chair; board member and past chair of the Kansas Cosmosphere & Space Center; Exploration Place; Wichita/Sedgwick County Task Force to End Chronic Homelessness, the founding chair of the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition; University of Kansas 4-Wichita Advancement Board and United Methodist Open Door. Wichita will be focusing on its Global Trade Network and its ability to export goods and services with the assistance of a national think tank. Wichita is one of eight cities in the Exchange, a program created by the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase. The program will help local institutions and companies focus more intensely on global trade and economic competitiveness. After the country fell into recession, Brookings studied how U.S. cities could recover in a slow-growing economy. One path is to increase exports and focus on fastergrowing parts of the globe. Smoothie King plans to open three more locations in Wichita. One of those locations is the former Rock Island Depot on the Union Station campus. This will be a total of six Smoothie King locations in Wichita. High Touch Technologies is buying the building that houses its headquarters at 110 S. Main. The Wichita company has been leasing four floors of the 10-story building since 2007 and plans to purchase to control the rundown building. High Touch has already invested $1.8 million into upgrading its space. Cow and Sow Deli opened below the Renfro Apartments on Douglas between the railroad tracks and St. Francis Street. The 600 SF eatery features a salad bar with organic and natural options. City Arts has revamped its CityArts Boutique to appeal to more shoppers at more price points. City Arts is located at 334 N. Mead in Old Town Square.
