If you must pay this final bill by credit card, please contact our office. A 3% credit card processing fee will be added to each transaction for balance payment made by credit card. Changes to your Registration Changes to your registration should be made by your Final Payment Date. • Go online to www.passportcamps.org/registration. • Click on "Login & Modify An Existing Registration" at the bottom of the page. • Enter the username and password used for your original registration. • You can: o Modify your registrant numbers; o Update any group or individual information; o Inform us of Special Needs that require advance preparation (e.g., dietary restrictions, mobility limitations, language needs); o o o Request 3X or 4X T-shirts (must be requested by April 1); Pre-order optional items such as worship packets as available; View an updated account statement. Groups are allowed three drops from the registered total prior to the final payment due date. The deposits for these drops will not be immediately refunded but will apply to the final balance. All drops in excess of the three allowed prior to the final payment due date result in the forfeiture of those deposits. All drops after the final payment date will result in forfeiture of those deposits and incur an additional $100 late drop charge for each drop. Passport's preparation for camp begins well in advance of the date final payment is due as we hire summer teams, purchase supplies, and contract with host campuses. Forfeited deposits and late fees help us share the financial burden of last minute cancellations. All registration policies are available at www.passportcamps.org. Please call the Passport national office to check for available space if you wish to add a camper after the Final Payment Date. Questions? Once the camp office opens, the staff will be your best source of information regarding campus and facility questions. For changes to your registration after final payment is made, please contact the Passport national office, Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 Central. 3 Camp Check-In Check-In Location Look for the PASSPORT flags to guide you to the Check-In area indicated on the Campus Map (see addenda). PASSPORTmissions staff will be there to greet you. Check-In Time (2:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern) Staff will be available to assist you beginning at 2:00 p.m. Eastern. While you and one of your adult chaperones check in, PASSPORTmissions staff will hang out with your campers near your vehicles. Please schedule your travel so that you can arrive between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Late Arrival Late groups will be asked to wait until the end of Opening Celebration to check in. If travel circumstances mean you will be late, please call the Camp Office before 5:00 p.m. Eastern to tell us: • Your ETA – when you will get to camp! • Your total number of Males and Females, campers and adults and t-shirt sizes Bring the following to Camp Check-In: 1. Camp Check-In Form (see Addenda) – Please record At Camp Totals and Shirt Size Totals as well as camper and chaperone information before you arrive. Note that we can only supply 3X and 4X shirts that are specially ordered by April 1. 2. Medical Release Forms (see Addenda) – PASSPORTmissions requires that a Medical Release Form for each camper and chaperone be submitted to us at Check-In. Campers without a Medical Release Form will not be permitted to participate in certain camp activities until the form is received. See Emergency Care for more details. 3. Chaperone Screening Certificate (see Addenda) – signed by a church ministerial staff member, to certify that your group has conducted a statewide criminal background check for all adults staying with your group at camp. 4. Special Needs Information Form (see Addenda) – for each camper or adult who may require special attention (e.g., Asthma; Seizures; Hearing, Sight, or Mobility Differences; Learning or Behavioral Differences; Dietary Restrictions; English as a second language). If a camper requires individual adult supervision at school, please assign one of your chaperones to accompany the camper at all times and include the chaperone’s name on this form. Please think ahead about which campers you want to room together and which campers should be placed in Bible Study Groups together (or apart) for any reason. Please give us this information when you receive your passports. Although you will have already paid your balance in full, payment for any outstanding balance (e.g., for late additions) is due within 7 days of invoice receipt. Payment must be sent to the Passport national office and will not be accepted at camp. Checks should be made out to Passport, Inc. You will receive at Camp Check-In: 1. Keys to your rooms. Be aware that all host facilities charge a lost key fee. 2. T-shirts for you and your campers (included in your camp fee). 3. Printed instructions to help you get started. 4. Your passports (each camper’s guidebook, also used as a meal ticket and campus ID). 5. New this year! Each participant receives a PASSPORT Lanyard to hold your passports. There is no need to pre-order and purchase these. 4 Registration Refund Options If you have paid your balance in full and arrive at camp with fewer campers than you have registered, Passport will refund the difference between the camp cost and the deposit paid, minus a $100 late drop fee, for each camper not in attendance. Should you have a credit after settling your account balance, you may: 1. Donate your refund to the Passport Camp Scholarship Fund. 2. Request a refund check. The national office will issue that check within 3 weeks following your camp session. 3. Apply your refund to next year’s balance. Once you register for a 2017 program, your balance will be credited with the refund from this year. This option will allow you to reduce your 2017 balance by the amount of your refund due. You will not be guaranteed a certain week or location of camp. This amount will remain fully refundable until January 1, 2017, or until your group registers, whichever happens first. Registration for 2017 opens November 1, 2016. Campus Information Camper Mail Mail to campers is distributed daily through the group leader. Parents and friends may write your campers at the address on the Camp Essentials page. Be sure to give parents the address prior to camp. Please tell your campers’ parents that it will be best to mail letters early to ensure that they arrive during camp. Any mail that comes after a group has left camp is marked “return to sender” if there is a return address included. This is also the PASSPORTmissions summer staff address for correspondence. Housing We will make an initial housing assignment before you arrive at camp, but adjustments must sometimes be made. Please be flexible! Campus personnel will inspect each room for damage on the final day of camp. In most cases, host site personnel will collect payments for lost keys or damages on site before your group departs. We recommend that you do a quick search of all your assigned rooms before you move into them. Please report any problems to our Assistant Director. For more information about our housing policy, please see Adult/Minor Rooming Requirements in the Preparing for Camp section of this packet. Meals All meals from supper on Opening Day through Closing Day breakfast are included in the program fee, with the exception of dinner on Night 4 (Church Group Free Time). Breakfast and supper are prepared by the campus food service and served in campus dining facilities. Each day’s lunch will be on the mission site or on campus before departing for the mission site. If you have a camper with special dietary needs, please note this in the Special Needs box on our registration website by May 1 or contact us at our national office at least 2 weeks prior to your camp session. Phone & Internet Connectivity We understand that we live in a digital age; however, campers are not permitted to have cell phones at Passport. We are asking that you help your students disconnect from the distractions and connect with each other and God. We will be asking students to join us for a Digital Sabbath – they will be asked to turn their cell phones/iPads/tablets over to their group leaders during opening night of camp. These items may be returned Friday morning. If staffers see a student with any of these devices during the week, they will be collected and given to the group leader. Please help us in enforcing this rule, as it will enrich the camp experience. For more information, please see Digital Sabbath in the Preparing for Camp section on page 10. 5 Limited wireless Internet is available on campus. Adults are permitted to have cell phones and other electronic devices; however, we would ask that you use them with discretion. Celebrations and Worship services may not be recorded. Emergency Care Medical Release Forms In order to provide the best and quickest care for your campers, we require two Medical Release Forms for every camper and adult (one copy for Passport and one copy for the Group Leader). These forms are included in the Addenda at the end of this packet and on the Group Leader page of our website. If your church has a separate medical form, then a second copy of Passport’s form is not required. In any case, group leaders must bring two Medical Release Forms to Check-In: two copies of Passport’s form OR Passport’s form and your own form. First Aid We will have very general first-aid supplies (such as band-aids, cold packs, etc.) in the camp office and at mission sites. You or a designated adult chaperone from your group must keep and administer any and all medicines. Neither PASSPORT nor the campus provides a nurse for camp use, and our staff is not permitted to administer medication to campers. We strongly encourage you to bring first aid supplies of your own, including pain relief and itch relief medicines. Transportation to Medical Facility PASSPORT will help you locate medical facilities by providing maps, which will be available in the camp office. The Day 4 Party is Free Time with your Church from 2:30-9:00 p.m. You are encouraged to do something fun together, with dinner on your own. Worship will begin at 9:00 p.m. Camp Theme: This Wild Life God created us to live full and beautiful lives! We are made to live free like a fish swimming in the ocean or a bird flying in the sky! Choosing to follow Jesus helps us find freedom in the midst of deep struggles and offer grace where community is lacking. Trusting Jesus can help to turn living day after ordinary day into a wild and precious life. Our theme verse for 2016 is: “…I came so that everyone would have life and have it in its fullest.” John 10:10b (CEV) Bible Study The 4 main daily themes of the Bible studies are as follows: • (Day 2): Wild & Precious – “Look at the birds in the sky. They don’t sow seed or harvest grain crops into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth much more than they are?” Matthew 6:26 (CEB) • (Day 3): Wild & Wonderful – “…Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.” Matthew 28:20b (CEB) • (Day 4): Wild & Free – “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (CEB) • (Day 5): Wild at Heart – “I give you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, so you must also love each other.” John 13:34 (CEB) This summer’s Bible Study was written by Brian Foreman. Brian is writer and speaker from Raleigh, NC. He has been working with students for over 20 years, and continues that ministry through work as an adjunct professor at the Campbell University Divinity School where he specializes in Christian Education and Leadership courses. Brian has also published two books designed to help teens, 7 parents and youth ministries have good conversations around social media. You can read more of his ramblings at www.brianforemanonline.com Mission Projects Each Bible Study Group will be assigned to mission projects each day. Mission Projects vary by location and week and may include painting, scraping, cleaning the homes and yards of senior citizens; projects with local service agencies like community food banks or Habitat for Humanity; or providing educational and recreational programs to disadvantaged children. The Bible Study Leader will oversee and direct each mission project. Group Leaders and chaperones will be assigned to a Bible Study Group for missions time and will provide oversight, discipline, and monitor safety in coordination with the Bible Study Leader. Closed-toe shoes and shirts with sleeves (no tank tops) are required for Mission Sites. Be sure that students bring clothes and shoes that can get dirty on site. Many sites call for paint and cleaning materials that could soil or damage clothing and shoes. Mission Project Transportation: Please be aware that we will need your buses and vans for transporting the youth from campus to their projects. If you are flying, taking the train, or chartering a bus, please make arrangements for your transportation while you are at camp. For those of you chartering a bus, we will need to use those buses to take a group to a mission project. Be sure to set up those times with your charter service. In addition to transporting youth, you will be carrying supplies in your vehicles, possibly including ladders. You may wish to bring supplies to protect your seats in the case of students getting dirty on mission sites. Mission Offering This summer students will learn about the Island of Bali and an arts community called Narwastu. They will hear about the work of Jonathan and Tina Bailey, who have served in Bali for twenty years working to create meaningful community through the arts. Their work extends the love of God to an international community, to children at risk living on the streets, and to people within the prison system. Campers will be invited to share an offering that will help the Baileys love this wild and wonderful part of the world. Please make your youth aware of this time of offering during Worship on the last night of camp, and join us in praying for this opportunity to give. Parties Each evening, PASSPORTmissions will have a party with one goal: FUN. Encourage your campers to come up with an act for the Variety Show, a costume for the Dance, and old clothes for the Rec Party! Night 2: World Wild Games Rec Party Just in time for the 2016 Summer Olympics, Passport is hosting the World Wild Games. Not your ordinary Olympic events, these games will challenge you to use your strength, mind, and team spirit. Be prepared to get wet from head to toe! The Rec Party is held outdoors (weather permitting), and campers may want to bring an extra swimsuit, comfortable shorts, and T-shirts that can match the color of their Bible Study Group—red, black, or blue. All campers must wear closed-toe shoes. They will be allowed to remove shoes for some of the games, but we still recommend extra shoes that can get wet and dirty. PASSPORT tends to follow a four-year cycle for our Rec Parties—every second year incudes wet games, and every fourth year includes sloppy games. We may, however, vary from this schedule if a particular theme invites messiness. Every summer, we hope you will enjoy the fun of creative new games. 8 Night 3: Wild, Wild West Dance Grab your hat and your boots and let’s do some line dancing together! Games, dancing, and a photo booth will complete this outdoor dance under the lights. Groups should come dressed in their favorite plaid, hats, boots, and overalls. Youth groups are strongly encouraged to plan their costumes prior to camp. A group trip to the local thrift store would be a fun way for your youth to prepare for the dance. Creative costumes make for a successful dance! Staff judges will present a prize to the most creative group and best costume. So grab your boots, hat, and get excited for the Wild, Wild West Dance. See the Dress Guidelines on the Parent & Chaperone Essentials Page as the Dress Code is still in effect. No Weapons (fake or real) are allowed at camp. Night 4: Church Group Free Time Throughout much of the week, your campers are divided into different groups for Bible Study and Mission Projects, and while this is done with intentionality to build a broader community, it is also important for your group to build community internally as well. On the third full day of camp, groups will be given time off from 2:30 to 9:00 p.m. to participate in an activity of their choosing. Dinner will be on your own and we ask that you are back on campus ready to worship at 9:00 p.m. Suggestions for activities can be found in the Location Guide in the addenda. Night 5: PASSPORT Choice Awards This year we will honor the biggest names in music, movies, sports, and more. Come ready for a night filled with awards, talent, and fun. Bring your skits, songs, and any other act to the Passport Choice Awards Show. Please note that not every act can be included in the Variety Show. Please prepare your campers for the possibility that their act may not be chosen due to time constraints. Space for the Variety Show can vary from week to week. Encourage your group to do group acts so that more are included. Should there be too many acts for our allotted time, acts will be cut. Help your campers learn the importance of discretion by knowing in advance what acts your campers plan to present. Songs with suggestive lyrics will be cut, as will any act deemed inappropriate by the PASSPORT staff. Variety Show acts must follow the PASSPORT Dress Guidelines. For more details and Variety Show Screening information, please see the Camp Basics section of this packet. 9 PREPARING FOR CAMP In the Addenda, we have provided several items to help you prepare for camp. Here are a few key things to remember as you plan: Prior to Camp Digital Sabbath We live in the connected age where our friends and family are just a text or Snapchat away. There is growing research that there are some negative effects to this constant connectedness. Taking up the Biblical idea of a rest from work as an important part of life’s cycle, we are going to invite our campers to join us for a week of Digital Sabbath. This means we will not permit our campers to have cell phones during Passport, and we strongly suggest that our group leaders and chaperones also significantly limit their natural reach to their phones during camp. If Passport staffers see a student with any of these devices during the week, they will be collected and given to the group leader. Students will be asked to turn their cell phones/iPads/tablets over to their group leaders during opening night of camp, after having a few minutes to snap selfies and send messages to family that all is well. We are also going to request that these devices be returned to the campers on Friday morning. This will allow them time to make digital connections with their new friends from the week. Please help us in enforcing this rule, as it will enrich the camp experience. Also, please talk openly about this Digital Sabbath with your parents, as sometimes the parents want that daily connectedness to their students. Let them know that you will be posting photos, and that if there is any emergency, the parents will be quickly notified and able to speak to their students. But ask them to join the Digital Sabbath – praying for their student, every time they think to text or call them during the week. Preparation Camp can be an incredible bonding experience for your youth group, but also a milestone in a student’s walk with Christ. The Holy Spirit can touch and transform every student that comes to camp, which is why we encourage you to bring as many of your students as possible. We hope you will use the following ideas to build excitement with your students and ensure no child feels left out. We’ll also be emailing you from now until camp with additional resources. Videos: Students love finding out each year’s theme! Share the theme video during Sunday school or your weekly youth gathering – it’s guaranteed to pump up your students. Stay tuned for fun new videos in the coming weeks. Parent Preparation: Included in this GLP is a Parent & Chaperone Essentials Page which we encourage you to dispense. For parents that are unfamiliar with Passport, the complete Parent Guide is included in the Addenda of this packet. Scholarships We don’t want money to stand in between any student and camp. The Passport Camp Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance for youth and children who could not otherwise participate in our camps. To apply for a camp scholarship, email [email protected] Fundraising Many of our churches hold fundraisers to cover the cost of camps. Below are some ideas for those new to fundraising. 10 • • • Support letters: Support letters allow friends, family, and church members to invest in a student’s spiritual life. A good support letter answers the five most important questions (who, what, when, where, and why) and gives clear instructions as to whom to make the donations out to and where to send it. Writing support letters can be a great lesson in humility and teach gratefulness. Sales: Sell doughnuts before Sunday services to your hungry congregation or ask church members to donate gently used or new items for a church garage sale. Events: Fundraising events don’t have to be complicated. When kept simple, an event can be a fun fellowship experience for the entire church. Some ideas include: Chili Cook-off, Dodgeball Tournament, Benefit Performances, Church Telethon, Softball Tournament, Talent Show, and Movie Night. Items for the Group Leader to Bring In addition to your personal items, we recommend that the Group Leader bring a few things that will make your life (and your group’s experience) easier. • Portable First Aid kit (including pain relief and itch relief medicines) • Extra insect repellant and sunscreen • Work gloves • Laundry detergent and quarters for coin-operated laundry machines • Extra pens and pencils for your group • A pack of notecards to use for Church Group Devotions, notes in worship, etc. • Some snacks and bottled water to “tide youth over” between meals • A backpack or duffel bag • Fans. The rooms are air conditioned, but it can be stuffy in the dorms. • Cooler(s). Not all rooms will have refrigerators. • Trash bags. There are central places to dispose of trash, but not in individual rooms. • Paper towels, tissues, and Lysol • A container to store collected cell phones and other electronic devices Dress Guidelines We have provided packing lists as well as our Dress Guidelines on the Parent & Chaperone Essentials Page. Campers and adults should dress modestly and appropriately, according to their size and developmental stage, the entire week of camp. While at camp, please take into consideration the following guidelines: • • • • • • Modest shorts, shirts, & swimsuits Properly fitting clothes Please avoid low-riding, short and/or revealing clothes. No clothing with inappropriate language/advertising. Shirts with sleeves & closed-toe tennis shoes required for mission projects. Note: Be sure that students bring clothes and shoes that can get dirty on site. Many sites call for paint and cleaning materials that could soil or damage clothing and shoes. Clothing should not make fun of another person or culture. 11 PASSPORT requests that all leaders monitor their group's clothing. Adults and campers are asked to dress for the culture of camp. Everyone should wear clothing that is modest and respectful to the agencies and individuals we are serving as well as to the overall camp environment. PASSPORT staffers will not be monitoring clothing choices. Camper & Chaperone Requirements • Youth eligible for PASSPORTmissions must have completed grades 6 through 12 at the time of camp. • Chaperones must be at least 20 years old at camp and have been out of high school for at least one year. All Chaperones driving vehicles at camp must be at least 21 years old. • The Group Leader is the lead Chaperone, and will be responsible for the camp registration and participants. Group Leaders must be at least 21 years old at camp. • The Chaperone to Camper ratio in each group must be at least 1 Chaperone per 6 Campers of the same gender. For example, if you bring 8 female and 3 male Campers, you must bring 2 female Chaperones and 1 male Chaperone. • On occasion groups may need to have special non-participating guests attend camp with them. Although participants should always be registered with the group, you can request for others to join you at camp even if they are not participating. These requests must be made by email to [email protected] or calling 800-769-0210 by April 1. A camp coordinator will discuss the expectations and accommodations with the Group Leader in addition to any fees that may be added. Some of these situations may include: o Babies and young children: For chaperones who need to bring babies or young children under camper age to camp, please contact [email protected] so a camp coordinator can let you know of the specific guidelines, expectations, and any additional fees. o Pastors and other non-participating adults: For pastors or other adults who wish to visit camp or a portion of a camp session, please contact Passport so that we can discuss options with you. Safe Harbor Policies Passport requires that every adult attending camp with your group have a background check completed through the church’s normal screening process. If your church does not currently require background checks on all adults who work and volunteer with minors, we suggest you contact to your denominational office to get help and resources to begin this important ministry of care and to meet the requirement to attend a Passport program. On the Chaperone Screening Certificate (in the Addenda), you are asked to list the full name of every adult accompanying your group and check a box indicating that you have conducted a criminal background check for each person listed. Any official statewide background check that you have conducted within the past three years is acceptable. A ministerial staff member of your church must sign the certificate to be presented when your group arrives at camp for Check-In. Adult/Minor Rooming Requirements As you plan rooming assignments for your group, please keep several things in mind: • Housing Reminders on the Camp Essentials page. • Placing adult chaperones strategically to monitor campers. • Flexibility—campus arrangements sometimes change. • Our camp teams make housing assignments 5 days prior to your arrival. 12 Passport, Inc.’s policy regarding Adult/Minor Rooming requires that an adult cannot sleep in the same room alone with a minor unless that adult is the parent or legal guardian of the minor. In lodging where there are multiple beds, we will arrange for at least two adults who are not married or related to stay with multiple minors. This may occasionally necessitate placing more than one group in an apartment or dorm suite. If there are separate bedrooms, an adult will be given their own room or may share with another adult. In the event that your group’s policy is stricter than this, Passport, Inc. will follow your policy to the best of our ability; however, it is the group leader’s responsibility to make specific rooming issues known to Passport in writing prior to the date final payment is due so that we can adequately plan. This may be done through the Special Needs section when you modify your registration online. You may also email your request to us at [email protected]. Special rooming issues can usually be accommodated, although in some instances, this may require additional payment based on single room costs from our host facilities. 13 CAMP BASICS This section of the packet is designed to offer a more detailed glimpse of camp and to offer triedand-true tips that will help you better prepare yourself and your youth for camp. Please read thoroughly to be prepared. Camp Schedule Details Bible Study Campers are mixed together randomly in Bible Study groups. This is done intentionally for two reasons. First, as a practical matter, senior high students help provide maturity and leadership for all mission projects. Second, as an educational matter, we like to encourage the interaction of older and younger youth during camp. What might be given up in specifically accommodating developmental differences is more than gained back in interaction, in role modeling, and in peer leadership. We believe that all youth, no matter the age have something to offer. Each youth comes to camp with different life experiences, circumstances and maturity levels. It is our belief that we can all learn something from these experiences. By having a shared experience it is our hope that we are helping to bridge the gap of hierarchy that so often exists within youth groups. In doing so, we believe students can gain important leadership skills and be challenged to interact meaningfully with youth and adults from other regions, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds. Our studies are written thoughtfully to engage minds on all levels: visually, verbally, kinesthetically, socially, and solitary in the hopes that we encourage students to dig deeper into a biblical text. Campers are asked to bring a Bible to camp (any translation is fine). Adult Bible Study & The Daily Grind After the campers leave at the end of each day’s Morning Celebration, we invite all the adult chaperones to a time of brief announcements, a break to check in back home, and then a focused time of Adult Bible Study. We ask that you encourage all of your chaperones to attend this time each day so that they can be more connected to the camp experience as this Bible study is based on the camper’s Bible Study. The adult time will start with a couple of important announcements followed by a short reflection activity and then a coffee break that we call the Daily Grind. During this time, you will have a chance to interact with the Program Staff who will all be gathered to meet you and answer your questions and address your concerns. After this break, the Camp Director will lead a straightforward Bible Study with lots of room for discussion and prayer. Camp is designed for the youth, but this is one way we honor your chaperones, by providing a chance for personal spiritual reflection that can have profound energizing results for your adults. Mission Projects Youth come to camp for many reasons, but what many miss the most when camp is over is their time meeting new friends and working together at the mission project sites. Each morning following Bible Study, each Bible Study group will go to a different mission project site. This means your church group will experience multiple mission projects in one week! All adults will sign up for a project and be expected to help supervise at their mission site. This is crucial because of our insurance demands. Adults will go to the same site with a Bible Study group each day so that relationships can be formed. This supervision may be as simple as helping pass out water to children or as careful as making sure the campers are being safe with the paint, tools, ladders, etc. There will always be a PASSPORTmissions staffer directing the project, but she or he will be counting on the adults to be extra eyes, ears, and examples. PASSPORT’s trained, hired staffers are in charge at the site and know the overall plan. They cannot, however, watch every camper for safety and supervise without the help of your adults. Please help 14 your adults know their role before camp. The focus for chaperones will always be maintaining safety and helping the Bible Study Leader manage the site, not on completing hands-on mission work. If an emergency arises so that one adult will miss a day at their site (i.e. a camper gets sick), the adult must get word to the Mission Project Coordinator at camp before the group leaves the campus. Mission Project Transportation: Please be aware that we will need your buses and vans for transporting the youth from campus to their projects. If you are flying, taking the train, or chartering a bus, please make arrangements for your transportation while you are at camp. For those of you chartering a bus, we will need to use those buses to take a group to a mission project. Be sure to set up those times with your charter service. In addition to transporting youth, you will be carrying supplies in your vehicles, possibly including ladders. You may wish to bring supplies to protect your seats in the case of students getting dirty on mission sites. Tip: See the packing checklist on the Camper/Parent Info Page (in the Addenda) for a list of items campers will need for Mission Projects. Adults can also bring: insect repellant, extra sunscreen, a water bottle and work gloves for yourself, and a small first-aid kit for minor scrapes or bug bites. Free Time Activities On days two and three of camp, the staff will offer several afternoon Free Time Activities such as Flag Football, Basketball, Coloring, and Soccer as well as discussion and other activities. In addition, the Camp Store will be open. There will be a volleyball tournament on the last full day of camp (Day 5) in which your campers can compete against campers from other churches to become the PASSPORTmissions Volleyball Champions. The final round will pit the winning church team against the PASSPORTmissions Staff. Worship PASSPORTmissions has a strong tradition of worship with creativity, plenty of camper involvement, and fresh perspective. Your students will be invited to participate in worship in several ways including prayers, scripture reading, testimony, video question of the day, and other kinds of onstage leadership. Worship will be held in a comfortable theater setting. After mission projects and an afternoon of fun, we want campers to be comfortable—and clean! Campers who are leading in worship (reading scripture, singing, praying, etc.) should wear jeans, slacks, long dresses, long shorts or skirts to worship. Please monitor your youth’s attire before they walk all the way to worship each night. We ask that you and your students refrain from taking photos or videos during worship. Every year, we publish a Worship Packet, a resource available for you to preorder at registration or purchase from the Passport online store. The packet includes materials that you are welcome to use at your church after camp, for your camp report, or at any time. This year, we will make the worship song list from the packet available free of charge prior to camp for those who want to help your campers start making “a joyful noise” in advance. Keep an eye out for future announcements about the song list. Variety Show Screening The Variety Show allows campers an avenue of self-expression with an audience of their peers. Campers will be screened for participation in the Variety Show on Day 3 of camp from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in the theater. Acts will be chosen based on variety, appropriateness, creativity, church group representation, quality, and time constraints. Youth must try out in the clothes they plan to wear on stage. Youth will not be allowed to sing over a vocal audio track or to go “off script.” The act they present in the Variety Show must be the same as the act they screened. Unrehearsed acts and inappropriate costumes will not be permitted. Begin encouraging your youth to get together and come up with unique acts that will display the variety of characteristics present within your group. 15 Church Group Devotions At the end of each night of camp, we have set aside at least one hour for your group to gather and debrief the day, have a devotion, pray and sing together. The Church Group Devotions handout provides a guide for you to follow – with theme verses and suggestions for discussion and activities – however, this time is yours as the group leader to plan, organize and direct. You will be assigned a church group devotion location at Camp Check-In, and that will be your space all week. You may provide snacks, bring a guitar to sing, etc. You have free rein to bring your group’s traditions and flavor to camp. These rooms will also be used for the morning Bible Study groups, so feel free to rearrange the room, but please put it back to the way you found it before you leave each evening. In order to focus on the week-by-week ministry to our campers, Passport’s staff is not permitted to connect with campers via social media. After each session of camp, a link to the Closing Slideshow will be emailed directly to you. Photos from that slideshow as well as others from the week will be posted to passportcamps.org/photos. Online Daily Devotions: d365.org d365.org is a free daily online devotional series which gives students a chance to see and experience their world in new ways. Interactive and accessible every day, the site boasts nearly two million visitors annually. The site becomes a Lenten guide in the spring and an Advent guide in December. At the end of the summer, d365 hosts a special series called “Back2School” which offers devotions specific to the beginning of a new school year with an accompanying Bible study curriculum from Passport Media. Download the free app for iPhone and iPad. 16 Camp Follow-Up We want your session of camp to be a fantastic experience for you and your campers. We also want your camper parents to rest at ease while you are away. In addition to providing online camp photos, we will email your parents during camp to thank them and offer a glimpse into what their students are learning and doing. The email will include suggested questions parents can ask their campers upon their return to debrief the experience and help them continue their spiritual growth. PASSPORTmissions is designed to help you discern the talents, passions, and avenues of service God is calling you to exercise. Here is some information to help you make the most of your time at PASSPORTmissions. What NOT to Bring: Checklist ❏ Medical Release Form 2copiesofPassport’sformOR Passport’sformandyourchurch’s form ❏ Clothes Plenty of T-shirts and shorts, some nicer clothes for worship (including a pair of pants, skirt or dress), costume for the dance ❏ Shoes At least one closed-toe pair for RecPartyandMissionProjects, a pair for other activities ❏ Towels and Linens Because bed sizes vary, we recommend sleeping bags; males usually need twin sheets, and females usually need full or double sheets. Towels (hand and bath), washcloth(s), pillow ❏ Toiletries Soap (for the sink and shower), shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, other personal hygiene items ❏ Bible and pen/pencil ❏ Alarm clock or watch (Phones will be taken up by Group Leader as part of Digital Sabbath.) ❏ Mission Project Items T-shirts with sleeves (required), work gloves, bug repellant, water bottle, sunscreen, hat, and appropriate closed-toe shoes ❏ Some money for the mission offering and camp store • Firecrackers, bad attitudes, shaving cream for a purpose other than its intended use,balloonsthatcanbefilledwithwater,tobaccoproducts,illegaldrugs, firearms,alcohol...alltheusualno-no’s.Camperswillbeheldresponsiblefor property damage and/or clean-up costs incurred. • We ask that all electronics be switched off and put away while at camp. This is a rule designed to allow youth to focus on God, camp, relationships and themselves - not games or music. • TakinguptheBiblicalideaofrestfromworkasanimportantpartoflife’scycle, we are inviting our campers to join us for a week of Digital Sabbath. This means we will not permit our campers to have cell phones/electronic devices during camp. Our staff will ask to monitor this during the week. If they see a camper with a cell phone/electronic device they will collect it and given to the group leader. Students will hand over these devices on opening night of camp, and they will be returned on Friday morning. Please help us in enforcing this rule, as it will enrich the camp experience. Mission Projects Projects vary by location but may include: • Painting, scraping, and cleaning the homes and yards of senior citizens • Projects with local service agencies like community food banks and Habitat for Humanity • Providing educational and recreational programs to disadvantaged children • Note: Closed-toe shoes and shirts with sleeves (no tank tops) are required for Mission Sites. Be sure that students bring clothes and shoes that can get dirty on site. Many sites call for paint and cleaning materials that could soil or damage clothing and shoes. Their work extends the love of God to an international community, to children at risk living on the streets,andtopeoplewithintheprisonsystem.Camperswillbeinvitedtoshareanoffering that will help the Baileys love this wild and wonderful part of the world.
