London Fields Post Issue 34 Term 3 13.06. 2014 FAMOUS ATHLETE VISITS LONDON FIELDS SCHOOL! Last Friday KS2 had a special visitor. Abigail Irozuru, who is ranked the 3rd best British female long jumper and 9th in the world, came to our school! We took part in a active and stamina building workshop and then Abigail gave us an inspirational assembly and demonstrated some of her skills. We all enjoyed it incredibly and I think we definitely have some future gold medallists in our school. Watch this space to find out how much money we raised in total. Bring me the correct answer to the prize question on a piece of paper (you can find me in Rimu class) and you could be picked at random to receive a special Geography prize! Yes, this is Miss Goddard in her jungle gear! Let’s take a closer look at… Did you know… 1. Argentina is one of the most diverse countries in the world in terms of its climate and geography. Argentina has desert towards the North of the country and glaciers in the very South. 2. The official language of Argentina is Spanish, although they speak with a slightly different accent compared to Spanish spoken in Spain. It is a little bit like the American accent compared to a London accent! 3. The Iguazú Falls are one of the world’s most fascinating waterfalls, and can be found on the border between Argentina and Brazil. Prize Question: What is the national dance of Argentina? FAMOUS ATHLETE VISITS LONDON FIELDS SCHOOL! YEAR 6 GIVE US ALL THE INFO ON ABGAIL IROZURU! Sophia David Hafizah Nu bila h is L ou An amazing portrait Landmarks Tour Designed by Joshua and Eser Written by members Palm Class On the tour around London it was raining but we still had an amazing time. We went to Buckingham Palace! When we arrived we saw the guards marching, a few minutes later we saw royal guests being pulled in a gold carriage by a horse. We also saw Big Ben! Did you know the tower is called The Queens tower? Also we saw the Houses of Parliament and Admiralty Arch. When we were there we saw the solders marching. We also went to St. James park to have our lunch but sadly it was still pouring with rain! Then we were in luck! The sun came out. Then we went to 10 Downing Street and the police officers were guarding it so no one could break in. Then we went to Nelsons Column but we did not get to rub the nose on the wall because it was on the other side of the road. We had a fantastic time! Of Year 4! Portrait Gallery Last week we went on an amazing trip to the National Portrait Gallery. We saw impressive portraits of The Tudors and The Victorians. Whilst we were on the trip we had a fantastic workshop that taught us all about Mary Shelley, a famous writer. She wrote a book about Dr. Frankenstein - just a fact ,she read 100 Books a day! You wouldn’t believe how much she read and learnt. Her dad wrote many books and she read his books. Also another fact is Mary Shelley’s mum died four days after giving birth to Mary. Before the workshop we saw past Queens and Kings; including Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth I! We were all lucky because the weather was BOILING hot! Did you know that The National Portrait Gallery has over 2,000 Paintings. We saw brilliant busts of Kings and Queens. Busts are a form of statue that only shows their heads! We had a brilliant day!
