A MESSAGE FROM THE WTC PRESIDENT
It is an honor to assume the Presidency of the World Tennis Club and hopefully my
past and current experiences will help me meet the challenge. I have been a
teacher, principal, supervisor for the model school of the University of Pittsburgh,
a tenured professor and department chair at Saint Francis University, Director
Emeritus of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Chairman of the Cordelia
Mellon Scaife May Trust, the founding director of Lake Raystown Resort in Pennsylvania, a Councilman of the Borough of Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania and an interim director of the Blairmont Club (a private dinner club). I have also been involved in art administration at all levels of government. I have continuously maintained a career as a professional artist and gallery owner and a managing director
of the Colcom Foundation in Pittsburgh.
During my life, I have never applied for any position but have been asked to serve
in many different professional capacities. My experiences have taught me to
highly value the importance of committees, volunteers, direct communication,
governing transparency, consensus building, creative problem solving and balanced budgets.
Over the last five years, much has been accomplished during Gordon Nicholson’s
Presidency. Our budgets have been maintained with only modest increases in association dues. The overall landscape and ponds have been dramatically augmented. The foreclosure era is almost behind us. Capital improvements have
made WTC a better place to live. We have had an influx of new and exciting people move into WTC. Our tennis operations continue to improve and the Men’s
Senior USTA Tournament has been highly successful. All of our committees are
functioning well and our community volunteers have provided invaluable assistance. Moreover, our café operation has become the social gathering center of
WTC.
Finally, important standards have been set and our future challenges will be both to
maintain and set new standards of excellence. Our new board, officers, association
presidents, committee chairs, along with our fine staff and volunteers appreciate
your support, encouragement and vision as we strive to make WTC a model community in which to live, play, learn and celebrate life on a daily basis.

A letter to our Tennis Director Pavel Slozil
from Herb Sauer regarding the Wounded
Warriors Fundraiser...
Pavel;
Once again our sincere appreciation for your time, talent, and tremendous tennis
skills which you so generously lent to our Wounded Warriors of South Florida Tennis Fundraiser yesterday afternoon here at Forest Glen. Per your request, let me
share with you the following.
We met this morning to review our financial results, and I have great news to
share with you. We have not officially notified Wounded Warriors of South Florida yet of the results, but I can tell you that we raised and will be contributing directly to them $12,000 to further their efforts for our courageous men and women
who have sacrificed on our behalf. We exceeded our expectations significantly,
and it is all attributable to your kind generosity, and that of Emilio, JoAnne and
Samantha. Recall that with the program, all services are for wounded veterans
right here in our communities of South Florida. Our approximate attendance was
in excess of 190 (running out of fingers and toes to count ;-}.
Late today, we’ll be reviewing and arranging the event photos taken by our much
appreciated photographer and avid tennis player Donna McMurdo, and thanks to
her efforts, we’ll have plenty of material to post to the Facebook page for the event
(which I hope you can share with the World Tennis Club community so they can
appreciate what a wonderful and generous Captain they have in their midst ;-}
I know Rick Flach expressed to you the great appreciation we all have for your
talent and the friendship you so obviously share with Emilio, JoAnne and Samantha. What I would like to add is that our community here in Forest Glen have
taken each of you to heart, and hope that each of you understand that you are
now part of our extended family, and look forward to following your efforts here
in the community and wherever they take you in the future.
Please extend to the World Tennis Club community our appreciation as well for
their sharing you with all of us.

‘Hot Damn’
On Friday, Mar 21 2014 The popular musical group, "HOT DAMN", from Naples and across
the states was here performing for us for the second time. Last year's attendance was approx
100 and this year it was topped at approx 130. I guess this means we are booking them again
for next year. Yea!
This husband and wife team, Deb and Norm are very popular here in Naples and perform
across the states as well. They sing and play musical instruments with a wide variety of great
sounds for dancing the night away, which is what we all did for 2 and a half hours. So how
was everyone's tennis the next day????
The weather , the appetizers brought by everyone, the music and dancing, the warm camaraderie on the dance floor and the prizes all contributed to the fun of this evenin,. Of course none
of this was possible without our many enthusiastic volunteers who check in people, set up
the food table, took pictures and who carried and set up all the chairs and tables from the
multi purpose room and returned them at the end of the evening. What a job! I hope your arms
weren't as sore as mine......
Your feedback during and after this event is very much appreciated and helps us plan for next
year. Suggestions and help are always welcomed.

Book Club
Our March book club meeting when we discussed the book "Citizens of London...the Americans who stood with Britain in its darkest, finest hour" by Lynne Olson, published by Random
House. Beth Heberlein, Susan Kinney and Wendy Cohen led the discussion at the March meeting. All members seem to enjoy the book and were so inspired by it that they dressed in the
period as members of the Women's Volunteer Service of WWII Great Britain.
In the meantime, we sent Lynne Olson a copy of the photo of our group, together with some
details of our discussion. This was her response:
"What a fabulous photo! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it -- not to mention all the
wonderful things you did to make the discussion of "Citizens of London" such a special event.
You really seem to have brought the time and place alive. I only wish I could have been there
to see and hear everything, love and good wishes Lynne’
The Welcome Committee
First Meeting
The Welcome Committee met this week for the 1st time, and as a committee, we noted that
the members at WTC are what brings these renters (old and new) back to our community. If
you see someone new to you, please introduce yourself to the. If they have any questions direct them to the office for Welcome Committee info. We can then get them acquainted with
the activities etc. Also, as owners if you do rent, please let the front office know. The committee can get them involved if we have names and phone numbers. Speaking for the Welcome
Committee we are looking forward to welcoming these people to World Tennis Club.

Leadership Dinner
Margaret and Michael Strueber hosted an invitational reception and leadership dinner
on Monday, March 24, 2014. The purpose of the occasion was to recognize Gordon
Nicholson's contribution as President of the Master Board of Directors over the last
five years. As well, the contributions of Scott Calkins, Alex Popp and Gloria Spinella to the Master
Board were noted along with the retirement of
Jack Vodrey as Assistant Treasurer of the Master
Board and Dan Hingston as Chair of the Architectural Review Committee. The presidents of the
associations were also introduced along with all
of the new committee chairs. Expectations were
set for a new
and exciting future season at
WTC.

St. Patrick’S Day Gala
The mood was right, the full moon shone bright, the music was playing,
the food was plentiful, the drinks were flowing – St. Patrick himself
would have been proud to be Irish, and so would our Patric! Seventy
nine guests (all wanna-be Irish for one night!) ate, drank and danced the
night away to the music of Disco Dave. The meal included traditional
Irish dishes – Corned Beef and Cabbage, Irish Stew, Shepherd’s Pie,
Bangers and Mash, and…Irish Bread – perfectly prepared. The Social
Committee helpers included Pam O’Hero, Betsy O’Stanford, Louise
O’Kivlin, Elaine O’Fyffe and Barbara
O’Schmitz, who, along with the matchless
Matchpoint Café
staff gave all attendees a “grand”
time!

Show
Sony Bus Trip
The Sony trip on Tuesday March 25th was a great success! 46 people took a chance with the
weather not looking very promising and were rewarded with a day of great tennis matches.
Just as we arrived in Key Biscayne, the skies cleared and the sun came out. Everyone had a
great time watching the amazing tennis and finished off the day with a relaxing picnic dinner
in the park with the beach as a beautiful back drop. The happy bus-full returned back at WTC
looking forward to next years' road trip back to
the Sony.

Knitting Group
The knitting group met throughout the season
every Wednesday in different members
homes. We always had lots of fun while knitting and talking about news in the community,
personal plans and family matters while practicing and learning new knitting techniques.

Longshots
Well, our Fall 2013 and Winter 2014 men’s USTA seasons are over ! The
inaugural season for our newest team-the "Longshots" 3.5 level 65's men captained by Ron Baum & Bob Lietz finished 3rd in both leagues--each
time missing a 2nd place finish by one (1) court ! The better news is the
result for the Gordon Hughes captained 3.5 65's Winter team that WON the
tri-district league ! In a battle for a spot at Daytona Sectionals mid-April,
the Hughes team fell in a deciding-court Match-tiebreaker to the perennial
powerhouse Marco-YMCA team ! Congrats to both teams---that point out
the high quality of WTC tennis !

Col-Lee Tennis supports organized team tennis in Collier and Lee counties in
Southwest Florida. It is the goal to gather for great exercise and fun by playing
team tennis with other tennis clubs and communities in the area.
Both men and women from area clubs enter teams in various USTA skill levels
from 2.5-3.5. Teams are also grouped by age brackets from 50+, 60+ and 70+.
This is the second year that World Tennis Club has entered a team in the Age 70
plus men’s league. This league does not require an ability rating so players of
any ability level can play.
Our World Tennis Club team won the league last year and we won the league
this year with a 10 and 0 record. There are a total of six teams in our 70+
division.
Scoring for determining the league winner is done by the number of individual
doubles matches won not by the total match win. This makes every doubles
team count.
Our WTC team won 29 of the 30 matches played demonstrating the quality and
depth of our WTC player teams.
We will look forward to next year for another winning year.

Before you go away
for the Summer…
1)Turn off the water to your unit/house
(if you’re not sure how, contact the Management Office
and a staff member can come by and show you).
2)Unplug water heater or turn off breaker which powers the
water heater.
3)Test and/or replace batteries to all smoke detectors.
4) Hire Home watch services to check your property no less
than once a week while you are away (make sure they are
properly insured) and notify the office with their contact
information.
5)Stop by the Management Office and fill out a change of
address form.
6)Cancel any newspaper deliveries, etc.
7) Properly store patio furniture, lawn ornaments, wind
chimes or anything that may pose a threat in a wind
storm.
By following these few simple steps you can save yourself and perhaps your neighbors a great deal of time
and trouble in the event of a hurricane or water leak.

WTC CUP 2014
Last year’s Association Challenge became this year’s WTC CUP 2014 with not
only a new name but a totally different format that was developed by Bob Leitz
and Karl Zeisberger. They organized four teams designated by colors based on the
number of tennis playing members in each association. The Green team was captained by Sue Smylie and represented Lakeside. The Blue team was captained by
Bill Robertson and represented Corinthian Gardens and Woodlands. The Orange
team was captained by Jane and Tom Bazemore and represented Marbella and
Villa Vizcaya. The Pink team was captained by Bob Poindexter and represented
Bermuda Royale, Courtside and Alexandra.
The match play consisted of two semifinal matches with the winner of each going
to the finals and the runner-up going to the consolation round. The play in all of
the matches was close and exciting and well attended by the residents cheering on
their respective association team.
The Woodlands/Corinthian Gardens team defeated the Bermuda Royale/
Courtside/Alexandra team and moved on to the finals, to meet the Lakeside team
that defeated the Marbella/Villa Vizcaya team in the other semifinal. In the consolation round, the Bermuda Royale/Courtside/Alexandra team defeated the Marbella/Villa Vizcaya team to take third place. In the final round, the Corinthian Gardens/Woodlands team defeated the Lakeside team to receive the WTC Cup presented by our Tennis Director, Pavel Slozil. This cup is now on display in the Pro
Shop.
Thanks to Bob and Karl’s hard work restructuring the format, every player who
signed up to play in the event was able to play at least one match. All of the players and spectators enjoyed the event and are now talking about being ready for a
repeat next year.

More talent at the WTC than most people realized. Special thanks to Donna Kohn,
Lany Brisbin, Doug Hillmann, Gene Smith, Marilyn Trichon, Barbara Mack, Jack

World Tennis Club, Inc. (WTC) was first opened in 1983 and now consists of
a total of 361 units located throughout 82.6 acres. Of these, 360 units consist of 8 sub-associations, 5 of which are condominium associations and 3 of
which are homeowner associations, each with their own governing documents and Board of Directors. These 8 sub-associations comprise the
framework of the WTC Master Homeowners’ Association which also has its
own governing documents and Master Board of Directors of which there are
8 members, one to represent each sub-association.

WTC is also comprised of, and is responsible for, the common property
which includes 16 tennis courts, 2 pools, a Jacuzzi, café, pro shop, locker
rooms, meeting room, social room, common guest unit, an office building,
and approximately 50 acres of irrigation and landscaping. WTC is selfmanaged and currently provides management services to 7 of its 8 subassociations as well. WTC employs a full-time onsite Management team including office and maintenance staff. Also employed by WTC are a Tennis
Director, Tennis Pro, and a Pro Shop Administrator. The operation of the
café is contracted out to a Café Manager and his staff.
Owners, their guests and tenants can expect a comprehensive tennis program including free clinics, private lessons, various tournaments, several
club teams, round-robins, exhibitions, a tennis match-making service, etc.
There is also a plethora of social events including dinners, parties, book
clubs, pool exercise classes, Tai Chi classes, and the list goes on. Owners,
their guests and tenants should also expect excellent maintenance and
managerial services for those areas where an association has responsibility.
WTC is committed to the continued growth and success of the Master Association and its sub-associations. It serves this commitment by providing
quality services and by fostering an atmosphere that promotes pride
through volunteerism.
