Fátima
Home to one of the most important Catholic

three shepherd children in the nearby fields.
Today it is one of the most famous pilgrimage
sites in the world.
Coimbra
Although it served as the nation’s capital during
the High Middle Ages, it is better known for the
University of Coimbra. The university is one of
the oldest in Europe and the oldest academic
institution in the Portuguese-speaking world.
Learn the history of how the university was
founded in 1290 by King Dinis and its importance to higher education in Portugal today. A
highlight of the tour will be the included visit to
the amazing library of this famous university.
Guimarães
Settled in the 9th century, Guimarães is one of
the country’s most important historical cities
and had a major role in the formation of
Portugal. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
due to its extremely well-preserved city center.
During the included walking tour you’ll see the
Entre-os-Rios
The Benedictine Alpendurada Monastery was
founded before the Portuguese nationality and
was first recognized in 1123 by the mother of the
first king. During an included visit to the former
monastery, you’ll get a feel of what life was like
for the Monks. There’s also a special treat in store
as you enjoy a welcome drink and dinner in this
historic venue.
Régua
Best known for its fortified Port wines, the
Douro River Valley is one of the world’s oldest
defined wine regions – and one of today’s trendiest regions for a variety of wine styles. Sail
through the pretty, terraced landscape of this picturesque region as you make your way to Régua.
During an included excursion, visit the magnificent 18th-century Manor House depicted on
Mateus Rosé wine bottles. One of the best examples of baroque architecture in Portugal, the
mansion also features a 100-foot cedar tunnel
and stunning formal gardens.
Lamego
Surrounded by vineyards, Lamego is an attractive town, rich in history. It houses one of the
most important pilgrimage sites in Portugal – the
Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies. During the
included tour you will have the opportunity to
walk down the sanctuary’s iconic 686-step granite staircase decorated with the traditional
Portuguese blue and white ‘azulejos’ tiles.
Figueira Castelo Rodrigo
The municipality of Figueira Castelo Rodrigo is
known for its castle which is listed as a national
monument. After driving through the small village and the surrounding area which showcases
pine-wood forests and rolling hills, arrive at the
walled medieval village of Castelo Rodrigo. You’ll
visit the well-preserved Church of Our Lady of
Rocamador and have free time to wander through
the meandering streets. This unique village consists of ruins from historic times, including a castle, clock tower and jail, as well as a small population of inhabitants still living here today.

a lunch of deliciously authentic Spanish cuisine
and a Flamenco show in a local restaurant.
