A Message from your Manager …..
On behalf of the entire Waegwoltic team, I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all
of our members and to our new members an introduction to the myriad of fun and unique
programs we offer our diverse membership.
Many times we hear members say that the Waeg is a place they feel is their “cottage in the
city”. Often times we see members and their family here every day of the week and on some
days, more than once! The culture of the Waeg is such that we have Members with 80+
years of membership under their belt and families who join the Club generation after
generation - creating summer memories that will last a lifetime. We hope you enjoy every
aspect of your time here at the Club and are able to take full advantage of everything the
Waeg lifestyle has to offer.
As we enter into the 2015 season our genuine wish is to make the Waegwoltic Club the best
and most desired club of its type in the country. To that end, we have and will continue to
review every element of the club and its operations. To assist in that process we sincerely
extend you the opportunity to assist us in developing a blueprint for the future of the Club.
There are two great ways to assist, the first being thru committees. If you are interested in
being an active member of a department committee, please contact either me directly or
Lisa our member services director to put your name forward and get involved. The second
is feedback. We will be circulating mini surveys (3 to 5 questions) throughout the spring &
summer. Your real-time participation in these surveys will assist us with the ongoing
process of continually improving everything we do here at the Waeg.
Again; thank you for joining us for the 2015 season. We look forward to another year of
making the Waeg a regular part of your life and an active part of your family!
Best Regards,
David e Greaves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This 10-level program, for school aged children, will help swimmers develop all five swimming strokes

to be safe around water and increase their fitness/endurance through fun activities. Challenging distance
swims are a strong motivator though out all ten levels.
Swim Kids 1
Swim Kids 1 is an entry level program for children ready to move in shallow
water. This level provides an orientation to the water, the pool area and
introduces floats and glides with kicks. Prerequisite: minimum age of 5 years

YOUTH BEACH VOLLEYBALL:
RECREATIONAL PROGRAMMING
Beach Volleyball is one of our most popular rec programs at the Waeg. The
program is designed for a wide variety of participants and ranges from
introducing beginners to the sport to fine-tuning the volleyball techniques of more
advanced athletes. Our team of experienced, instructors is lead by Jane Delahunt
of the Dalhousie Tigers. Each member of our enthusiastic instructor team
strives to provide a productive and fun learning environment for new and
upcoming volleyball players.
Participants in the three recreational levels can look forward to energetic group
activities, explanations and demonstrations of fundamental skills, movement and
skill drills, and modified volleyball game-play.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
The Waeg beach volleyball program is offering the chance for experienced,
energetic athletes (14+) to pass on their passion for the game to the younger
generation of players.
During the recreational lessons all summer long, players have an
opportunity to assist the coaching staff in running the class. This is a
chance to gain volunteer hours, be a mentor to younger athletes and to
develop coaching skills under the influence of our experienced staff. No
coaching experience necessary!
For every 45-minute class, we will be accepting 1-3 volunteers to assist
in running drills and demonstrating skills along with other various
coaching tasks.
Interested? Email [email protected] with your name, your age,
and a brief summary of your volleyball experience. A schedule for the
volunteers will be determined based on availability. We’re looking forward
to hearing from you as soon as possible, but feel free to apply at any point
during the summer!
NEW MORNING VOLLEYBALL OFFERINGS
We’ve changed up our volleyball programming to accommodate morning lessons for those
members who are unable to make afternoon commitments. If you’ve wanted to get the kids
started in volleyball but haven’t been able to fit it in your schedule, now is your chance!
Spreading out our volleyball programming also means there is always a court available for
member free play.

Waegwoltic Sailing School
The Junior Sailing Program at the Waegwoltic Club is focused on providing
instruction in a fun, safe and positive environment. We strive to teach
practical theory and on-water skills while emphasizing camaraderie and a
passion for the sport. The Junior Sailing Program models itself on the CANSail
program that was developed by Sail Canada (formerly known as the Canadian
Yachting Association, CYA) and implemented in 2012. All of our instructors
and coaches have received training and certification based on Sail Canada’s
national standards. CANSail programming means lots of time on the water in
a safe, fun and active learning environment, with relatively less time spent in
a classroom. Sailors learn the skills and enter into fun and challenging
experiences suited to their age and stage of development. The programming is
designed to get - and keep - sailors excited about sailing for life!
Regattas & Parental Support
The racing and recreational streams both have different demands on the students
enrolled and their parental supports. These are important points to consider when
deciding what to sign up for. Recreational sailors do not attend any weekend
Regattas. This means that the children will simply have to be picked up and
dropped off at the Waeg each day. No additional transportation of children or
equipment is required. With the racing stream, sailors will be attending weekend
Regattas. The amount of involvement, and the distance of travel varies by program
and the Regatta schedule. Sailors will a l s o be training out of other locations
( Bedford, St. Margaret’s Bay, Chester, P.E.I, etc.) This is a necessary aspect of the
program, and one that is usually the highlight of the sailor’s summers. To make
this happen parental support and involvement is absolutely necessary.
For more information on the Waegwoltic Junior Sailing Program, please email
[email protected] or call the Main Office on 902 429 2822 ext.2

Basic Sailing (Recreation)
The Basic Sailing CANSail 1&2 program is the foundation class for children starting off
with little or no sailing experience. The focus of this class is to get out on the water, become
familiar with boats and sailing terms, be introduced to and acquire fundamental sailing
techniques, and of course have fun! All classes are taught under the close supervision of
three CANSail 1&2 instructors. Successful completion of this class (CANSail 1&2) will
allow sailors to join the Opti Race Team, or Advanced Sailing. The program uses Echos, a
double handed sloop boat that allows for interaction among sailors, and a fun learning
environment.
To accommodate busy summer schedules the Waeg offers both the classic one month
Basic Sailing program as well as a condensed two week version. Regardless of which
offering you take advantage of, sailors will learn everything they need to know to get out
on the water and have some fun! Sailors may wish to register for both condensed versions
of the program but they should expect to see an overlap in material. Please pay
careful attention to dates when registering for this program.

Race Teams:
The Waeg Race Teams introduce sailors to the world of competitive dinghy racing.
Classes are offered in the Opti, 420 and Laser boats and progress sailors from a
beginner racing level to high-caliber competitive teams. Teams will train and compete
in Regattas throughout Nova Scotia and the rest of the Maritimes. Teams are taught
by experienced coaches and will work closely with provincial and national teams.
Opti Race Team
The Optimist (Opti) CANSail 3&4 race team builds on the fundamental boat handling skills
that were acquired in CANSail 1&2. This class is excellent for sailors with an interest in
competitive racing. Although based out of the Waegwoltic, the team will train in Bedford,
St. Margaret’s Bay and Chester. This is a very exciting and intensive program, which makes

Lifestyle & Fitness Calendars
A Message from your Manager . . .
Attached you will find our adult lifestyle programming to be offered in 2015. These new
adult program offerings are just the beginning, we will continue to add additional fun,
interesting and informative programs to the schedule presented here and carry this
momentum into the fall and winter seasons. Current offerings range from “Roll Your Own
Sushi” presented by a local sushi chef to an ongoing speaker series and a workshop series
covering the “101 Things Every Adult Should Know”. The concept is simple: we have a
beautiful venue, a setting and membership like no other, we want to create a club
atmosphere where likeminded members can spend an afternoon or evening expanding their
horizons in a fun and comfortable environment. If you have any ideas you would like to
bring to the table regarding Adult Programming, feel free to contact me directly at
[email protected] or Katelyn Matheson our Program Manager at [email protected].
We can also both be reached at the Main Office on 902.429.2822.

NEW Restorative Yin Yoga
Yin is definitely in. Yin Yoga has the same goals and objectives as any other school of yoga;
however, it directs the stimulation normally created in the asana portion of the practice deeper than
the superficial or muscular tissues (which we are calling the yang tissues). Yin Yoga targets the
connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body that normally are
not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice. Suitable for almost all levels of
students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that
emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally
targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
Instructor: TBA
Dates: April 23rd – June 25th
Number of Weeks: 10
Day: Thursday
Time: 7:00pm – 8:00pm
Cost: $110
NEW Circuit Training
Circuit training is an excellent way to simultaneously improve mobility, strength, and stamina. The
circuit training workout is composed of two to six different circuits, each containing two or more
strength/cardio exercises that are completed one right after the other, with little or no rest in
between. The strength training works your muscles, and the cardio keeps your heart rate up.
Instructor: TBA
Dates: April 20th – June 26th
Number of Weeks: 10
Day: Mondays
Time: 7:15pm – 8:15pm
Cost: $110
YOUTH:
PROGRESSIVE PROGRAMMING
The Waegwoltic Club has more than 75 years of experience delivering the most innovative,
exciting, high quality junior programs in Atlantic Canada. In 2015 we are reinventing our
tennis programming to include more options for youth members looking to train and or
compete at the provincial or national level while providing a more fluent program for those
of our youth members progressing through our recreational stream. The new Waeg lesson
pathway is still based around the popular progressive tennis model which uses a
systematic progression of court sizes, balls and racquets to scale the game down to an
appropriate level for children ages 5-16 years old. The Waegwoltic Tennis Program is
focused on providing instruction in a fun and positive environment. The Recreational &
Competitive streams presented in our new tennis lesson pathway both have different
demands on the player enrolled and their parental supports. These are important points to
consider when deciding what to sign-up for.
If you have any questions about our new tennis lesson pathway, please do not hesitate to
contact us at the Main Office on 902.429.2822 ext.2 or email [email protected] .
REGISTRATION AID
!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please take a look at the following registration aid to determine where your child should be
registered this summer. If you are unable to identify the appropriate level based on the
following descriptions, please contact the Main Office before registration day. If your child
is advancing beyond the registered level at the start of the lessons, your child will be moved
to the appropriate level by one of our instructors.
Red Ball FUNdamentals 1: Recommended for children ages 5-6 with little to no tennis
experience. Who should register? Children who took LPT last year and are 5 years of age
and those players who were registered but did not complete First Serve. If your child has

Children who passed First Serve last summer or players who took but did not complete
Second Serve. Regardless of level completion, all 8 year olds should be registered in the
Orange Ball levels. If your child is 6 or 7 and has never taken tennis lessons, they should
still register for this class.
Orange Ball FUNdamentals: Recommended for children ages 8-9. Who should register? Children
who are between the ages of 8-9 who completed Second Serve in 2014 or were enrolled in Ace but
did not complete the level.
Green Ball FUNdamentals: Recommended for children ages 10-12 . Who should register? Children
between the ages of 10-12 who completed Ace in 2014 or were enrolled in Game, Set or Match but
did not complete the levels. If your child completed Match but is still under 13, please contact our
Head Tennis Pro for an assessment.
Green Ball FUNdamentals 2: Recommended for children ages 13-16. Who should register?
Children between the ages of 13-16 who registered for any of the following programs in
2014: Game, Set or Match. If your child is in this age range and has already passed
Match, they should speak with our Head Tennis Pro about High Performance options.
Development Teams: Recommended for children ages 8-10 who exhibit a strong desire to
play tennis competitively and who are ready to train & compete for Under 10 Tournaments.
Once a player enters the competitive stream, they should remain in that stream with the
ultimate goal of competing with our High Performance Team at the provincial and national
level.

Red Ball FUNdamentals 1 & 2 (Ages 5-7)
Both Red Ball stages are taught in the half-court format. Half Court tennis is the first stage
of our progressive tennis program at the Waeg. The cooperative skills taught at these levels
will lead to the development of the basic strokes and fundamentals of tennis. The Red Ball
program is broken into two stages: one for more experienced kids and the other for kids
who are just starting out. Please use the above registration aid to determine your child’s
placement. At any point during the lesson session our instructors may decide to move your
child from one level to the next. A 19”-21” racquet is recommended.

HIGH PERFORMANCE: Competitive Pathway
Young athletes participating in our high performance tennis offerings will receive high
quality tennis training from the top coaches in Atlantic Canada. On court coaching is only
one aspect of a young athlete’s education in our high performance programs. These
programs will educate youngsters on many aspects of training and competing. This
includes fitness, injury prevention, tactics, strategy and mental training. With our new
lesson pathway, promising athletes can be identified faster and nurtured more effectively.
To ensure each players success in the competitive stream at the Waeg, the decision to join
our high performance programs should be made in conjunction with a tennis instructor. To
inquire about any of our high performance programming, please contact Josh Chabinka at
[email protected] or call the Main Office on 902.429.2822 ext.2.
Orange & Green Ball Development Team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The objective of this new program is to identify talented and committed 8-10 year olds
ready to be prepared for Under 10 Tournament competition. Players will be introduced and
trained in the key components (psychological, physical, tactical, and technical) of the
Tennis Canada Long Term Athlete Development Plan. They will train using the ball that
best fits their level of development with the primary goal being to rally from full court. All
players will receive a Waeg T-shirt with their registration. The Development Team will led
by a senior coach.
In order to be considered for this program, players must be able to:

Engage consistently (both forehand & backhand) with a coach from the service line
using an orange ball.

Perform a basic overhand service motion with directional control.

Understand proper grips for all tennis strokes (groundstrokes, serve & volley).

Maintain good practice habits.
