Mayor’s Letter
Dear Friends,
As we celebrate our independence this
month, we also have the opportunity to
have our voices heard at our upcoming
municipal election. Residents interested
in serving their community can qualify as
candidates from July 3rd through the 17th
at City Hall. It is easy to sit back, observe
and comment on the running of our city.
However, it takes actual work and dedication to be a good steward of the people’s
Mayor Don Murphy
money and formulate a plan to carry us
into the future. If you aren’t planning to run for a city position, see if there
is a place on a community board or cause that is close to your heart, to
which you can serve. A strong community with active engaged residents
will to grow our city in all areas. We will continue to be a bright star in
Shelby County.
I know our city is on the right track for positive growth. We are working
with different businesses who would like to come to Pelham. We have plans
for sidewalks, bike lanes and a pedestrian bridge by the Civic Complex. I
have a vision for our future and have the determination to make it happen.
Our talks with the University of Montevallo are positive. Our cash position
is positive. Our future is positive.
Currently the engineering has started on HWY 105 (Bearden Rd) for
the sidewalks which will run from Pelham High School to Industrial Drive.
These sidewalks have been a need for our students’ safety and will add to
the long term plan of creating walking trails throughout our city.
Our library’s summer reading program is off to a great start with over 650
children signed up. The library has weekly programs to keep our children

active and engaged throughout the summer. I encourage you to stop by and
see what the library has to offer your family. I look forward to the future and
constructing a new state of the art library for our residents.
At the end of June, Company B 1/167th Infantry Battalion was called to
active duty for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. These brave
men and women are based out of the National Guard Armory on Yeager
Parkway. We were able to honor them and many other veterans at the Flag
Day Ceremony held at the Civic Complex. The Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge
1738 put together a moving tribute to our country, our flag and our veterans. It was an honor to attend and to see so many people pay tribute to our
service men and women and to uphold the values which our country and
flag represent. Thank you to everyone who participated in the program and
to those who came to celebrate with us.
This month the HealthSouth Rehabilitation project goes before the CON
Board. The placement of this facility in Pelham will bring jobs to our area
and provide a much needed service to the residents of Shelby County.
It is hard to believe the school year will start next month. Our schools
are holding registration this month; please contact them for the exact time
and dates. I am proud to say my administration has supported each of our
local schools with funding for academic needs. The result of our funding is
evident in our children every day.
I hope you enjoy the remainder of your summer. Please remember our
service men and women throughout the month. May God keep them and us
safe from harm’s way and continue to bless our community and country.
Kindest regards,
On the cover: Bill "Bubba" Bussey

Councilman’s Letter
Councilman’s
Letter
This month, hopefully, concerned citizens of Pelham will step up and
qualify to run for our City Council and Mayor positions. It is always an exciting time and I hope we will continue to appreciate our democratic process
and the opportunities that process provides us to make a difference in our
own lives and the lives of those around us. I have enjoyed serving the City
of Pelham as a City Council member these past four years, look forward to
an opportunity to be heard during the summer campaign months, and hope
for re-election on August 28 for another four years as a member of our City
Council.
During the past four years I have learned much about what I can and cannot do as a City Council member. I have learned the “limitations” of the legislative branch of our government and the reality that a council member has
no authority except when she or he is “on the clock” in a council meeting. I
have been excited to see good things happen when Pelham residents step
forward to voice concerns. Those efforts result in positive change through
the legislative process.
I appreciate the opportunity to have completed basic certification of the
Alabama League of Municipalities’ Certified Municipal Officials (CMO) training program. This was the result of attending conferences and trainings
provided by the League over the past four years. The League provides many
beneficial services/learning opportunities to members related to legal questions, financial issues, legislative support/updates, and various resources
that enhance our effectiveness as City Council members/Mayors.
I want to thank the City of Pelham for sponsoring me in the 2012 class of
Leadership Shelby County. This year-long program provided opportunities
for me to learn much about our county and, I believe, better equipped me to
be an advocate for our city in our area. Visit www.readysetreadal.org for a
look at our team project.
As you review the public records (agendas, minutes, etc.) of the work of
our council these past four years, you can get a good sense of who I am and
what I believe. I hope you can see the issues I have supported and opposed.
That information will be helpful in helping you decide if you want me serving
on your council another four years. Essentially, I have tried to streamline city
government expenses while maintaining essential city services; to nurture
high quality of life for residents of Pelham through support of education,
maintaining property value of our neighborhoods, and support for quality
cultural and recreational opportunities; to address infra-structure issues
(drainage, streets, blight); and to aggressively seek businesses for our city.
I hope you can see that I have had courage in confronting problems in an
attempt to find solutions.
This summer I will make every effort to connect with all our Pelham residents to ensure that you know who I am and what my platform for re-elec-
tion is. I believe that communication will provide you with the information
you need to vote for the best person to serve you on our council. You will
hear me talk about what I believe, what I support, and what I want to do.
You will not hear me say one negative word about any other candidate who
is running for election. I am running for a council position—not against
anyone.
Election results will communicate to me if my city wants me to continue
serving in my current capacity as city council member or if my city does not.
I certainly want to continue serving you and commit to graciously respond
to your wishes communicated August 28, 2012 as you cast your vote at the
Pelham Civic Complex. Please visit my campaign web site at www.teresanicholsforpelhamcitycouncil.com

Pelham racquet Club
Why bother dealing with a country club when the Pelham Racquet Club
(PRC) offers all the best of tennis without the snobbery? “We’re so lucky
to have a facility like the Pelham Racquet Club,” said Bill “Bubba” Bussey
of the famed radio duo. Bubba and his family have enjoyed being members
of the club for more than six years now, and though he could have chosen
anywhere in the Birmingham area to play, it was Pelham that won him
over. “I’ve been all over and this really is one of the nicest [facilities] in the
country. Players from all over the world can’t believe it’s a public facility.”
“Plus, I’ve met a lot of nice people at the club,” Bubba added. The fact
that it is a public facility means diversity of membership, which is good
for the club in many ways. Men, women and children from all walks of life
have found a place to play tennis in a relaxed but professional atmosphere.
“The variety of people is probably part of the success,” said Billy Crandall,
Director of Parks and Rec; and success is something the PRC has become
very familiar with.
“Over the years we’ve had a lot of successful teams,” said USTA Pro
Rusty Wilkes. Twelve junior team state champs have come from Rusty’s
Tennis Academy at the PRC in the last decade. “And several juniors are
currently playing in college on scholarships.” Last year, three adult teams
went all the way to Nationals, after winning both the state and sectional
tournaments. One of the teams took the National title. This year alone,
Pelham sent 15 teams to the state tournament. “That’s unheard of,” Billy
touted. One of those is the men’s level 3.5 team that Bubba plays on. They
took on 13 teams in the local league to qualify for state. “We played a Pelham team in the finals,” Bubba recalled. “You’ve got to have a good team
to get out of Pelham.” After getting out of Pelham and winning the state
tournament in Mobile, the champs return to the bay later this month to
compete in the sectional tournament. If all goes well, Bubba’s team could
be headed to the national tournament. “I’ve never been to Nationals,” he
said. “Hopefully we’ll get there. We gotta be good and lucky to get there,
but I’ve got high hopes.”
Tennis has become a big part of Bubba’s life and it’s something he’s glad
to share with the rest of his family. “It’s fun we can play a sport together,”
he pointed out. “There aren’t a lot of sports you can do together from a
family aspect.” Family tennis all started when Bubba’s wife, Betty, started
taking lessons at the racquet club and ended up going to Nationals. Bubba
jumped on board shortly after. “I started playing at age 42,” Bubba noted.
“I wish I’d started sooner, but I’m glad I started at all.” In the six or so
years since he started playing, the Bussey’s son Hunter, 14, and daughter

Katelyn, 12, have both gotten into the game too. This year, both Bubba
and Betty have their respective adult teams while Hunter and Katelyn play
together on the 14-year-old intermediates coed team that’s headed to the
state tournament this summer. Katelyn also played in the second annual
PRC Jr. Open, which has doubled in size from last year’s 30-something
players. “I like tennis because, well, it’s fun,” Katelyn said with a giggle.
“And it’s not that hard but it’s good exercise.”
After Bubba got heavily involved in the racquet club, it didn’t take him
long to begin sharing his love of tennis with the listeners of his program.
“We just had the fifth annual Rick & Bubba Super Summer Slam,” said Billy. In the show-sponsored tournament, more than 250 players from seven
states played this year. “It’s the biggest in the southeast and it brings a
nice boost to the local economy,” Bubba added. A couple of years ago, the
PRC also started a program called Bubba 101, where 80 to 100 beginners
were given a one-day crash course in tennis basics. “Bubba explained why
he got into tennis,” Billy said, “and then the pros went over basics with the
small groups.” After one afternoon participants not only had a foundational
knowledge of the game, but they even had their own brand new racquet,
thanks to Wilson’s donation to PRC. “Several people started playing after
that,” Billy noted.
“People that don’t know tennis sometimes don’t realize what they have
in Pelham,” Bubba explained. Being one of the many non-Pelham residents who comes to the city multiple times a week, he appreciates what
it means to the community. “There’s a lot of financial benefit because so
many people are coming in every night for league matches,” he said. “The
city’s done a great job. Hopefully they will continue to expand it further.”
That’s important, because as Billy likes to say, “If you don’t play tennis in
Pelham, you’re not playing tennis at all.”
The Little Drummer Boy
by Sarah Banasiewicz
Picture this: it is talent show day at Riverchase Middle School in late March
of 2006; it is right before lunch and the whole seventh and eighth grade classes are crammed into the gymnasium. I was nervous for it would be the first
time that I would dance in front of my classmates. Before I went on, this short,
blonde hair sixth grade boy accompanied the song “Have a Nice Day” by Bon
Jovi with his drum set. It was something to see and something to remember,
and it was not until seven years later that I found out that the drummer was
Carson Sumpter.
Others remember him in a similar fashion. Catherine Schmidt a 2012 graduate of Pelham High School said, “I remember Carson as a musician. Nothing was
more important [to him] than making music and making people smile." Matthew
Gregg, a 2011 graduate of Pelham High School, participated in marching band
with Carson for three years. Even though Gregg played the clarinet and Carson
was on the drumline, Gregg watched Carson march despite his condition in that
sweltering summer of 2010. “He was the strongest person I knew,” Gregg said
as he thought back to that season. Music was Carson’s love, he wanted to be
remembered for the musician he was and will always be.
Carson’s music is not the only thing that will be remembered by his peers.
Pelham High School senior Megan Harris recalled, “I remember he always
smiled”. I too remember seeing that infectious smile. Whenever I saw him,
Carson had a warm and gentle smile; the kind of smile that made you feel like
he was smiling just for you and that everything would turn out okay in the end.
Everyone has something to say about Carson’s impact on their lives or the
community. As posted earlier this past school year, the family of Carson Carson
is organizing a collection of memories to put into a book. If you have a special
memory of Carson, please send an email to [email protected].
This much I know about Carson, he lived the message of Bon Jovi’s song
“Have a Nice Day”. When the world was in his face, telling him that he was
dying, he told them that he was going to live. That is how I am going to remember Carson Sumpter.
Mark Seymour of “BE-AT Your Best” was the entertainer for the Pelham Library's
2012 Summer Reading Program Kick-Off event.
Summer Reading Program
The Pelham Library’s Summer Reading Program is off to a great start. They
kicked the summer off with a lively and entertaining Drum Concert by Mark
Seymour of Be-At Your Best. This program was part of the Library’s “Financial
Fun for the Very Young” campaign provided by Finra and ALA through the
Smart investing@your library Grant. Mr. Seymour encouraged the children
through song to save their money and watch it grow.
The Library also hosted a “Financial Fun for the Very Young Craft Time” at
which children decorated their own ceramic banks. “We hope that this reinforces the importance of saving that Mr. Seymour sang about at the kick-off,”
says Children’s Librarian Mary Campbell. “We are very lucky to have this grant.
Among other things, it has helped us reach out to even the youngest members
in the community, because it is never to early to teach fiscal responsibility.”

Don’t worry if you missed these programs. The library has many more programs this month for kids of all ages. There are storytimes, craft times, movies and many other programs before the Summer Reading Program ends on
July 24th with the “Dream Big Carnival.” Campbell says, “You especially won’t
want to miss Red String Wayang Theatre. They will be presenting wonderful
children’s stories through the ancient art of shadow puppetry on July 10th at
10:30 a.m.”
The library will also be providing an art class taught by Mrs. Amanda Mercer. Mrs. Mercer is offering this free class to children ages seven to fourteen

Final honor flight
Between summer celebrations of the American flag and independence, the
last of the living WWII vets able to make the trip were taken on Birmingham’s
Final Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial. Mary
Ann McKim, Chairman of the Veterans Committee at Pelham’s Cahaba Valley
Elks Lodge 1738, was honored to have the opportunity to serve as a guardian
for this final trip on June 21st.
Mary Ann explained that Honor Flight has taken nearly 1,000 WWII vets
from the Birmingham area to visit the memorial over the last five years. “This
last flight include[d] 62 WWII veterans, a small number of Korean veterans,
and both Korean and Vietnam Purple Heart veterans,” she said. Mary Ann has
spent much of her life working around veterans in government, military and
at the VA Hospital. She became an Elk nine years ago, and has spent the last
five of those leading the Veterans Committee. “Elks is an organization that is
distinctly American and is very patriotic. In 1946, the Order made a pledge
that ‘So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of
Elks will never forget them’,” she proclaimed. Because of their concern for
veterans, it made sense for the C.V. Elks to get involved in Birmingham Honor
Flights “by meeting, greeting and presenting flags to the returning vets.” Mary
Ann continued, “I am not sure how many returning flights we have met, but I
can tell you that anyone who has participated has been deeply touched by the
experience.”
The World War II Memorial was not completed until 2004, and by then, the
aged population of veterans had dwindled to just a small percentage of those
that fought in the war. Most never had an opportunity to see it, much less visit
it in person. Honor Flight holds a special place in Mary Ann’s heart because it
honors “The Greatest Generation” by giving them a chance to see the monument while they still can. “My father served in the Navy in WWII and though
he is no longer with us, to honor him and those who served in that war by
meeting those returning from the trip to see their Memorial, is my small way
of saying ‘Thanks for what you did for me and for this country’.”
“A tremendous debt of gratitude is due Pam Nichols and Amy McDonald,
who were instrumental in getting these flights started,” she added. Honor
Flight has provided many veterans, among the others who have made the trip,
an unforgettable opportunity of a lifetime.
Flag day
It has many names—“The Star-Spangled Banner”, “Old Glory”, “Stars and
Stripes”. But no matter what you choose to call the American Flag, its meaning never changes. Each year, Flag Day has been observed on June 14th, ever
since the “Red, White and Blue” was first adopted by the Second Continental

Congress in 1777. Even though Flag Day isn’t one of those holidays that everyone anticipates and plans for, it’s vital we remember to dedicate a day to
recognizing the ultimate symbol of American freedom.
To honor both the symbol itself and the veterans who fought for everything
it represents, the City of Pelham and the Cahaba Valley Elks Lodge join forces
each year to celebrate Flag Day. This year’s patriotic celebration was a moving
display of American pride featuring a variety of entertainers and presenters
from the community. After songs had been sung and flags had been waved,
attendees were invited to join Boy Scout Troop #5 in the parking lot to take part
in a proper flag retirement ceremony, an ending that seemed to leave everyone
with deep feelings of reverence and respect.
As the crowd filed out onto the sidewalk in front of the Civic Complex,
members of Christ Church United Methodist’s Troop #5 passed out stripes cut
from the retired flag to participants. “It is the custom of our troop, when we
have veterans present, to retire a ‘disassembled’ flag,” said troop leader Tony
Edwards. “We separate the stripes and union field of stars. This allows the
veterans to participate in the ceremony by taking parts of the flag to place in
the fire.” There are various ways to perform a flag retirement ceremony, and
all are considered to be correct. The only stipulation for proper flag retirement
can be found in Title 4 of the United States Code: “The flag, when it is in such
condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed
in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Unless you have been active in organizations like the Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts or American Legion, it’s likely you are part of the majority of people
who never knew there was a proper and respectful way to dispose of a flag
that is too tattered to be flown. “Most people don’t realize there is a public law
relating to the display and treatment of the Flag,” said Tony, “though some are
familiar with not letting it touch the ground.”
Once everyone was gathered quietly around the small fire pit, the scouts
told the crowd about the importance of the flag and the courage of the veterans who fought under it. One of the troop members served as the bugler,
playing Taps as participants were called to place each section of the former
flag into the fire. Veterans saluted, everyone watched with solemn respect until the pile of ash no longer resembled a flag. “Once the fire is completely out,

we retrieve the metal grommets,” Tony stated. “We save these and clean them
up. When we accumulate enough, we put two on a chain necklace and present
them to veterans as thanks for their sacrifices.”
Tony continued, noting the importance of sharing the Flag Day program
with the community. Through their participation, “the boys have learned that
the flag is something more than a symbol to many of the veterans that fought
under it,” he said. “I think that when the veterans are included in the retirement
ceremony, they realize that there is a younger generation that is being taught
respect for our nation’s symbols and heroes.”

VOTE to ELECT
Mildred
Lanier
Pelham City Council 2012
www.mildredlanier.com
Paid for by Friends to Elect Mildred Lanier City Councilor 2012
P.O. Box 1324 Pelham, Alabama 35124
ANSWERING THE CALL TO SERVE
When Mildred Lanier decided to buy a townhome in Pelham and make it her new home, she could not have known that her community of Hayesbury and
her new city would call upon her to serve as one of its leaders. Nor could she have known that residents would later ask her to be a candidate for City Council.
FAMILY LIFE: Will you share a little about yourself?
Lanier: I am originally from Birmingham and I am from a large family. My father, the late Rev. Moreland Lanier, and my mother Bereniece Lanier, now 83,
raised a big family. When my father who was a widower married my mother their union created a large blended family. It wasn’t easy but with their love of
God, commitment to our family, and so many other priceless values that our society still needs today, we made it. There was never any expectation that the
government or anyone else would do what was required of my parents to do.
After my father passed when I was about 10 years old and next to the last child, my mother had the huge responsibility to raise my 6 brothers, 3 sisters, and
me alone. There was no college fund or great inheritance. There was only my mother and her deep faith in God. However, the foundation of values we were
taught continue to guide my life: *Faith in God, *Hard Work, *Leadership, *Service, *Perseverance, and many others. My mother would often say don’t forget
to enjoy life and God’s beautiful world. I was often amazed that she could say that knowing that she never went on a vacation until we were all grown adults.
EDUCATION: Where did you go to college and what did you study?
Lanier: I have been truly blessed to have a wonderful education. I completed a Bachelor of Arts from Samford University and a Master of Music from the
University of Oklahoma. I also studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. I later completed a Master of Public and Private Management from Birmingham-Southern College and studied at the E. M. Lyon Business School in Lyon, France. While at BSC, I was a city intern in the Building
and Inspections Department in Bessemer City Hall. I also completed certification at UNA for Alabama Planning and Zoning Official and completed CEUs in
Comprehensive Planning, Community Planning in Alabama, Economic Development for Small Towns & Annexation, Basic Zoning and Subdivision Regulations, and Powers, Duties, and Responsibilities of Planning Commissions and Boards of Adjustment.
PROFESSION: What do you do for a living?
Lanier: I am a faculty member at Jefferson State where I have taught 8 years in the Business Department and currently in the Liberal Arts Department. I have
also taught at Birmingham-Southern College, Miles College, University of Oklahoma, and Indiana University. I am very blessed to be able to use all of my
degrees.
COLLEGE LEADERSHIP: Have you held leadership roles at Jefferson State?
Lanier: Yes I have. I have served on many hiring search committees for both faculty and staff positions and was elected to the Planning Committee for the
college. I served on the Program Review Board to evaluate current degree programs, and represented the college on the United Way Visiting Allocation Team
that evaluated designated Shelby County non-profit organizations, their budgets and program effectiveness, and made funding recommendations.
PELHAM LEADERSHIP: Since moving to Pelham what leadership roles have you held?
Lanier: I am president of the Hayesbury HOA, currently serving my third term. I have served on the Pelham Planning and Zoning Commission since 2010
and been part of reviewing and voting on development plans for the continuation of the next phase of Ballantrae. I am also president of the city-wide Pelham
HOA and drafted and presented a Blight Ordinance Proposal that is currently being reviewed by the City Council. I serve on the Shelby County Republican
Party Executive Committee and served on the Board for SafeHouse of Shelby County. I am also a member of the Pelham Library Guild. I am a member of
First Baptist Pelham and teach music in the School of Fine Arts.
YOUR ELECTION: What should voters know about your election?
Lanier: I want voters to know they can continue to trust me to serve them and Pelham with proven leadership as their City Councilor. I want voters to know I
will uphold effective city management and fiscal responsibility. I want voters to know I will work to promote economic development. And most importantly,
I want voters to know I am committed to working for Pelham’s future.

Hien and Lisa Tong
The Gaslight House
114 Indian Landing
8066 Helena Road
Four words to describe the Tong family’s lawn? It would have to be
color, color and more color. Though spring is typically the time of year
we think is ‘all abloom’, there are plenty of beautifully vibrant varieties
of flora that bloom all summer long. “I just changed over to summer
flowers,” Lisa said pointing to a beautiful fuchsia annual in a front bed.
“I don’t know their names. I buy it if it’s pretty and plant it.” The most
unique element in Lisa’s landscape design would have to be the persimmon trees, which will be ripe with sweet orange fruit in the fall. The one
in the front yard (and direct sun) has outgrown its older buddy in the
backyard three times over. Lisa recommends partial sun for persimmon
trees, so they grow at a manageable rate.
“Yard work is my hobby,” she said with a giggle. Over the years, Lisa
has found her own style of keeping an outstanding lawn without blowing an entire paycheck at the flower shop. For example, all of the bed
boundaries in the backyard, including the garden path and sitting area,
are basic housing bricks laid at a slant to rest on top of the one beside it.
“We used all the extra brick from when my sister built her house,” she
commented. It’s taken her many, many hours to complete the project,
but little by little she worked until she achieved her goal. Another one of
Lisa’s garden-on-a-budget secrets includes using cuttings from plants
to grow new ones. Purple Heart plants are bountiful in the Tong’s yard,
throughout the front and back beds and surrounding the mailbox. Lisa
swears she only bought one pot of them. “You break it off and stick in
the ground,” she said. Sounds easy enough.
Lisa operates on her own advice that she also gives to novice gardeners: “Enjoy doing it; otherwise, it’s not worth it.” By starting with
one small project at a time that she could enjoy, she’s turned her lawn
into peaceful botanical getaway; and just in time for them to host a
backyard family reunion on their award-winning lawn.
Unless you’ve ventured inside the large white gate guarding the
entrance to this month’s commercial beautification winner, you may
not have a full appreciation for its beauty. The Gaslight House off of
Highway 261 sits meekly behind its cover of trees, but when you
pull up to the venue you begin to see the results of the work that has
gone into keeping the property up. Flashy is not a term you could
use to describe the landscaping style, though the rose bushes are
vivid when in bloom. Instead, the look offers something more of an
understated elegance.
The Gaslight House is owned and operated by Pelham natives Rick
Hayes and Tony Johnson, though Tony has been running the show
for the past two years, making sure all the day-to-day operations go
off without a hitch. As they lead the grand tour of the facility, Rick
credits Sean Alcazar with all of the property’s lawn maintenance. “He
does great work,” he says.
Walking through the venue, Tony outlines the ins and outs of its
operations: “About fifty to sixty percent of our events are weddings
and receptions,” he mentions, “but we do all sorts of parties. We’ve
even hosted a few proms.” He points out the newest addition to the
building, completed four years ago as a plan B for those unfortunate
rainy wedding days. Typically, ceremonies are held in the beautiful
brick courtyard behind the house. Stepping into the courtyard you
instantly hear the tranquil sound of water flowing from a nearby waterfall. With white café-style lighting strung high above, it’s bound to
be breathtaking in the evening.
The Gaslight House hosts events all year long and offers in-house
catering by Tony’s mother, Dorothy Johnson. “She’s been cooking for us since we were little,” said Rick. Additionally, the venue
provides bartending and a complete state-of-the-art sound system
wired into every area of the house. “We are not the country club
or the Summit club, nor do we want to be,” Tony stated. “We want
people to have fun and leave their troubles at the door when they
come to The Gaslight House.” To see pricing or to book your event,
visit www.gaslighthouse.com or find Gaslight House on Facebook.

One word: Amazing!
I have two children who attend
Shepherd's Promise, 4K and 3K. They
have been there for 3 years now. The
staff and teachers are wonderful and the
facility is very clean. My children have
loved every teacher from room to room
and they are still with the majority of the
kids they started with. This shows what a
wonderful center it is. The curriculum is
awesome and all the extra's the center
provides: parents night out, summer/fall

children we care for is our
proprietary “Developmental
Assessment.” This tool was designed
to provide our parents with a regular
report of academic and developmental
progress. While it’s fun to celebrate
milestones, it’s critical to monitor and
encourage progress. Our assessment was
carefully crafted using our state’s,
“Alabama Early Learning Guidelines”, input
from local kindergarten teachers and
principals, and the best information
available across the US. We prepare and
provide assessments every other month so
that you are aware, every step of the way,
where your child is on the way to success
in life! When do we start our assessment
process? With the youngest of our infants!
It makes a difference.
