CAAR Raises Money for Veteran's Cause
Aside from the many services that CAAR provides to its members, one of CAAR's
interests is to enhance our community. Over the past seven years, primarily through
the fundraising efforts of its Community Service Committee, CAAR has donated over
$80,000 to various area causes including M.E.R.C.Y. Communities, Boys and Girls
Clubs of Central Illinois, Central Illinois Foodbank, Salvation Army, the Hoogland
Center for the Arts, Southwind Park, Helping Hands of Springfield, "Relay-for-Life",
American Red Cross and the Iles House Foundation, to name a few. This year, the
Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR) has chosen the Lincoln Honor
Flight as the recipient of its charitable fundraising activities for 2012.
As a member you might be wondering how can I help? You can participate in the
"Mile of Memories" campaign by sponsoring one or more miles at a cost of $10 each.
Each $10 donation will go towards 1 mile of the 804 mile trip from Springfield to our
nation's capital. Or, you could plan to attend our exciting fundraising event scheduled
for Saturday, April 28, 2012 titled "Honoring Our Veterans". This event will begin
with a dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a live USO Show and a dance featuring the
"Big Band" sounds of The Chatford Orchestra. All veterans in attendance will be

Celebrate Fair Housing
This April marks the 45th Anniversary of the 1968 Fair Housing Act and kicks off
a year long commitment to equal opportunity in housing in Illinois. The Fair
Housing Act prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national
origin, disability, or familial status of
those seeking housing. Fair housing laws
were established to provide and protect the
rights of homeowners through the
purchase, sale, rental, lease, financing,
insuring, and advertising of housing. The
Capital Area Association of
REALTORS® pledges to uphold the spirit
and letter of the law through programs,
activities, and training designed to
promote and further equal opportunity for
all. The Illinois Association of
REALTORS® has developed a public
website (www.thehousingsite.org) where
consumers can find state and federal laws,
regulations and other fair housing
resources in one place. For additional
information, resources, and ways you can
celebrate Fair Housing Month, visit

A member broker recently received an invoice directly from SentriLock for
repairing a lockbox due to a “Warranty Void” caused from water damage. Please
remember to mount lockboxes in a vertical orientation with the card slot facing
down. SentriLock designed the lockbox to drain water from the card slot at the
bottom of the lockbox, so the lockbox should be hanging vertically or close to
vertically with the card slot being the lowest point. Do not leave the lockbox lying
flat or almost flat unless it is in a location protected from the elements.
